hey LJ - this is where i used to do Doctor Who stuff, so i thought... if i'm going to write a post about my thoughts on doctor who (which i watched late, so with a very particular spoilerific lens) i might as well cross post them here.

I will cut for spoilers (thanks for nothing Tumblr!) - although I assume everyone knows, like I knew!

SPOILERS )
aralias: (blogging at the end of the universe)

List of Completed Fics this year:

Total: 7 fics, 142k words - making it one of my most prolific years ever! (even though i wrote about 30k of ‘keep calm’ last year, which would take it down to a more reasonable level).

i answer some question about them below the cut…

(rich text is the worst on DW. you think it will save you time, but it really doesn't. i'm sorry. this is an ugly post and it's rich text's fault. i mean, my fault - for using rich text.)

hello friends! happy new year etc etc (this year, i'm celebrating it by doing literally nothing. not leaving the house. it's what i've always wanted).

i've posted very little on DW/LJ this year, but i do usually still read my f-list (although i've noticed that now i'm on a different theme, the f-list has a limit to the number of entries i can read using it. who knows why - the commenting in line is quite nice though. that's new to green theme). the trend will probably continue into 2020. i've fallen to tumblr.

i made a quick, unsuccessful attempt to try and demonstrate DW's amazing features to a fandom that had exclusively used tumblr, by trying to bring the anon meme here. it really didn't work. i moved the meme back to tumblr - and it is still hard to get people who've never done this sort of thing before to use it but at least people are submitting some prompts and stuff. (maybe everyone just wants to hang onto their ideas. i can understand that).

anyway - tumblr, eh? it gets us all. with its terrible functionality, and endless scroll. please think of me sometimes.

...

on that note, i thought i'd post my end-of-year meme responses here. cross-post, i guess, as i'll put them onto tumblr too, where they will be instantly eaten by the machine - tumblr has a culture of the 'ask meme' rather than the 'answer all the questions' meme. i can only assume it's because a) that means smaller bites of content and b) it means that you encourage at least one person to definitely see your content. and if you post it in smaller bites, it's more likely that some people will see ... some of it.

it blew my mind the other day when i realised that we used to tag people in LJ land to do stuff, but they had to be reading your blog in the first place to see it - so it truly was a badge of recognition. with tumblr, i'm guessing the trend started as a way of saying - hey, see. i posted - come check it out! as well as being a badge of recognition.

but anyway, i like answering all the questions.

so here we go.

end of year in fandom meme )
aralias: (talking to yourself)
i dont know if anyone else noticed this (i'm guessing they didn't), but whenever i went to my DW without being logged into LJ, it would show a big '18+' sign where my doctor/rose picture used to be...

i'm guessing it's because i told LJ that my journal was 18+ in case the russians came for me.

anyway - the result is that i changed my theme on DW to a pretty generic one, which i'd been thinking about doing anyway because my old theme wasn't mobile friendly. (DW has some very ugly generic themes. all you need to do is have boxes with content in them and NOT HORRIBLE colour combos and we can't even do that...) i'll probably change the header image at some point.

for posterity's sake, i'm keeping my LJ the same though. so there we go.

that's a thing that happened. that affected nobody else ;)
aralias: (blake neck)
just had a conversation and wrote an email to someone else about 'blake's 7' zines. AND THEN i wrote to the iowa zine library to see whether they wanted to pay for shipping for the big box of zine masters i meant to take there years ago because i still haven't gone back to america.

then i took photographs of a zine and sent them to one of those two people.

it's like no time at all has passed :D

this has been a drive by post to say hi to everyone who loves blake's 7 on my f-list, which i assume is practically all of you.

this is not the ten favourite fictional characters meme.

[profile] agapi42 tagged me on tumblr in this about a week ago, and i’ve been thinking about it for a while, even though it’s not a deep question! it should be fine. i can answer it!!

but firstly i didn’t want to because i was pretty sure that everyone i put on the list would be a dude (i’m the problem. i need to be dealt with), and also i was like - should i put simon and baz on here or what?

there’s an obvious answer, but i was thinking... maybe not, even though that’s really weird, because they’re the characters i want to write about most right now AND i love them both (i’m having a classic reaction to being in a fandom where most people have a favourite - and i feel i’m increasingly leaning towards simon being my fav of the two even though i was initially most attracted to baz) but are they the characters of my heart?? i mean - maybe. but they only have one book... so far, and many of my other favs have hours and hours of television.

