Mike literally described Chrome OS and Chromebooks on episode 414. A Linux distro / OS that is tightly integrated with the hardware and doesn't care about including proprietary blobs etc.

Google will eventually cut the right deals with the right OEM's who are working on something approaching the M1 and they might lag a little, but we'll see a device that's running Linux that can compete with Apple. Maybe just on price. The GPL extremists will find a way to complain about it but at least there'll be *something* to compete with Apple. Maybe.
