Another Patient Flushed Money Down the Toilet on Mexican Dental Care Henrius, really appreciate a professional giving us all this information.I live in the geographic center of So California and the number of dental offices here is amazing. It’s like a dentist on every block.I wonder, with this much competition, how they could all be charging high rates and have enough customers.

What Are Some Easy Ways to Save Money Each Month? When you come upon non-necessities while going through your current expenses, ask yourself if you really need it. And in the future, before buying something that’s not a necessity, ask it again – do I really need it? It’s good to splurge once in a while but make sure it’s only occasionally and not a habit.

Clark on Car Batteries Home Depot has car batteries well-priced, and I’ve usually found EXIDE batteries cheaper than at other places mentioned. What Are Some Easy Ways to Save Money Each Month? Thanks for the thoughtful advice I really appreciate it. I currently don’t have major debt, but I do have a few monthly expenses like utilities, groceries, and subscriptions that seem to add up quickly. I haven’t been tracking every small expense, so that’s something I’ll definitely start doing.I also like the idea of paying myself first. I think setting up automatic savings at the start of the month could really help me stay consistent. I’ll also review my subscriptions and see what I can cut or reduce. Thanks again for the helpful suggestions if anyone else has small habits that made a big difference, I’d love to hear them too!

Ambulance insurance If Clark reads this board he will let us know about the “ambulance and helicopter emergency care insurance”. I know someone who went to a hospital in the helicopter, and he is paying for it 20 years later. It is something you do not have a choice to utilize. The seminar said a trip can cost 50,000 to 75,000, factorint in distances, etc.

Kevin Hunter The Homework Guy: "WHY 2–3 YEAR OLD CARS ARE A TERRIBLE BUY! Kevin Hunter" What he is saying is spot on. At least, it’s what is going on in the market place where I reside.
Used car prices are very close to brand new prices, and after I factor in promo’s, interest rates, etc. Buying new is about the same. Even better if you’re willing to buy something too many folks don’t want.
Car buying these days is like playing the lottery with a bunch of shysters.

Best Water Saving Shower Head Which One really Worth It? I have a hand held that I took the water saver out. (I hate weak shower spray). But, I only get wet, turn off the water, clean up, turn water back on to rinse off - done.

One of the biggest water consumers we all have (assuming no leaks or plumbing issues) is outdoor watering / gardening. It’s spring, and it’s time to get stuff growing, and you need water to start seeds and gardens.
Car washing uses a lot of water too.
If you have a toilet tank and regular flow, you can place a brick in the tank to cut down on usage.

Are premium credit cards really worth the annual fee? Depends on how much you spend, where you spend, if you carry a balance or not. etc.

Is Your AAA Membership Worth It? I don’t think we’ve had a year go by when it hasn’t come in handy! We’ve used it at least three times for towing services, twice for our own cars and once for a friend’s car that I happened to be in. We pay for the extended towing service. My husband hit something in the road and blew out two tires late one night on his way home from an airport 2.5 hours away. With the extended towing, AAA towed the car to a shop near our house and we only paid $60 because it was still slightly beyond our towing benefit. If it hadn’t been for that, my husband would have been stuck there overnight and would have had to wait until a shop could repair the tires. That tow service alone paid for our membership that year.

I managed to lock my keys in the car once and they came to the rescue, and I’ve also used my AAA membership to help friends who did the same thing. They also came to our house on a cold, snowy morning to replace a dead battery.

I use the travel discounts as well. They’re not usually significant, but every little bit adds up. I’ll keep renewing our membership!

Best Water Saving Shower Head Which One really Worth It? I looked into your suggestion about sticking with established brands like Moen, and after doing a bit more research I came across the Moen Engage Chrome Magnetix 2-in-1 Combo Rain Showerhead which seems to have solid reviews and a defined flow rate. It looks like it might balance water efficiency with decent pressure, which is exactly what I’m after. Do you think this one would be a better and more reliable choice compared to the filtered options I mentioned earlier, or should I still consider those?

Ambulance insurance Went to one of these free lunch seminars yesterday, surprised Clark hasn’t addressed this topic (at least that I could find). When I asked, the sales reps stated it isn’t “insurance.” From reading the company’s reviews at BBB, seems like there are limits on what they will pay and some customers had claims denied because they didn’t submit within 180 days. The company must scrub its name from search results because it’s been around since the 1970s and there’s almost nothing negative about the company showing up in searches.
It’s surprising to me that Clark hasn’t covered this topic…

SFGATE: "Safeway customers are livid over new 'completely useless' grocery bags in SF" My Harris Teeter has the paper bags with the handles. If the bag is lite they seem to work. But if it’s loaded down it’s hand under the bag for me. I don’t know why these people in CA don’t have this figured out by now. My Food Lion has both the “normal” size paper bags and the smaller ones. Paper is biodegradable and plastic is not.

I’m really bad about those re-useable bags. I have a couple in my car, I always forget to bring them in with me!