so - two reasons why i didn’t want to draw up an actual list. (one - embarrassment, two - what about my ship?? because they are definitely my ship)

but one thing i did think as i was reflecting (yes, i took this too seriously) is that probably the top of the list is ...

arthur is probably my ultimate fav (here depicted by richard harris in ‘camelot’, which is the best filmed arthur IMO, based as is it is based on the best arthur of ‘once and future king fame’).

lots of thoughts about arthur )

new fandoms

aralias: (simon snow)
lots of people have multiple fandoms at the same point - for me, never. i am pretty exclusively mono-fannish. there was a short period of time where i hadn't written for a while and then suddenly i wrote my first few blake fics, and also my first hornblower fics - so maybe that counts, but then i basically just dropped right out of hornblower... as you may have noticed.

(i mean, there was a lot more fan material in blake)

in general this is because i can like something a LOT and not really want to write or read fic about it (some examples from recent years - holmes, due south, life on mars, i'm loving discworld at the moment), so i can like more than one thing at once, hurrah, not just stuck in an eternal pit of only ever liking one thing - but no urge to write fic for it because in some cases, it works so well that i don't need to. or in others, i just don't have a ship because fandom is definitely about the ship energy for me, even when i write gen. (sad but true)

in most cases fandoms haven't even overlapped - i've been out of one for a long time, and sort of ambling aimlessly around thinking, maybe fandom isn't for me anymore and i'll never write again, and then - oh, no, ok - i might write a thing for this. that's what normally happens. it's definitely what happened with 'carry on'. i hadn't written anything for blake for a long time.

anyway - this is just a lead in to say... although i feel far too old and don't want to use discord, i'm pretty happy to have 'carry on' as my fandom right now. i've written quite a few words, just finished another fic that i wrote QUICKLY (for me), which means that maybe my brain is shifting into proper fandom gear. and we're about to get a second book. i don't want to leave...

... so i am resisting the call of two potential new fandoms, which i really was not expecting to have to do.

more thoughts about this, and a very small amount about the canons - which are yuri!!! on ice, and miraculous ladybug )

this isn't even a first-world problem. it's off the scale. but yeah - i thought i'd warn you.
aralias: (hexagons)
hello friends!

i'm still finding it difficult to write stuff into this forum - i think because i've spread myself too thinly across twitter and tumblr (and i even just set up a medium so i could write some semi interesting things... maybe... about work) and now i have no blog that actually has ... you know, content.

anyway - here's what i got for you today. the first-lines meme was going around on tumblr, so of course i did it because i love that sort of meme.

i'm going to link you to it here rather than copying it out. i had to go back to christmas 2016 to get to 10... but i've almost finished my second fic of the year, and it's only july. so that feels quite good. although i can't do the 10 first lines meme again for a while. not for a few years, anyway.

the point of this post:

[personal profile] x_los has been posted some of her old stuff that she never posted - which prompted me to look into my own folders and see whether there was anything that i'd never posted, even though i was pretty sure that there wasn't, because i don't have many ideas for writing things - for me this is not a cheap commodity that i would just waste. if i have an idea i will damn well write it, and if i've written it, i will post it.

anyway - to my surprise there actually WERE a few things that i hadn't finished IN ADDITION to the ones i posted the last time (2015) i flushed out out my unfinished fics. there's a 'carry on' thing as well, but i think i might write the rest of that, so it's not here.

here's what you've got:

1. one thing i'd started to write for a b7 secret santa right at the very end of my productive time in b7 fandom, which i had completely forgotten about. i remember ... that i wrote it... now ... but i have left myself no notes - and so i have absolutely no idea how it was going to end (or indeed what the middle was), but i don't think anyone has ever seen it - so i've pasted it for you below.

