Global Antimicrobial Resistance Innovation Fund (GAMRIF)
UK - Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)
The Global Antimicrobial Resistance Innovation Fund (GAMRIF) is an Official Development Assistance (ODA) funded UKaid programme from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). It supports high-quality research and development (R&D) around the world to reduce the threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in humans, animals, and the environment for the benefit of people in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), focussing on product development (such as therapeutics, alternatives, vaccines, diagnostics and beyond). GAMRIF delivers through bilateral partnerships, global initiatives, and product development partnerships (PDPs) to establish international research partnerships with industry, academia, and governments. This approach enables it to collaborate with, and leverage additional funding from, other global donors to develop innovative One Health* solutions to tackle AMR in LMICs and increase the availability of context-specific, accessible, and affordable innovations for LMICs. (*One Health is an integrated, unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimise the health of people, animals and ecosystems. It recognises that the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants, and the wider environment (including ecosystems) are closely linked and interdependent.)
NIHR Research and Innovation for Global Health Transformation: Call 2

National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)'s second Research and Innovation for Global Health Transformation (RIGHT) call. RIGHT funds cutting-edge interdisciplinary applied health research in key areas in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where a strategic and targeted investment can result in a transformative impact. RIGHT Call 2 is funding mental health research in LMICs through supporting applied research on the development and evaluation of interventions to improve outcomes for people affected by mental health issues. UK universities and research institutes were invited to submit applications including a co-applicant or joint lead applicant from an LMIC relevant to the research proposal. Research must be focused on improving the health and welfare of people in LMICs.

RIGHT Call 3 supports equitable partnerships between LMIC and UK researchers to generate new research knowledge and evidence on interventions to improve outcomes for those affected by multimorbidity in ODA-eligible countries. UK universities and research institutes were invited to submit applications including a co-applicant or joint lead applicant from an LMIC relevant to the research proposal. Research must be focused on improving the health and welfare of people in LMICs.

UK and LMIC-based universities and research institutes were invited to submit applications. Research must be focused on improving the health and welfare of people in LMICs.

Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases

The Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) coordinates and supports research activities that address the prevention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases, on a global scale. The GACD is the first collaboration of major research funding agencies to specifically address chronic non-communicable diseases.
Joint Global Health Trials Initiative

NIHR disburses funds to MRC, which makes onwards disbursements to awardees. The aim of this programme is to generate new knowledge to contribute to improving health in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Priority will be given to proposals most likely to yield implementable results and designed to address the major causes of mortality or morbidity in LMICs.
NIHR Global Health Research Units: Call 2

The NIHR's second Global Health Research call for Units. UK universities and research institutes were invited to submit applications, working in equitable partnerships with researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), to develop their ambitions to deliver world-class applied global health research to address under-funded or under-researched global health areas specific to those countries. Global Health Research Units are defined as a well-established research partnership or network of universities and research institutes in LMICs and the UK: 1. With an existing track-record of delivering internationally recognised applied global health research addressing unmet health needs in ODA-eligible countries; 2. Who wish to consolidate and expand this work, supporting and developing thematic research and capacity strengthening networks, through regional and global hubs; 3. Who will deliver a large scale, ambitious programme of applied health research through a range of trials and studies; 4. Who are able to leverage the strength of the existing partnership consortium to improve practice and inform policy based on scientific evidence; 5. Who will set up and deliver a substantial and sustainable programme of capacity and capability strengthening at individual and institutional level.

The NIHR has identified health policy and systems research (HPSR) as a strategic global health research priority. Through a process of stakeholder consultation, NIHR aims to develop a portfolio of activities that will support health policy and systems research for the direct and primary benefit of people in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC).

The Global HPSR Consortia call supports broad ambitious programmes of health policy and systems research and capacity strengthening delivered through a consortium of partners. UK and LMIC universities and research institutes were invited to submit applications including two joint lead applicants, at least one of whom must be employed by a LMIC institution.

Global HPSR Projects Call 1 supports applied health policy and systems research projects. UK and LMIC universities and research institutes were invited to submit applications including either a sole LMIC Lead Applicant, or two Joint Lead Applicants from either a LMIC or the UK, at least one of whom must be employed by a LMIC institution.
Fleming Fund - Programme Costs

This is an Official Development Assistance (ODA) funded UKaid project from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC)’s Fleming Fund which helps to fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where the burden of drug-resistant infection is greater. These are additional costs to support the running of the programme through, for example, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) resources, or events such as the Fleming Fund delivery partners’ event.
