Sean says Proton as a runtime was foreseen by a great wizard

Hi guys, been listening since show 1 and it's still the best show on JB. Do you guys know anyone who's right an annoying amount of the time? John Carmack is one of those guys. He called the win32 emulation (it is emulation when you pretend to be something else, even if it's the syscall table) back in 2013.

Here's his reddit post with the good stuff: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/17x0sh/john_carmack_asks_why_wine_isnt_good_enough/c89sfto/

As for me, I'm sold. Playing through Doom (2016), Mass Effect, and even older shooters that have been unplayed in my Steam library for the decade Linux has been my daily driver, Carmack and Valve is right. If we want games to work on Linux, we need to support what the game expect for now. It's a great story for preservation too.

There are games in my steam Library that work on Proton or Wine but no longer work on Windows 10. My kids can play Math Blaster and other QuickTime based games that stopped working after Windows XP. I call it a win.

Thanks for making a great show.
