First of all, thank you for being my writer! I am so glad you chose to participate this year and that you're writing for me.

Now, what to say about the fandoms I chose...

First up, Nirvana in Fire. I love this show beyond the telling of it. I love the crazy plot, the scheming, the loyalties, the inevitable tragedies, just all of it. Even the yeti side plot. I would be happy for a missing scene featuring any of my chosen characters, if that moves you. Tell me more about how Mei Changsu lives with his disability. Tell me more about Jingyan's relationship with his mother. Tell me more about Lin Chen's relationship with Langya Hall. But I'm equally up for pre-canon or post-canon fic. I would prefer if Mei Changsu somehow made it out alive but if you want to tell me about how Jingyan and Lin Chen find solace in each other post-canon that would be fine too. I am not at all opposed to having other characters show up in the fic, I would just like the central character(s) to be Mei Changsu and/or Jingyan and/or Lin Chen. I'm equally up for aus that take them out of the canon context; there's not nearly enough of that in the (anglo) fandom for my tastes. Give me the modern au, or the space opera, or move them historical periods, it's all delicious to me. In terms of rating I am happy for anything from gen to the most gratuitous pornography. In terms of shipping, I am also open to whatever moves you. Knives are fine but I would rather not have dead dove fic.

Next, Disguiser. What a ridiculous show with some absolutely amazing family dynamics. I am particularly invested in the relationship between Ming Lou and Ming Cheng. Ming Cheng is so devoted, and I want to know more about why. I also want to know more about the devotion the other way. How reciprocal is it anyway? I am also a huge fan of Ming Jing (Ming Tai is too often very punchable sorry Hu Ge) so if she makes an appearance I would be delighted. I'm equally up for aus that take them out of the canon context; there's not nearly enough of that in the (anglo) fandom for my tastes. Give me the modern au, or the space opera, or move them historical periods, it's all delicious to me. In terms of rating I am happy for anything from gen to the most gratuitous pornography, though with this duo I must admit leaning more towards the pornography side of things. Knives are fine but I would rather not have dead dove fic.

Finally, Female doctor and the rabbit spirit. I discovered this short film thanks to the Yuletide tag set and it really grabbed me as having so much potential for continued storytelling. I particularly would love to know more about the mythology side of things and its implications for our doctor and rabbit. Do they have similar lifespans now? Does the rabbit spirit have to spend a certain amount of time as a rabbit every day? Does she have other duties as a spirit? I also wonder about the snake spirit, and whether they ever try to communicate with her. So many questions! If you'd rather not get into the mythology side of things, that's fine too. I would be happy to have a little glimpse of their domestic activities as well, with pornography being absolutely welcome. I'm equally up for aus that take them out of the canon context. Knives are fine but I would rather not have dead dove fic.

If you need any clarification on any of this, happy to discuss in comments!

Dear Yuletide author,

here is some detail about what I like and don't like... )

Happy to take questions, anon commenting should be on!

Thanks v much for joining in this madness, and for your contribution to me especially!

In general, I like fic that isn't necessarily terribly fic-y, but allows for complicated feelings and relationships, ambiguous endings, etc etc. I love it when things feel REAL, in characterisation, feelings, the setting, etc. I like dialogue, and people who are too smart or witty or dangerous for their own good, and moral ambiguity. I look for spot-on character voices, and seemingly-insignificant details, and difficult and complicated relationships that ring true. I like humor, and realism, and ambiguity, and the ridiculous. I like queerness. I like the apocalyptic. I like laughter in the face of despair. I like things that are bittersweet, and happy endings, and sad endings, and the inevitable. (and I totally stole a lot of that from [personal profile] oliviacirce)

That being said, you can still get me with a trope or two: apocalypses, space AUs (operas or otherwise), historical AUs, HP AUs, bodyswap, kidfic (tho that might be a challenge with these fandoms!), and a few others that my brain won't cough up as I type this.

I really like when people are in mortal peril (and it works out ok) because of the strong likelihood of declarations of love, and over the top behaviour that's sanctioned by the situation. :)

I don't particularly want high school/college AU, or the coffeeshop AU, as fic that comes out too pat, with everything neatly tied up like a Disney cartoon is not my cup of tea. I'm also not much into cheating or the scatalogical end of BDSM.

