There has been such large scale awareness growing in March. It&#8217;s been overwhelming. I completed a few interviews, which should be published soon.</p><p>If you&#8217;ve been paying attention closely, you&#8217;ll notice that NVIDIA has been heavily contributing to repositories like gsplat, 3DGRUT, and fVDB over the past few weeks. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-advances-fvdb-with-major-0.4-release-ahead-of-gtc">fVDB also received a V0.4 release</a>, bringing methods like MCMC and 3DGUT to the library. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-ovrtx-adds-gaussian-splat-support">NVIDIA ovrtx also added Gaussian Splat support</a>. </p><p>Additionally, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-releases-vulkan-gaussian-splatting-2026.1">vkSplatting 2026.1</a>, NVIDIA&#8217;s open-source Vulkan Gaussian Splatting reference implementation received its first update of the year.  Separately, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-omniverse-nurec-reaches-general-availability">NVIDIA Omniverse NuRec is now generally available</a> through the NGC catalog. Built on 3D Gaussian Unscented Transform (a variant of gaussian splatting), NuRec reconstructs real-world driving data into interactive 3D scenarios for simulation. There were also multiple GTC sessions dedicated to gaussian splatting at GTC.</p><h2>Standardization</h2><p>Standardization took a massive leap forward this month. Both major 3D interchange formats now have production-ready gaussian splatting support.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/openusd-26.03-adds-native-gaussian-splat-support">OpenUSD 26.03</a> formally released, introducing the UsdVolParticleField3DGaussianSplat schema, a USD prim type for 3DGS data. The release includes a reference Gaussian Splat renderer (hdParticleField), a PLY to USD conversion script, and WebAssembly build support. This is a huge milestone for VFX, virtual production, and animation pipelines.</p><p>On the glTF side, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/cesium-brings-khr_gaussian_splatting-support-to-cesiumjs-and-unreal-engine">Cesium shipped KHR_gaussian_splatting support</a> in both CesiumJS 1.139 and Cesium for Unreal v2.23.0 &#8212; making it one of the first major platform implementations of the Khronos glTF standard announced in February. Given Cesium&#8217;s footprint in geospatial and infrastructure visualization, this is a significant signal. The <a href="https://radiancefields.com/khronos-group-announces-gaussian-splatting-webinar">Khronos Group will host a webinar on April 7, 2026</a> focused on how gaussian splatting is being integrated into glTF and applied across real-world workflows. </p><h2>Platform Updates</h2><p>It was a monster month for platforms.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/babylon.js-v9.0-3dgs-gets-shadows-sogs-and-triangle-splatting-support-announced">Babylon.js V9.0</a> released with several significant splatting updates. Gaussian Splatting meshes can now cast shadows. And Triangle Splatting support has been announced. A new <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gaussian-splat-studio-brings-procedural-splat-workflows-to-cinema-4d">C4D plugin</a> gives Cinema 4D artists a more native way to import, render, relight, and art direct Gaussian splats. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/atlux-v2.1.4-ue-plugin-speeds-up-3dgs-export">Atlux V2.1.4</a> sped up batch rendering for COLMAP export in the Unreal Engine plugin (Mar 30). <a href="https://radiancefields.com/unigine-2.21-expands-gaussian-splatting-controls">UNIGINE 2.21</a> expanded its Gaussian Splatting controls. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nanogs-brings-nanite-style-gaussian-splatting-to-unreal-engine-5">NanoGS</a>, a free Unreal Engine plugin from VFX artist Tim Chen (Moonshine Studio), brings Nanite-inspired optimization to 3DGS rendering. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/colmap-4.0-introduces-major-performance-and-infrastructure-updates">COLMAP 4.0 released</a>, bringing native support to GLOMAP.</p><p>3D streaming infrastructure provider <a href="https://radiancefields.com/miris-launches-public-beta-for-high-fidelity-3d-streaming">Miris launched their public beta</a> on March 22nd. The Culver City-based company is building infrastructure to deliver 3D content at internet scale. </p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/lichtfeld-studio-releases-v0.5">LichtFeld Studio released V0.5</a> with an embedded Python runtime enabling installable plugins, and several new training, editing, and geometry capabilities. Additionally, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/core11-extends-support-for-lichtfeld-studio-through-2026">Core11 extended their sponsorship</a> of LichtFeld Studio through 2026, bringing their total commitment to &#8364;36,500 as a Foundational Sponsor. