Tyler is not happy with vendor security systems

Hello, I am interested in a home-security system. The problem is, so are my parents, and their route of choice is to purchase always-on Comcast Bluetooth then over the internet connected cameras. There are many problems I see with this approach, namely: proprietary firmware, sending to a proprietary server, probably not encrypting enough/at all, and Bluetooth is so vulnerable!

On the latest self-hosted, I heard your discussion about friggot and your home-security systems. I was wondering: which route should I take to fix this situation?

My operating requirements are:
- keep it ¢heap
- need both voice & video
- always recording functionality
- FOSS, of course
- secure!

My idea on how to move forward:
- linode instance with wireguard as the only public facing thing, friggot and a web-ui behind the wireguard
- local raspi/other device doing encoding and transmission
- wyze or pinecube as the camera

I'd love to hear your thoughts, and thanks for the awesome program!
