This docker image provides a basic redirect server for HTTP requests to be 301 redirected to HTTPS. This service assumes that the HTTPS service will always be on port 443.

Some Web applications, like JIRA and Confluence, do not automatically route non-HTTPS requests to the HTTPS port. The solution for this is to provision a Web server (Apache, Nginx) with a single virtual host, redirecting all HTTP requests to HTTPS. In a dockerized world, our JIRA and Confluence docker images do not contain multiple services, so we needed another service to perform the HTTP redirect.

Enter http2httpsredirect.

Run make (without any arguments) see receive a list of targets available to you. The rest should be self-explanatory if you are experienced in creating Docker images.

1. Run make image to build the docker image.

1. Run make start-server to start the server.
2. Run curl -I http://localhost:8000
3. You should notice that you are HTTP301 redirected to https://localhost.
4. Run make stop-server to stop the server.
