Science Fiction@lemmy.world•Any good aspirational post-apocalyptic fiction about rebuilding society?
1·12 days agoDoes it get better?
I’m about 20% into book two, and I’m finding it exhausting. The first book was a little slow, but I made it through. I’m not sure I would say I enjoyed it, but I appreciated it. The second book feels very unfocused, so far, and still just as slow. The general feeling of hopelessness that many characters express isn’t exactly great for my current mood, either.
I’m a slower , sporadic reader, so eyeing the rest of the trilogy is making me want to abandon it and it just watch the Netflix series.

61·18 days agoIf you have the processing power to spare (and haven’t done it already), you might be able to re-encode your media files to a more space-efficient codec.
I’ve reduced some of my video files by as much at 75% using Handbrake to convert from AVC to H.264 or H.265. I’m not the most discerning viewer, so I haven’t noticed any difference in video quality, but I’ve definitely noticed the extra space on my drives!

121·19 days agoIt’s news to me because I’ve never heard of it (or maybe just don’t remember hearing of it), so at least now I know to avoid it.

Android@lemmy.world•Galaxy S22 ghost notification sound, despite being on vibrateEnglish
2·21 days agoThank you so much!
It happened again this morning, and I was finally able to track it down with Nice Catch.

I had mentioned the Libre app in the post because it was the only app I had whose notifications would make noise while on vibrate. I thought I had disabled notifications, but it’s clearly still doing something in the background.

I guess it’s gotta go.

8·22 days agoI went to an Oktoberfest festival in the US, and there was a popup shop called Gifthaus.
They did not understand my concern.
Edit: Sadly, it was a shop*, not a poison ship.

1·23 days agoThat’s an interesting explanation for why the phone is making noise while on vibrate. Hopefully I can figure out which app is responsible.

My utitlies website doesn’t let you login if the password field is autofilled by the browser. Whatever Angular-based form validation they are using doesn’t play nice with Firefox’s saved password feature. You have to manually type something in the password field, so I always add and remove a space from the password.
I sent an email to their support, hoping they would fix it, but they just responded saying that they can’t reproduce it.
Well, I can reproduce it. I even told you how. That sounds like a skill issue.
