PlaceholderAPI v3 (From now on referred to as v3 in this post) will be a complete rewrite of the original PlaceholderAPI you know.

The main focus of it will be improved performance and handling of placeholders, but also QOL changes and support for various things (Listed below).
Other changes also may include the eCloud utilized with the plugin.

Since the code is currently not accessible for everyone do we have this discussion here to provide you with a way to keep track of the currently planned changes of v3.

There is no ETA for a release yet including alpha/beta builds, so your patience is appreciated.

  Improve the (Command) UI of PlaceholderAPI through the inclusion of Hover text, click actions, etc.
• Java 16 Support (Required for MC 1.17)
  This will also be a feature for PAPI v2
• Support for Async Placeholder Requests PlaceholderAPI3#29
  Add an option for asynchronous Placeholder requests.
