Johan thinks Bug Bounties could be the solution

Hey gents long time listener of the show. I have been a realtime style c, c++ developer for a while. I am very interested in your issues with opensource funding whether its brew, npm, ect. I believe that opensource runs most effectively when its tools for other developers to use. In your last episode you were talking about how you were looking for solutions. I had layed out a potential solution to this a few years ago as a potential project. In my opinion the best option would be a type of bug bounty program paired with like an in platform currency that can freely flow between parties without tax implications and difficult transaction stuff. Similar to how some ingame currencies work. If you do this you could take a small cut whenever they import or export the currency to the real world.
The other problem you have is a lot of people who learn how to write code but don't have a degree, and are self taught. This system would have a low barrier to entry and could provide a foot in the door especially considering it is open source and you can display your skills more freely. If you tied it into the github/gitlab/bitbucket api's the funds for bug bountys would be tied to a successful merge.
The idea behind the virtualish currency is that if your a developer solving an issue it makes it easier to contribute to issues upstream that your not an expert in. Additionally if your project has funding it makes it easier to contribute funds upstream if required.

I could expand quite abit more on the logistics of this idea if you guys are interested. I would like to know your thoughts on the concept. Thanks
Johan