2. i started writing a blake!clone/travis thing, which i feel i should have started about a year before i did because then i might have finished it then, and i think the fandom NEEDS this pairing. alas. there is absolutely no salacious material in either.

erin's finishing hers and re-drafting them when she posts them. that's not for me. if i'd finished them, i would have posted them. this is just for your vague interest.

also, bonus 3. - i've also discovered i've given about 50% of all of my documents different names to the name the fic eventually had, which is now the only name i can remember. so i'm looking at this list - that made perfect sense to me at the time and going... 'wtf even is all this?' so i've pasted in all the doc names as well, in case you like a semi interesting challenge ;) i've shuffled the doc names in alphabetical order to make it harder. and where it's hard - it is hard.

enjoy, i guess?

paul darrow

Jun. 4th, 2019 09:35 pm
aralias: (avon smirk)
gareth's death a few years ago was a surprise and i was fairly devastated. in contrast, i feel like i've bene expecting to hear this news about paul darrow for a while. we all knew he wasn't well - and he survived some really terrible stuff over the past few years, and somehow hung on to make lots of silly growly voiced avon audios.

i liked him a lot, as a personality and as an actor. someone on tumblr posted this page he wrote in his autobiography about his likely obituaries:

it reminded me how funny he was, and how much i loved that book (and how much i hated it when he wrote about avon rather than himself!).

we talk about paul darrow pretty often in my house, even now i'm not a regular in the fandom. erin's been listening to 'dombey and son' - the adaptation of which stars paul darrow as an evil avon, who is ultimately still in it for love. and we often talk about how most dickens books have a character who is basically a paul darrow role. (alas that the beeb didn't do 'a tale of two cities' - we could have had TWO paul darrows). i'm currently reading (re-reading?) all the sam vimes books - and i was talking only this week about how once paul darrow was very mis-cast in a stage production of 'guards! guards!' (vetanari? perhaps. vimes, no.)

and of course we talk about how much our cat loved him. (no one is sure sasa understands what has happened, but we are there for him, if he does.)

so - i'm not surprised, and i'm not as sad as i was - but i am sad. i sort of hoped that we would get a blake's 7: the next generation that chris boucher would write and paul darrow would remember how to do the voice and play avon, who was pretending to be blake. and it seems like only yesterday that he won celebrity pointless with michael keating. apparently it was more than two years ago that i saw him at the surpreme cat show in birmingham.

alas indeed.

i will miss him.

hey hey - here's some content! it's that BBC archives content i told you i'd post once it came out in 'the way forward'. (i've also told everyone that this is my last year. i'm casting around for good content - next time, i'm pretty sure i'm going to write about one of my favourite tropes - blake-as-president. but then what?)

because there's more space on the internet for pictures... this is a slightly better version than the one published in the APA. well - it has more pictures. (and there are even more on Imgur.)

the other day i got an email telling me my paid dreamwidth account was about to expire. i only use it (i think) for the icons - and i never use my icons. i've barely been using my dreamwidht. AND YET I RENEWED.

not ready to let go yet.

here's some stuff -

1. i've almost finished that fic i told you all about in february...

Keep Calm (64571 words) by aralias
Chapters: 5/6
Fandom: Carry On Series - Rainbow Rowell
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Tyrannus Basilton "Baz" Pitch/Simon Snow
Characters: Simon Snow, Tyrannus Basilton "Baz" Pitch, Penelope Bunce, The Mage (Simon Snow), Ebeneza "Ebb" Petty
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Role Reversal, Watford Eighth Year, Baz is a good teacher, Penny and Baz’s not-that-unlikely friendship, Bad Parenting, Teaching, Slow Burn
Summary:

The kidnapping attempt fails, but it’s not the Mage’s only scheme. Eighth year begins. Tyrannus Basilton Pitch returns for the start of term – and finds his roommate missing.

clearly it took me a lot longer than i thought. (the sudden appearance of a sixth chapter is just an epilogue. i'm basically done)

2. the second series of she-ra dropped this week. it was only 3.5 hours so obviously i forced erin to watch it with me friday/saturday. it was GREAT. if you like stuff like steven universe, you should watch it. the theme tune is great. there is a flying, talking horse. in short - it's great.

3. i went to the bbc written archives with erin on friday (before we watched she-ra). must say, it's not as good as the iowa zine library, so if you can only go to one of them, choose iowa. i'm going to write about it in more detail for 'the way back' (due on the 1st - probably should get cracking), so will post about it more then. what i learned is that bbc keep a lot of stuff that interests ... auditors. what to know how much gareth thomas spent on travel and substance while he was filming 'duel'? no problem. that information is available.

4. is there a four? i don't know. i saw my mother today, and she always asks me what i'm doing with myself. (she's always doing something worth talking about; i'm usually not).

