> For home servers, I buy used mini PCs from ebay (Dell & HP). I spent about $150 - $200 per device, & those come with 2TB SSD, i7, 16GB - 32GB RAM. I love how compact they are. I have three so far. I put Nextcloud on one of them, a media server on another, & my Bitcoin/Lightning node on the third one (Nix-Bitcoin is on my TODO list). I prefer the separation to mitigate the impact of downtime.

> I’ve been really enjoying Immich and haven’t encountered any problems with the frequent updates. I use a bash script that runs nightly as a cron job to update all of my docker containers. When there’s been major changes requiring edits to the yaml I get a pop up notice in the web gui pointing me to the release notes detailing the needed changes and so far there’s been no repercussions from my script pulling the new image prior to manually editing my yaml.

> I have had a home server of some kind for the last 25 years.I have gone from old Dell/compaq/hp servers picked up on eBay (that heated my whole house) to desktop hardware, to my current Synology. I am a systems architect and decided that I no longer want to have a non paid side hustle being a sysadmin at home. However, listening to you guys has caused me to now expand back to multiple Dell 7060 machines running ProxMox and just getting ready to install NixOS…thanks a lot 🤣
