Cory is a long-timer with a question...
Hey Guys,
Love the show been listening since the start.
I would love some advice. I have been doing 100% Salesforce development for the last 5 years and I was a DotNet developer before that for about 5 years. The last major JS framework that loved and used all the time was Knockout.js. (so i know I am old, in internet time) I have done a bunch of random little things in Node and Python but in no way am I Python or Node Developer. I follow all the tech newsletters around web development and if you were to ask me about any framework, library, design trend, etc I would have basic knowledge of all of them. What can I say, I am addicted to news.
I have an Idea for a small website for collectors of a certain brand of backpacks. These backpacks are released all the time and there are collector groups and tons of sellers.
The one thing I have not seen is a single website where you can look up all the previous released bags. I was thinking about building this myself. With future enhancements being links to new bags that you can currently buy with affiliate links if possible. Another future enhancement would be to allow people to post classifieds for the bags so that people could buy and sell bags from other people.
With these enhancements in mind I was thinking that just setting up an existing wiki instance or something would not be appropriate. I am also unsure of the legal requirements that something like this would take. I have seen other websites like this for brands like Pokemon cards so I am not super concerned about being taken down as long as I have the right disclaimers on the site.
How would one go about getting a lawyer to confirm this? I am not opposed to creating an LLC to handle the website business side.
Starting a new project from scratch right now is such an overwhelming experience.
There are so many options that in the end are all probably perfectly fine for something like this. I mean there are 3412319837 Node frameworks, and so much more. There are also tons of ways to deploy apps, serverless, aws, linode server, azure platform, heroku, etc.
Picking a backend, frontend, database, auth provider, hosting style is just too much. I would love to build this in something modern that will both teach me something new and relevant in the marketplace as well as be something that I could deploy myself.
Sorry for the long email, I am not quite sure what I am looking for in a response. I guess I am looking for you two to just tell me what to use and be done with it as well as bring up the topic of choice anxiety in technology.
Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks for all the wonderful content you guys put out.
