It seems the M1 is really great, but there have already been multiple reports of users' macbooks dying randomly, either from power delivery problems or SSD failures.
I'm not super familiar with Apple care, but it seems that the M1 SSD is actually not covered by the service, and seems to be the main component experiencing failure? If I put on a small tinfoil hat I'd say that Apple specifically didn't put the TBW of the SSD so that when it fails and isn't covered by Apple care, you basically have to buy a new one (well in some cases its actually like 600-700 dollars for a new board, but that's a new laptop to a lot of people).
Knowing that Apple has a long history of hardware failures and poorly handled warranties, should we really still be giving this company business? Chris I know you like your iPad Pro and Florida Man likes his M1, but what would it take for you to give up on these platforms? And even if the horror stories haven't happened to you, at what point do we choose to not buy from a company due to their policies and how they've treated others?
Or am I being too harsh? I genuinely don't think other sellers have the level of issues Apple tends to with its devices, but is that just because they aren't reported on?
As a side note, I'd be curious to know what the wear on Mike's SSD is right now, given that is most likely the component to fail first on any laptop, and marks the end of the line of anything with soldered on storage.