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/postshot-introduces-photometric-compensation-and-stability-improvements-in-latest-update">Postshot received updates</a> adding photometric compensation and more. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/storysplat-releases-v2.0">StorySplat shipped V2.0</a> with a major overhaul.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/looking-glass-launches-musubi">Looking Glass launched musubi</a> alongside a collaboration with Tavio. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/crysta-ai-launches-crysta-studio-public-preview">Crysta AI launched Crysta Studio</a> in public preview for 3D printing from radiance fields.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/solaya-releases-iphone-app-for-mobile-3d-product-capture">Solaya released an iPhone companion app</a> for mobile 3D product capture. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/friendlysplat-launches-an-open-toolkit-for-gaussian-splatting">FriendlySplat launched</a> as an open toolkit for gaussian splatting. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/blurry-adds-level-of-detail-streaming-and-revamps-pricing">Blurry</a> added LOD streaming and revamped pricing. Welcome to everyone for whom this newsletter is their first issue.</p><p>To summarize, Gaussian Splatting is a type of radiance field that enables you to reconstruct lifelike 3D from a series of 2D images or video. I hope you find this newsletter valuable and, if so, please consider sharing it with a friend.</p><p>With that in mind, let&#8217;s take a look at what happened in February.</p><p>Splats hit the global stage, appearing in several Olympic events in Milan, ranging from ski jumping, <a href="https://x.com/GabRoXR/status/2025222307212366200">hockey</a>, and <a href="https://x.com/RadianceFields/status/2022455200846377470">figure skating</a>.</p><p>I don&#8217;t know why this isn&#8217;t a bigger story, but <a href="https://radiancefields.com/playcanvas-announces-supersplat-studio">PlayCanvas released SuperSplat Studio</a>. It&#8217;s a great way to create educational experiences from SuperSplat. They also refined the <a href="https://x.com/willeastcott/status/2026354075353088294">UI of published splats</a>. </p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/otoy-releases-octanerender-2026.2">OTOY released the first update of the year to OctaneRender 2026</a>, which does full path tracing of splats. </p><p>Foundry-owned <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nuke-17.0-officially-ships-with-native-gaussian-splat-support">Nuke officially added gaussian splatting support</a> in version 17.0. This is a massive development for the media and entertainment industry, especially in film. Speaking of which, I spoke to VFX house Proof Inc, who did the previsualization work on <a href="https://radiancefields.com/jurassic-world-rebirth-and-gaussian-splatting">Jurassic World and used gaussian splatting</a>. There are several films and high budget projects currently using gaussian splatting right now and I cannot wait for them to release. </p><p>Arcturus Sports <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7425597574679560193/">released a teaser of what they&#8217;ve been working on</a> and it should blow your mind. I recently completed an interviewed with their CTO and CEO. It should be on the website soon. </p><p>Standardization has become increasingly prevalent. The Khronos Group <a href="https://radiancefields.com/the-khronos-group-introduces-a-gltf-baseline-for-gaussian-splatting">announced a release candidate for glTF 2.0</a> and included a quote from me. Esri also just released <a href="https://radiancefields.com/esri-extends-gaussian-splatting-to-the-web-with-arcgis-maps-sdk-5.0">Version 5 of ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript</a>, supporting gaussian splatting. </p><p>Arrival Space added <a href="https://radiancefields.com/arrival-space-release-2026.2">vibe coding to their gaussian splatting</a> platform. At least to  me. I am seeing so many posts across hobbyists, creators, and professionals across industries. </p><p>With all this in mind, let&#8217;s take a look at what happened in January.