This is Dustin from the Boise mini meetup. On today’s Self Hosted you guys talked about degoogling. This is a journey I’ve been on for about 2 years and I’d say I’m 90% of the way there. This included replacing GSuite for my podcast. I’ve also gone with the model of self housing when it makes sense and trying not to centralize everything.

Mail, contacts, calendar (both personal and what was on GSuite) - Fastmail
Notes and docs - Joplin using NextCloud as the sync target
Photo sync - NextCloud
Phone - iPhone SE (2020)
DNS - NextDNS
Maps - Apple Maps and OSMAND
Search - DuckDuckGo
Browser - Firefox and Safari
Chromebook - Thinkpad X260 with Arch and now Fedora.

Todo:
Google Home Hub and Google Home mini will be replaced with HomePod Minis - I’ve tried Mycroft and Rhasspy, but the performance just isn’t good enough.
Google Photos keeps my wife happy and makes it easy to share pictures of our kid with the grandparents and isn’t Facebook.
YouTube - Currently using Freetube on the Thinkpad and Piped on the iPhone.
