Type of Worker Makes all the Diff for Remote
Hi Chris and Mike -
I agree that working on site is more productive than working remotely. I think the "water cooler" effect is an intangible that cannot be underestimated.
However, I would like to make a distinction regarding remote work. If you are an SME (System Matter Expert), then working remotely is great because everyone comes to *you*. If you are not an SME, then you have to make a greater effort to maintain connection with others. I have been working remotely since 2017 and I hate it because I am a JOAT-MON (Jack Of All Trades, Master Of None). Little things I used to do every day at work to help others git 'er dun are no longer part of my shtick. As a result I have to work *harder* when I am remote in order to accomplish the same tasks.
In terms of an answer to the problem, I feel that there should be an A%/B% balance between @ work and @ home, where the A and B differs for different people and types of work.
