Hey LUP! Just heard the latest episode about TLP and wanted to comment that yeah there are commands to temporarily disable the charge thresholds set in the config file, as well as a command to temporarily set a different charge threshold without modifying the config file.

sudo tlp fullcharge 
sudo tlp setcharge 70 90 BAT0

There is also a command to initiate recalibration: 
sudo tlp recalibrate