Best Water Saving Shower Head Which One really Worth It? You’ve done solid research. The Canopy Filtered Shower Head is the better choice because it improves pressure and still saves water. The spray feels more even and comfortable. The Eskiin Shower Head Water Filter Replacement is only a filter, so it won’t fix weak pressure. I’d go with Canopy for a proper upgrade.

What Are Some Easy Ways to Save Money Each Month? More information about your financial situation including debt status would be helpful for more specific comments. Some general considerations. 1) Track all spending: Many of us know most of our expenses but not 100%. Record all spending on an ongoing basis to capture periodic expenses, miscellaneous expenses, etc. Then examine all the categories for possible reductions. 2) Pay yourself first: Allocate money at the beginning of each month towards your savings/retirement buckets. This limits the amount of money available each month for expenses and “forces” additional reductions in expenses. 3) Reduce high interest debt: See if you are eligible for a lower interest car loan or lower credit card interest rate (switch to Credit Union cards). Use powerpay.org to guide paying down credit card debt. If your credit card debt is very high work with an agency associated with the NFCC.org.

Best Water Saving Shower Head Which One really Worth It? I honestly wasn’t planning to change my shower setup anytime soon, but lately my water bill has been creeping up, and I’ve started noticing how much water I’m probably wasting daily.
On top of that, the water pressure isn’t even that great, so it feels like I’m losing on both sides.

So now I’m kind of stuck because I need a better, more efficient solution sooner than I expected.

While checking different options online, I ended up shortlisting two water-saving shower heads that seem to be getting a lot of attention.
Still not sure if they’re actually effective or just getting hyped:

My requirements are pretty straightforward:

  • Good water pressure while still saving water
  • Comfortable, consistent spray (not too weak or uneven)
  • Durable build so I don’t have to replace it anytime soon

If anyone here has tried these or has real experience with water-saving or filtered shower heads, I’d really appreciate your input.
Any advice before I make a final decision would help a lot.

Thanks!

SFGATE: "Safeway customers are livid over new 'completely useless' grocery bags in SF" I agree, Amanda. Growing up, our groceries were always in paper bags w/out handles. When I go to a store that has paper bags, unless the contents are very light, I always have my hand on the bottom to make sure it doesn’t tear. I also feel that being ‘livid’ over this is a very over-the-top reaction.

Income Tax Credit and 403 company contribution Every year, I have been deducting $8,000 as a tax credit from my taxable income for a traditional IRA. I think it shows up as a retirement credit, max at $8,000 a year. Which worked out fine, I received a small refund each year and never have to pay any additional tax( I am in Washington state).

Our company gave us a small amount (less than $1,000 a year) as a retirement contribution. (I have never matched it) - I never pay attention to the count in this amount.(Tax program never asked)

Do I need to report this $1,000 amount? I use the FREE online Tax program, and it has never mentioned this in the past. What happens if I get an audit?

SFGATE: "Safeway customers are livid over new 'completely useless' grocery bags in SF" I don’t really see the problem. Growing up, no brown paper grocery bags had handles. I think the first time I saw handles on those types of bags was in a “fancy” grocery store like Trader Joes or Whole Foods. I didn’t realize that some Safeways had bags with handles. Likely the bag is more stable if you carry it from the bottom anyway.

Travel to south africa In 2016 my spouse and I spent 4 weeks in Cape Town and then 10 days along the southern coast to Port Elizabeth. Those areas are well worth visiting but your son need to be very cautious about safely. Most areas of Cape Town are not safe to walk at night.
As noted by Henrius, your son should avoid Johannesburg. He should consider signing up for the State Department STEP program to get alerts while in South Africa.

Is Your AAA Membership Worth It? Last time I tried to use tow coverage from USAA I waited for so long that I finally called an independent tow truck and paid their high price. This also happened another time.

I asked the drivers why no one ever showed up to tow my car. They said the insurance companies and AAA offer such low reimbursements that they will only respond to a call if there are no other calls at higher rates. One tow guy told me a driver waited TWO DAYS for an AAA tow.

Tow insurance is getting to be a joke because of low reimbursements to tow truck drivers.

Kevin Hunter The Homework Guy: "WHY 2–3 YEAR OLD CARS ARE A TERRIBLE BUY! Kevin Hunter" For goodness sakes. He assumes the average consumer is a dope. If the sales price is not 20 to 25% less than a new one, do not buy. When I was looking for deals, I found new car dealers had outrageous prices on used cars, and knew best how to hide defects. Moral of the story? Buy from individuals and small independent car dealers. Bought a low mile 2008 Corolla about 5 years ago for $7000, and it has been a real winner.

Is it really worth getting insurance, or am I just overthinking it? Geeze if you don’t have a few thousand dollars left in your estate when you die you have really failed at life. Even if you have to draw down all your assets to have medicaid take over payment for a nursing home you are still allowed to keep a few thousand dollars. Cremation is under $2k.

Those life insurance policies they hawk to old people on TV count on people making payments for a few years and then dropping it. That’s how they make their money.
