Wanted to talk about a topic dear to Alex's heart: shucking!
I have a Synology NAS that has 4x12TB WD shucked drives in it. Have had them for roughly 3 years. I wanted to do the 'Badger-stack' PMS build; got the case, and found a holding place for the data residing on the NAS and proceeded to move the drives. Only the new build never saw the drives. The behavior matches up with what you would see with the 3.3v pin shenanigans. I tried snipping the cable method - no luck. I tried putting them back in the NAS, all 4 drives are invisible to it. I then tried pulling the 3.3v pin off the SATA power connection on the drive. Still invisible.
