Yo, also: “a whole generation is missing their fathers and growing up without them”

Why are they trying to prime culture with this “be a dad to everyone, especially the kids without a dad” thing? When clearly most kids have dads in the picture?

Almost like they’re going to die in a war or something.

  • If you are storing everything on the ZFS filesystem, taking a snapshot in ZFS will include all that data. So if you keep hourly snapshots for the past 24 hours, and daily snapshots for the past week, and then monthly for 3 months for example, you can often dip into those to do recovery when the issue is “oops I deleted something I didn’t want to” rather than going to your huge backup and restoring the entire system

I was always told if you caulk to leave the back open so leaks and smells can be noticed. So, it’s mostly for looks. Some local codes might require it though, so check if your local code was amended.

I have seen aquarium sealant (pure silicone, the clear stuff that smells like vinegar) be used around the flange to seal up any gap between the flooring and the closet flange which prevents leaks from wetting the subflooring and causing it to rot out.

If you have an uneven floor (bad tiles/old house etc) and you don’t trust shims to hold forever, you can also seat the toilet on plaster of Paris; just leave the back open so leaks can’t build up but again this is only necessary in unusual cases.

TLDR; if you don’t prefer the look and it’s not a code requirement and you are confident that you can achieve a solid mount, you can skip it.

  • Don’t you think it’s time we stop claiming China is bluffing?

Every time they do something, there is always some sinister reason for it. “Ghost cities”, “trains to nowhere”, aggression in the South China Sea towards Taiwan. And every time, it turns into a nothingburger.

Those Ghost cities? A few failed but most of them are filled and vibrant. Those people would be living in poverty a generation ago. High speed rail? They have more high speed rail than the entirety of the United States has of ALL rail.

It’s time to stop treating China as something we can lie away. They’re winning, and they’re winning big. America has been exposed as the “paper tiger” that it is. We could have kept going but between the crimes of our past finally catching up to us and the oligarchs seeing the writing on the wall and trying to cash out or capture what’s left; I’m afraid the ol red white and blue is actually cooked.
