'aluko distinguishes between long/short vowels, and stressed/unstressed vowels (when a word doesn't follow regular stress patterns). Here's how these are written for the letter ⟨a⟩ (in Strict Romanization):

Diacritics Short Long
No stress ⟨a⟩ ⟨ā⟩
Stress ⟨á⟩ ⟨ã⟩ (or ⟨â⟩)

However, in Loose Romanization, only long vowels are differentiated from their short counterparts, by duplicating the vowel (for example, ⟨a⟩ becomes ⟨aa⟩).

Note: For Diphthongs, the vowel marker goes onto the first vowel.