Fandom specific ideas!

Elizabethan/Jacobean theatre: I am all about the Kit and Will, and especially them getting naked together, BUT if you want to bring in other writers of the time, and turn it into an ensemble piece, I would die of joy. I love the anti-modern view of authorship in that time, and would be so into an exploration of what that means in practice. Of course, with Kit in the picture, you might want to talk spies and Catholicism. That would also be cool! I am well into their texts making an appearance (is Will in the Jan 1593 production of Massacre at Paris???) so if that's your bag, please go for it!

In short, anything would be great. :)

Elementary: I love this show. However, I do find the murder quotient to be unreasonably high, so if you could stick to canonical cases, or just do something that had the crew interacting with each other without a case involved, I'd appreciate it. Gen fic would be lovely, whether that's Marcus and his brother, or Ms Hudson interacting with Sherlock and Joan, or something else. Equally, Joan and Moriarty acting on that sexual tension, or Sherlock and Marcus dealing with their feelings naked, or Ms Hudson taking up with Moriarty (why? you tell me!) would also be fantastic. No het pls, though!

Thick of It: Honestly, this show is awful (full of awful people and terrible situations) and I adore it. However, I have favourites, and Malcolm and Jamie are it. If you wanted to build up a whole policy catastrophe for them to react to, I would probably die of joy. However, I would be just as thrilled with the thinnest veneer of a premise for some intense hatesex between the two of them. My needs they are few. :)

Obviously, you'll be coming to these fandoms with your own ideas and with your own loves and hates. I hope some of it lines up with the stuff above, but you're the writer! Do what you need to do! :) Also I think anon commenting is on, so if you want to ask me anything directly, please do.

Many Forms of Resistance - Social theorist RPF - OH MY GOD THIS IS MY FAVOURITE THING. ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE MILLS AND FOUCAULT DEBATING SOCIAL THEORY WHILE RIDING A MOTORCYCLE TO SAN FRANCISCO. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH CAPSLOCK IN THE WORRRRRRRRLD. ♥___♥

The Lovely and the Fair - A Knight's Tale - Gentle but perfect little gem of a fic, with a pairing I didn't expect and strong female character I REALLY didn't expect. Utterly wonderful.

When the road darkens - A Knight's Tale - What happens after the movie, and Will has to actually BE a knight? Beautifully done, both for historical accuracy and historical inaccuracy a la the film. War is hell, kids.

The Sleepover - Sherlock RPF - A delightful not-quite-slash fic that made me smile. Oh boys.

Why Benedict Cumberbatch shouldn't quit his day job - Sherlock RPF - I laughed, f'reals. Charming, charming gen.

Methods of Communication - Star Trek RPF - Not quite sure how this ended up in the challenge but since I love all Pines and Quintos, rec rec rec!

A Day Like This - A Single Man - Pre-book happiness. Made my heart ache for hours afterwards.

Sebastian Revisited - Brideshead Revisited - The most perfect image of how I would fill in the blank pages at the end of the actual novel. A peaceful and still kind of joy.

I'm a free bitch - Bad Romance music video - Takes the narration away from Gaga with absolutely no loss of brilliance. Love love love.

Just Another Day In the Secret Base - Disney Princesses Superheroes - I love everything about the premise and the reality of this creation.

Up early. I am really a morning person, wow.

The windows of the houses opposite are glossed opaque with the sunrise, the blue sky streaked with someone coming home, coming to visit.

I have a cup of coffee that tastes amazing, a fic in progress, and the new Why? album playing.

It's almost like it's not Tuesday.

Spent the afternoon in Clapham Common listening to Teenage Fanclub and Super Furry Animals.

Bliss.

Home now, a little sunburned, a lot blissed out. *happysigh*

Long time no update!

Still alive, more or less! Loving the Used album, hating the fact it's a rainy Tuesday. Blergh.

A Canadian musician has become an Internet sensation after posting a song on YouTube about United Airlines breaking his guitar.

Dave Carroll's video for the song "United Breaks Guitars" was posted on site earlier this week and has received more than 600,000 hits by Thursday evening.

"I was thinking I'd definitely get some action on (YouTube) because the song has been resonating so well with audiences as I've been performing it, but I didn't know it would take off like this," Carroll said.

