The relay currently supports NIP-04 for encrypted direct messages. However, newer standards like NIP-17 and NIP-44 are emerging in the ecosystem.

It's unclear whether the relay is expected to support or be aware of these newer DM standards, or if this is intentionally left to clients.

Clarification on the relay’s intended role regarding DM standards, and whether support for newer standards like NIP-44 would be considered in scope.

If appropriate, explore adding support or compatibility for newer DM event formats.

Leaving DM handling entirely to clients, assuming the relay should remain protocol-agnostic for encrypted content.

Additional context
NIP-04 is still widely used, so maintaining compatibility makes sense. Adding clarity or support for newer standards would help align the relay with the evolving Nostr ecosystem.