YES. there is a four. i've remembered what it is. ex-horrible histories stars/yonderlandians, are doing a new show on the beeb. it's called 'ghosts'. it's good! but, like she-ra, short.

i'm also watching 'endeavour' because it has roger allam in it. it's ok - i'm happy to watch it. it's very much not short. it does have roger allam in it.

that' what i'm doing. i'm watching tv.
aralias: (iroh is happy)
just realised my last post is about CHRISTMAS. i didn't even come back to say i'd written a thing, although i have. here it is:

i'm alive and stuff.

mostly trying to write the rest of this, because i am very slow at writing. yesterday we went to look after a dog, as well. it's owned by someone i know, not someone the internet hooked me up with so i can have a dog friend. i'm still terrible at walking a dog - i thought it was just a thing that happened, but i guess there's a skill to it and i don't have it.

we're watching 'the dragon prince' on netflix, which is worth doing if you like avatar. also - it is short. so even if you don't like it (and it's definitely not as good as avatar, although better than korra probably) you can watch both seasons in about a day. which is basically what we've done.

i also really liked 'a series of unfortunate events' although i might have watched that before christmas, i can't remember. very pleasing.

i've been reading more YA fantasy, and very much recommend 'the invisible library' (genevieve cogman), also 'the wicked king' (holly black). both great. 'wayward son' is out in september.

still reading my f-list. hope all is well :)
aralias: (darcy loves christmas)
in case you're at a loose end and wondering what to watch this christmas. here are some of my favourites...

christmas specials i've re-watched this week:
miranda, series 2 - the perfect christmas
yonderland, series 3 - it's the thought that counts
the adventures of sherlock holmes - the blue carbunkle
due south series 1 - the gift of the wheelman
doctor who series 2 - the christmas invasion

christmas specials i haven't re-watched:
all creatures great and small, series 1 - merry gentlemen
blake's 7, series 4 - blake
aralias: (darcy loves christmas)
thank you for the GP day wishes! i am now almost as old as blake's clone says he is. (5 minutes)

work continues to be busy, and so i'm spending a lot of time when i'm at home asleep. also - i went to europe. twice! (montpelliar and vienna), giving my current work people the idea that i am an international jet setter. even though i told them i wasn't. try not to think about what the civil service is doing about brexit.

i thought i'd answer [community profile] thefridayfive since i've seen it on my f-list twice and it's a good prompt to just post something

1. Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas – which one do you use?
i don't think that people in the UK say 'happy holidays' very much, if ever. i tend to say 'happy christmas', which a lot of people tell me is wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Do you own an ugly Christmas sweater?
between us, erin and i own a lot of christmas jumpers. no truly awful ones, though. and none that light up. which is clearly a mistake for future years.

3. Do you celebrate the Winter Solstice?
no. this year i barely celebrated my birthday or GP day, either.

4. Now that you are ‘in the know,’ what would you leave out for St. Nick on the 24th?
i don't think my cats believe in father christmas, so this isn't an issue (yet). while were in vienna, we saw loads of krampus merch - which i had to get erin to explain to me. (why are there chocolate devils and popes everywhere?)

5. Tired of the snow and icky weather yet? For those fortunate folks in the other hemisphere, are you tired of the humidity and hot weather?
no snow, alas. lots of rain - i'm tired of the rain. but our heating is quite good, so don't mind the cold too much.

happy holidays, y'all!
aralias: (jacobi!master lurks in the tardis)
kollega has been translating doctor who fic into russian for a few years. and inspired, i'm sure, by the fact that a lot of mine is quite short, and that i'm happy for anyone to do whatever they want with any of it, she's done quite a lot of mine now.

most recently - she's translated 'wonderwall' and 'masterplan'.

i'm super impressed! and pleased.

and, as always, i've gone to the stories, and skimmed to see what google translate makes of them. always ochen' zabavno.

there's a hilarious one a the end of 'wonderwall' in which the original line is “Sometimes I thought you’d never ask.” which is a GOOD ending, because the whole fic is about asking for stuff. it's also about sex - but it's not OBVIOUSLY about it. whereas the russian translation pushed through google translate has it as “Sometimes it seemed to me that you would never ask for it.”

'masterplan' meanwhile has a great summary, which reads - at the request of the Doctor, the Master ends the War of Time, brews the Doctor a sea of tea

and, in another a cracking tea related google fail, “But it’s - stewing,” the Doctor moans. becomes “But he ... is on fire,” the Doctor groans. which is ALSO hilarious, because this is an AU that starts with the master burning to death.

if you can read russian, i obviously recommend reading them for real.

incidentally, i am watching new who. after not watching much capaldi at all. it is... ok. pretty much what i'd expect from chris chibnell. the most recent episode was obviously the best, but also very upsetting. although it could have been even MORE upsetting. i'm not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing. anyway - happy to keep watching, whatever next week's is. i like that with all the new writers (not malorie blackman, but the others) i have literally no preconcieved ideas about most of the rest of the episodes. will they be good or bad? let's find out.