Carroll, a guitarist for the pop-rock group "Sons of Maxwell", has since been fielding calls for appearances around the world, including a call from the Oprah Winfrey show Thursday.

...

Taylor Guitars in California has said they'd be happy to see if they could repair the damaged guitar. They also promised a big discount on his next purchase.

United also called to say it wants to discuss the situation. Carroll said officials for the airline said they liked the video and want to use it as a textbook case on how to handle customer complaints in the future.

I guess genre-specific complaints get farther? Either way, AMAZING.

The Louvre holds 35,000 artworks, and is the most visited museum in the world, but currently has no female artists in its collection.

This really really surprised me, but upon reflection, I couldn't think of a single example... Who was it that collects women artists--is it Germaine Greer?

Anyway. Makes me want to collect women artists. A lot. Also, I want to go to Paris.

I really love my rooftop garden. I love even more having chairs and a table up there now, watching the night draw in, the blue sky darken gradually...

And the swifts, the swooping from estate to road, a big aerobatic loop.

I'm reading The Fortnight in September, a pre-war novel about a family's yearly holiday in Bognor. It's one of those books where nothing in particular happens--the conflicts are all minor, petty ones, domestic, inconsequential--but I'm nearly halfway through and I'm riveted.

It's making me so excited for Penzance, though my holiday there will be nothing like theirs.

I am so tired. I completely forgot I was supposed to be at a gig last night until Jenny poked me at lunchtime to remind me. The gig was amazing, though, and I'm glad I went.

Too bad work is going to kick my ass this week.

I have something to go on record with, as per the recent header warnings wank, but I'll come back to this.

I just want to say that I'm kind of ridiculously happy. And that's awesome. :D:D:D:D:D

If you are reading this right now, you have more luxury than someone in Iran could ever hope for right now. If you are watching TV or a video on youtube, updating your status on Facebook, Tweeting, or even texting your friend, you are lucky. If you are safe in your home, and were able to sleep last night without the sounds of screaming from the rooftops, you need to know and understand what is happening to people just like you in Iran right now.

They are not the enemy. They are a people whose election has been stolen. For the first time in a long time, a voice for change struck the youth of Iran, just as it did for many people in the United States only seven months ago. Hossein Mousavi gained the support of millions of people in Iran as a Presidential candidate. He stands for progressiveness. He supports good relations with the West, and the rest of the world. He is supported with fervor as he challenges the oppressive regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

On Friday, millions of people waited for hours in line to vote in Iran's Presidential election. Later that night, as votes came in, Mousavi was alerted that he was winning by a two-thirds margin. Then there was a change. Suddenly, it was Ahmadinejad who had 68% of the vote - in areas which have been firmly against his political party, he overwhelmingly won. Within three hours, millions of votes were supposedly counted - the victor was Ahmadinejad. Immediately fraud was suspected - there was no way he could have won by this great a margin with such oppposition. Since then, reports have been coming in of burned ballots, or in some cases numbers being given without any being counted at all. None of this is confirmed, but what happened next seems to do the trick.

The people of Iran took the streets and rooftops. They shout "Death to the dictator" and "Allah o akbar." They join together to protest. Peacefully. The police attack some, but they stay strong. Riots happen, and the shouting continues all night. Text messaging was disabled, as was satellite, and websites which can spread information such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and the BBC are blocked in the country. At five in the morning, Arabic speaking soldiers (the people of Iran speak Farsi) stormed a university in the capital city of Tehran. While sleeping in their dormitories, five students were killed. Others were wounded. These soldiers are thought to have been brought in by Ahmadinejad from Lebanon. Today, 192 of the university's faculty have resigned in protest.

Mousavi requested that the government allow a peaceful rally to occur this morning - the request was denied. Many thought that it would not happen. Nevertheless, first a few thousand people showed up in the streets of Tehran. At this point, it is estimated that 1 to 2 million people were there. Mousavi spoke on the top of a car. The police stood by. For a few hours, everything was peaceful. Right now, the same cannot be said. Reports of injuries, shootings, and killings are flooding the internet. Twitter has been an invaluable source - those in Iran who still know how to access it are updating regularly with picture evidence. People are being brutally beaten. Tonight will be another night without rest for so many in Iran no older than I am. Tonight there is a Green Revolution.