</p><p>A$AP Rocky published the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1-46Nu3HxQ">music video for Helicopter</a>, where almost every person is dynamic gaussian splatting. I spoke to most of the people involved in the project to <a href="https://radiancefields.com/a-ap-rocky-releases-helicopter-music-video-featuring-gaussian-splatting">learn how they did it</a>. Later that day the <a href="https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46670024">article hit #1 on Hacker News!</a> </p><p>At CES, NVIDIA unveiled Alpamayo and AlpaSim, the latter of which is powered by 3DGUT. <a href="https://youtube.com/shorts/YmVyNqz4a9I">I spoke to Alpamayo PM Matt Cragun</a> about it! Floaters in all radiance fields are being reduced thanks to <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-announces-ppisp-for-radiance-fields">NVIDIA&#8217;s latest paper, PPISP</a>. Multiple platforms added support within 24 hours!</p><p>GSOPs 2.9 was released and brings <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gsops-2.9-for-houdini-released">official support for Houdini 21</a>. Developer Irrealix added support for <a href="https://radiancefields.com/irrealix-updates-after-effects-and-nuke-plugin-for-gaussian-splatting">Apple&#8217;s SHARP into After Effects</a>. </p><p>On the VR side, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/spatial-fields-releases-v1.2">Spatial Fields just released version 1.2</a>, adding support for XGRIDS LCC format and some amazing dynamic level of detail support. Splatara Scan has continued to ship a bunch of updates to the <a href="https://radiancefields.com/splatara-releases-production-suite">free Quest scanning platform</a>. </p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/xgrids-releases-v1.11-of-lcc-studio">XGRIDS shipped LCC Studio v1.11</a> with PortalCam HD Enhancement plus a broader push toward unifying viewing + editing workflows. If you&#8217;re looking at buying a PortalCam, <a href="https://store.xgrids.com/RADIENCEFIELDS">consider using code RADIANCEFIELDS</a>.</p><p>World Labs introduced the <a href="https://radiancefields.com/world-labs-introduces-world-api-for-marble">World API for Marble</a> and announced the <a href="https://x.com/theworldlabs/status/2011496685277757849">winners of their Winter Challenge.</a></p><p><a href="https://gamesbeat.com/spatial-computing-startup-nucleus4d-announces-1-5-million-pre-seed-round-to-fund-its-goal-of-digitizing-the-world/">Nucleus4D announced a $1.5M funding round</a> (Antler + South Loop Ventures), another indicator that radiance field companies are heading into venture trajectories.</p><p>January also brought several important development advances.</p><p>Lichtfeld Studio continued their steady stream of nightly builds, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/lichtfeld-studio-releases-v0.4">releasing V.4 with </a>one click downloads.  <a href="https://radiancefields.com/arrival-space-releases-version-2026.1">Arrival Space added HDR support</a> and their team seems to be increasing development speed, with some exciting things on the way. DJI expanded their gaussian splatting support beyond Terra, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/dji-flighthub-2-adds-gaussian-splatting-support">bringing splats to FlightHub 2</a>.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/splatstream-pushes-vulkan-based-gaussian-splatting-beyond-vkgs">SplatStream continued pushing Vulkan based</a> Gaussian splatting beyond earlier vkgs efforts. PlayCanvas <a href="https://radiancefields.com/playcanvas-releases-engine-version-2.15">shipped their Engine v2.15</a> and <a href="https://radiancefields.com/splattransform-1.0-released">SplatTransform 1.0</a>. Bitbybit also pushed out <a href="https://radiancefields.com/bitbybit-adds-3dgs-shadows-and-playcanvas-support">new 3DGS shadows support</a>. Meanwhile, Gaussian splatting in <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gaussian-splatting-in-julia-adds-mac-support">Julia gained Mac support</a>, pulling Apple GPUs further into the ecosystem.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/annxstudio-exits-beta-with-v1.1.0-opening-pro-features-through-january">Annx Studio officially left beta</a> and is now a paid service. </p><h2>Gaussian Splatting on YouTube</h2><p>Despite being told for years to start a YouTube channel, I didn&#8217;t start making content until 2025. In this edition, we&#8217;ll take a look at some of the most impactful moments from 2025, paired with a couple thoughts of what we may see in 2026 (it&#8217;s going to be a lot).  </p><h3>Gaussian Splatting out in the World</h3><p>Gaussian Splatting was seriously pushed into everyday workflows and popped up across industries. In 2026, this is going to take another major step forwards, with several corporations that I am aware of planning to either ship or experiment with splats. </p><h4>Media and Entertainment</h4><p>Nearly two years in the making, the <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gaussian-splatting-in-superman">production of Superman</a> dove directly into gaussian splatting and with its release was the first public launch of dynamic gaussian splatting in a major motion picture. </p><p>Gaussian Splatting appeared at the BAFTA&#8217;s from Harry Nelder, who <a href="https://radiancefields.com/radiance-fields-at-the-baftas">captured over 40 of the recent award winners and presenters at this year&#8217;s British Academy Film Awards</a>. From what I understand, Instant-NGP could still reduce training times 5X and double the rendering rates in its current form. </p><p>Radiance Surfaces is an additional two lines of code into Instant NGP and doubles rendering rates yet again and brings surface reconstruction. It still blows my mind how relatively little attention this got.</p><h3>Software Updates:</h3><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/supersplat-unveils-major-updates-2-0-is-here">PlayCanvas shipped SuperSplat 2.0 </a>earlier this year and has become the defacto gaussian splatting editor. </p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/postshot-launches-v1-0-out-of-beta">Postshot has ended their beta and released their 1.0</a>. The software introduces paid tiers. While many people are upset about the paid tiers, keep in mind that he has made the software free for nearly two years and there is still a free option to use Postshot.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/brush-releases-v0-3">Brush released the first formal update</a> to the hardware agnostic platform since the beginning of the year.</p><p>Mark Zuckerberg showed an <a href="https://radiancefields.com/meta-announces-meta-horizon-engine-and-capture">expanded Hyperscape Capture</a> with new scenes that looking stunning. Apps Splatara and OpenQuestCapture let you use your headset to capture and export data. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/spatial-fields-for-apple-vision-pro-released">Spatial Fields launched for the Vision Pro</a>. World Labs released <a href="https://forge.dev/">Gaussian Splatting THREE.js renderer</a>, Spark, which was just named one of the most influential libraries of 2025 by GitHub! </p><p>RealityScan 2.0 (formerly RealityCapture) <a href="https://radiancefields.com/realityscan-2-0-released">got its formal release</a>. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/colmap-3-12-released">COLMAP 3.12 dropped</a>, adding 360 camera support. <a href="https://github.com/nvidia-isaac/pyCuSFM">PyCuSFM released</a> from NVIDIA. </p><p>Varjo released <a href="https://radiancefields.com/varjo-announces-teleport-2-0">V2.0 of Teleport</a> and is offers honestly close to desktop training fidelity. <a href="https://github.com/aws-solutions-library-samples/guidance-for-open-source-3d-reconstruction-toolbox-for-gaussian-splats-on-aws">AWS began offering a cloud based solution</a> for various radiance field representations, including gsplat, 3DGRUT, and more! If you&#8217;ve ever <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7365764369210560513/">wanted to 3D print one of your captures</a>, Cysta.ai is making it happen. They can 3D print .plys or .ingp&#8217;s with honestly great fidelity.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/octanerender-2026-released-and-2027-roadmap-announced">OTOY has released OctaneRender 2026</a>, with full path traced gaussian splats and their 2027 version will feature splats as a native export from synthetic scenes. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nuke-adds-native-gaussian-splatting-support-in-v17-beta">Nuke added Gaussian Splatting support </a>in the open 17.0 beta. Volinga updated both their <a href="https://radiancefields.com/volinga-releases-volinga-plugin-pro-for-unreal-engine">Unreal Engine Plugin</a> and <a href="https://radiancefields.com/volinga-releases-volinga-suite-v0-2-0">Volinga processing Suite</a>.</p><h4>Hardware</h4><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/xgrids-announces-spatial-camera-portalcam">XGRIDS launched their PortalCam</a>, with increased capture fidelity and retailing for $5K. If you&#8217;re looking at buying one and <a href="https://store.xgrids.com/RADIENCEFIELDS">consider using code RADIANCEFIELDS</a>.</p><p>I counted 20 SLAM based scanning companies at Intergeo showcasing gaussian splatting support. Hardware is going to get insane in 2026.