Drew our editor put it will
You're wrong about this whole thing in the most Florida way possible.
Fair pay is a HUGE issue in this country right now. It's less of an issue in Europe because they have actual laws to protect workers, in contrast to this dystopian nightmare we call "workers rights" in air quotes with a wink and a nod that heavily implies the right is that you can work, not that you have rights while being a laborer.
Case in point, Colorado passed a law recently requiring companies to post a real, legitimate pay scale on job postings. Some companies decided they would rather not have employees in Colorado than let their people know what others are paid. Some tried to skirt around it by posting something like "$1 to $1M" and were smacked down with fines.
The employees at Apple should have known better than to have a chat room within company property. Apple had every right to shut that down. But when they start telling the employees that they can't have those conversations inside or even outside of the company, they are becoming the thought police. You don't pay these people while they're off the clock and off property. Get the fuck out of here trying to tell them what they can talk about on their own time.
Sincerely,
your editor
