IPIC Comments
Data logger analysis show that both MMAU1031675 & MMAU1007581 were having issues with with high level of oxygen during the voyage. High oxygen level combined with a transit time of 53 days, would have caused increased respiration and maturity, which may have been exacerbated by preexisting conditions within the fruit.
According to surveyor, only a limited cartons were inspected due to safety concerns, however the surveyor commented that 99% of the load was mix of green hard and soft bananas, which beg the question if both container were a total loss, as the claim amount would suggest.
There are in total 10 containers on the BL, but apparently only 2 were found to have problems with the quality of the fruit, which would suggest that cargo damage is mostly due to carriage conditions i.e. CA condition not being within range of set point.

Stage 12: Additional Information
Additional information not already covered in the report
The survey is carried out at the secured Port Terminal and at the port there are security, port police, customs, port health, and other political, Media staff are patrolling for inspections. We carry out survey of food items with utmost care and with the assistance of the consignees as quickly as possible to avoid problems.
If the surveyor open carton by carton of bananas for inspection of the cargo condition, there are chances that the inspectors may notice the overripe, rotten, chilled banana and they will confiscate the goods, the container, and detain the persons involved. Detailed inspection of cargo as per IPIC requirement at port terminal is not possible due to above restrictions.
Conclusion / Summary
Undersigned surveyor has given due consideration to his survey findings to the ripe bananas sighted present upon the survey, to the information obtained, and are made available. On this basis that the cause of ripening to the shipment of bananas may fairly, and reasonably be attributed to transit delay 53 days, temperature abuse in transit, and could be loaded overmature bananas. It is the shipper's responsibility to ensure the correct temperature setting of the container. Temperature setting and postharvest life are highly dependent on commodity packaging prior to stowage and pulp temperature during loading. B.L. remarks : Goods shipped in refrigerated container(s) set at shipper's requested carriage temperature SHIPPER'S LOAD, STOW, WEIGHT AND COUNT.