Writing Roj Blake )
aralias: (watson clue)
despite not being aware of any current events, even and up to new books coming out, i somehow managed to be reminded enough times that JKR had published a new book: lethal white. and therefore got it on day one.

i finished reading it a few days ago. and it was ... ok?

some more thoughts - spoilers )

ON A SIMILAR NOTE -

i also read 'house of silk', which has been out for ages, but i saw it in my friend's house and i thought - i love sherlock holmes (for so i do), and i think horowitz is probably quite a good writer. i thought about waiting for her to finish it and then borrowing it, or indeed following her suggestion and just finding it in a charity shop as she had done, but instead i just got it on my kindle, knowing i would forget about it.

at a high level it is... ok? (another astonishingly insightful review! yes, indeed.) the watson voice, which is the thing i was most worried about, was very good, i thought. and, as is only right and proper for a holmes book, we spent a lot of time with him. watson did some good investigation, but ultimatley was way off base, much as i was.

one of the two really bad things about this book is identified by horowtiz himself in the 'how i wrote this book' bit at the end - he identifies that the publishers wanted him to write about 100k so it would look like you were getting good value. and that none of the actual holmes books were that long. some more spoilers )
aralias: (kitty!)
glad that meme's done. now i can go back to not writing things very regularly!

life has been quite busy, though, i guess. biggest news is that we went back to the same cat shelter where we first met anton, and adopted two new cats. this was a mix between lovely (all cats are great! i want to adopt all the cats!) and v sad. we obviously didn't intend to adopt two cats - we already had one cat (sasa), and were looking to get back up to two cats, but the cats we liked the most came as a pair, who loved each other too much to be separated <3

so now we have three cats.

erin's posted lots of pictures and videos of them here and here (among others) but she doesn't have my favourite one (even if it includes a litter box), which is this.

the girl is called makkuro because she looks like a soot gremlin (and we already had a cat called sasa, so we weren't going to call another cat susu) and the boy is called harry sullivan (or hairy sullivan) because he is a gentleman, likely to get his foot stuck in a giant clam, and less interested in adventure than his small female friend.

sasa would prefer to be an only cat still, but it's going mostly ok. he is 6 years older than either of the new arrivals, who (as a collective) we call 'the little cats'.

the little cats (particularly maku) love sasa and want to be his friend, which is absolutely the worst thing they could do if they want to be accepted by him. he just wants to be left alone, and they just want to be with him - he could be their friend! like they are friends with each other!

more on this story as it plays out.

in other news - new work is still hard, but at least now i know a lot more - and i have some things that i'm doing that will make it better. in about a years time, i think it could be genuinely good. but right now - very hard. when people ask i sometimes tell them that i'm not enjoying it, which is true. but it doesn't mean i'm unhappy i took the job. i think it was absolutely the right thing to do. i think i can make a real difference and make it into a job i enjoy - it just is never going to be as fun as a job where i just exclusively hung around with nice people and didn't do that much. but i felt that was a bit of a waste and so it was.

also - i've worked out what my big bang is going to be! (unless i drop out before february, but right now i know). it's probably influenced by me reading a lot of fics where simon and baz hang out in the summer holidays before the book starts, and simon then rescuing baz with the help of baz's wacky tory family (i've got recs if you're interested). but it's NOT that. i don't think other people have written anything like this.

technically the rules of the big bang say i shouldn't say too much about what i'm writing before... february. (or at the earliest, post artist sign-ups, which is like november). but a) no one from the big bang is here, right? b) i'm only saying what it ISN'T.

it's also not my idea where the mage isn't actively evil - he's just dumbledore, the humdrum is a real threat, and baz has to help simon ANYWAY even though it doesn't conveniently align with his political views to do so. the entire fandom fucking hates the mage, though, so i didn't think any artists would want to illustrate this work (this is my genuine thought proceess), or in the unlikely event that they DID, i didn't want to drag them down with me. i should probably still write that, though at some point, if i keep writing 'carry on' stuff.

i also don't have a plot - just a political agenda. whereas i DO have a plot for my other fic.

