Marcel needs an escape hatch!

Agh! I missed config confession AGAIN! Maybe it's not too late to get some advice on a nix problem I'm having. I'm trying to get STM32CubeProgrammer running. There's some advice in https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/355181, and I tried the GitHub lang:nix search trick, and the best I could do is get the CLI working, but not the GUI. I reached out to the authors of those, and they couldn't get it working either. It's already using FHS and it's not packaged as a flatpak or appimage. Are there some escape hatches I'm missing? I'm really trying to like nixos, and I'm putting in a lot of hours trying to get stuff running. Not being able to run the software I need is a complete deal breaker.
