I don’t get how people say “it’s too late now, we’ve opened Pandora’s box”, these things require MASSIVE server fields that even our biggest, richest, most powerful companies are having a hard time keeping afloat, canceling or delaying their construction. Sounds temporary as fuck to me. Sure people at home can self host an llm, but a vast majority of consumers won’t deal with that, and they also won’t be as impressed with the self host options. Once people stop being impressed, and money dries up, I don’t see “Pandora’s Box” staying open too long.

As for twitch alternatives, owncast is awesome, and peertube can be your own personal YouTube and handle livestreams, both have a live chat. But if you simply just want a twitch alternative owncast will be simpler on your end.

The finals thing is especially fucking stupid, when I heard they used ai for the announcer I assumed that meant you could name your teams and the ai announcer would be able to read your unique player made team names. Nope, they needed ai to do the announcer voice because… Who the fuck knows? Like they needed ai to somehow do something less impressive than codsworth saying your name in fallout 4 (making something less impressive than Bethesda is impressive). Its a fun game, but the announcer ai bullshit just always pissed me off with how pointless it was.

As I’ve said before, I’m not giving up 100% on GOG, BUT I think it is time we try to find options, zoom is another DRM free platform, that seems to support linux to some degree. The library does not seem as promising as GOG but it’s something. Also don’t forget a lot of games on steam are actually DRM free. I love gog, I was a patron until the gen ai came to light, but I’ve seen this cycle of enshitification so much. I don’t have my hopes up is all.