also, three cats

big bangs

Sep. 2nd, 2018 08:14 pm
aralias: (simon snow)
i've been umming and ahh-ing about singing up for the 'carry on' big bang for a few days now. because - a few things.

firstly - i don't know what to write. the only other time i've ever signed up for a big bang i wrote about a thousand words and then stopped. because i had no story at all. i've never finished that story.

but most importantly - it's due for posting in FEBRUARY. i write slow, but not that slow. the point of signing up for fests is (for me) to make you write. february is the kind of date where i will basically forget about it until the mods check in on me in the still very distant future. it's not like it's a big bang with a massive word limit either - the fic has to be longer than four thousand words. not forty thousand. four.

'carry on' isn't even the kind of fandom where there's almost exclusively short works. it has around 1,500 works over 1,000 words in a fandom of 2,200 works on AO3 (presumably it WONT qualify for yuletide this year, which is also a shame as i was hoping to not to sign up, but maybe to freeload off the prompts). and around 450 works that are over the big bang limit of 4,000 words.

what am i going to be doing until february? i guess i could just finish the fic i've started already (already about one thousand words of NOTHING. nothing has happened thus far. it's all just set up, by which i mean baz feeling sorry for himself), but i was hoping to post it before february, so that i would have written more than one thing for this fandom. plus - it feels like a minor work. which is kind of the point of it. i feel like i should come up with something that is at least as important to the way i think about 'carry on' as 'the mage's heir' was... which is a shame, because i basically already wrote down all my thoughts into that fic.

interestingly - before you all switch off - my pretentious ranting aside, big bang DIDN'T originally mean a fest about really long fics. did you know that? i didn't know it until today.

fanlore tells me that the name was originally given to a drarry fest where the 'big bang' was all to do with their combustive relationship, rather than a length requirement of the fic being big. and it was all about the relationship between the artist and the fic writer - multiple artists per fic, and there had to be a long month deadline for the artist to work on the art.

that said, the word count was fifty thousand words.

i dont know if i have fifty thousand words in me though, so i guess i'm happy that the word count is only four thousand.

and after everything, i did sign up. because i thought - i want to be part of this fandom, i guess, and i'm doing a bad job of it thus far.

... now to think of an idea ...
aralias: (ianto reads in torchwood)
let's finish this meme, then! let's blitz through. i don't need to over think it. it's saturday morning. time to fake a sense of accomplishment. (does anyone know of any other good memes going round? preferably one that won't take me about 4 months to do.)

27. Want to be one of the characters.

so far i've thought of two answers to this. one is basic af, becuase the answer is harry potter (you'll see a theme emerging in this post, which is why i eventually just grouped them all together and say, hang it).

my other answer looks at the question from a different angle and is like - if i were a character in a book, would i be the actual character, or would i be me? i think i'd find either of these states really awkward. i already don't like interacting with actors-in-character, or even famous actors in signing queues etc, because i don't know what to say to someone who isn't real, but if they WERE real then we'd have the problem that i knew the plot, or i knew they had loads of friends who weren't me and what was i trying to do being friends with them or whatever. (this is the same problem with actors or whatever. there's so much pressure to say something so amazing that they will want to be friends with you, even though that's not a thing). anyway - i guess in a way that's what's good about naming potter because in a way that's just 'the world', rather than being a character.

it is a basic, ill-thought through answer though.

28. Bought at my fave independent bookshop.

i don't have a favourite independent bookshop. i'm the reason that bookshops are going under. i do support my local boardgame cafe, though. a bit. and independent coffee shops.

29. The one I have reread most often.

there's a possibility the answer to this isn't one of the early harry potter books, or 'carry on', but it's a pretty slim possibility. potter regularly over the years, including audio books, 'carry on' repeatedly in a very short space of time because there's not much canon to go around. so if you want to study how the canon feels, you gotta re-read.

maybe some tamora pierce might challenge, or david gemmell's 'legend', but probably not. it's probably philospher's stone.

30. Would save if my house burned down.

i probably wouldn't save any books if my house burned down. i'd be sort of sad that my copies of (wait for it) philospher's stone and prison of azkaban were gone, because i've not only re-read those books a lot, but i read those particular physical objects a lot and they're so tied to what was important to me ten years ago. but they are replaceable.

i really hope my house doesn't burn down, though - let's be clear about that. even if it would mean we didn't have to deal with the bathroom leak any more. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OK DONE!
