Hey Mike & Chris,

First of all, long-time listener here all the way from Northern Ireland! Wanted to say a big thanks for making such a great show. It's helped me navigate the dev world a lot and definitely kept me informed.

I do have a question for you both though, is the Junior Dev market shrinking? I've had a few jobs over the course of 2020/21 that have been set at the Junior level (Mostly web/React stuff) but it's always fallen through. Albeit I've mostly been working in smaller businesses, but at times it's felt like they expect the juniors to have the experience/knowledge of mid-range developers, which makes working as Junior hard to set expectations with and has caused a few career opportunities to fall through on me after a couple of months.

It could've led to a lot of burnout problems for me, if it wasn't for a really good experience I had with my last employers who were really encouraging and helped me get some solid experience on an internship-type arrangement.

That said, the interviews etc. I've had for junior roles since then have felt like they don't actually want a junior insofar as they actually want a cheap mid-range dev.

Would love to hear your guys' thoughts on this & any advice if possible!

Best,
Jr Jacob