</p><h4>Real Estate</h4><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/zillow-adds-gaussian-splatting-support-with-skytour-unveiling">Zillow was the first real estate corporation to formally ship gaussian splatting</a>, adding the capability in SkyTours. CoStar Group owned Apartments.com fired back at Zillow, adding their own exterior <a href="https://radiancefields.com/apartments-com-unveils-matterport-3d-exterior">Gaussian splatting support through Matterport 3D Exteriors</a>. </p><h4>AEC and Geospatial</h4><p>I have spent explaining NeRFs and Gaussian Splatting for the past three years. When I stepped into Intergeo 2025, I realized that was no longer necessary. There was extreme awareness of gaussian splatting, with most vendors either offering it already or excited about its impact on the world. Here are some stories of large geospatial and construction companies embracing the radiance field method. </p><p>Esri added Gaussian Splatting support in ArcGIS Pro 2.6. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/dji-terra-adds-support-for-gaussian-splatting">DJI added gaussian splatting support to Terra</a>. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/pix4d-adds-georeferencing-to-gaussian-splatting-captures">Pix4D Adds Georeferencing</a> to Gaussian Splatting. Bentley Systems <a href="https://radiancefields.com/bentley-itwin-adds-3d-tiles-and-spz-export-for-gaussian-splatting">added experimental Tiles and .spz support</a> to their gaussian splatting implementation in iTwin Modeler. </p><p>3DVista <a href="https://radiancefields.com/3dvista-adds-gaussian-splatting-support">added gaussian splatting support</a>. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/skyline-software-systems-adds-gaussian-splatting-support">Skyline Software Systems Adds Gaussian Splatting</a> Support. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/transforming-aec-with-ai-powered-3d-project-designs">Garver, is using radiance fields to success in AEC</a>. NUBIGON began <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nubigon-adds-gaussian-splatting-support">supporting 3DGS</a>.</p><h4>Autonomous Vehicles</h4><p>A trio of NVIDIA executives gave the keynote address and <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-announces-nurec-libraries-at-siggraph">announced the NuRec library for gaussian splatting support</a> aimed at Phyiscal AI applications in Omniverse and Isaac Sim.</p><p>I profiled <a href="https://radiancefields.com/applied-intuition-s-neural-sim-drives-av-forward">Applied Intuition&#8217;s NeuralSim</a>, powered by Gaussian Splatting. <a href="https://x.com/aelluswamy/status/1981644831790379245">Tesla has also been using gaussian splatting</a>. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/third-dimension-introduces-supersim-simulator-built-from-reality">Third Dimension Introduces SuperSim</a>, Simulator Built From Reality. </p><p>World Foundation Models, such as <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-announces-foundational-world-model-cosmos">NVIDIA&#8217;s Cosmos</a>, are beginning to shift conversation of radiance fields into the world of simulation. When I first began publishing (the three year anniversary was just a couple days ago!), there were very few resources on the internet and so the website was dedicated to changing that. The landscape has changed so much in just the past three months and so the projects I am undertaking are going to reflect that. </p><p>There are two concurrent projects that I am undertaking. One that I think would be quite impactful for the general public&#8217;s awareness of gaussian splatting and a second moonshot project I believe will attract an extreme amount of attention. </p><p>I am now 100% convinced that radiance field representations like gaussian splatting are a fundamental imaging medium and that in 2026 we will see an accelerated shift of imaging into 3D. As a critical mass has begun to be built for 3DGS and how simple it is to capture, process, and distribute,  we&#8217;re entering a moment where 2D imagery will begin, almost imperceptibly, to feel incomplete.</p><p>With all of this in mind, the website and the content that is released will shift towards how radiance fields are being used out in the real world and act as the marketing department for this exciting technology. In addition to also contemplating how content will be created and disseminated over the next 18 months, I am hoping to significantly accelerate its arrival and am taking the steps necessary to facilitate that. </p><p>This is going to be an exciting year. Hopefully the industries highlighted in this newsletter showcase the generalized appeal working in lifelike 3D holds.</p><p>For the first two and a half years of writing on radiancefields.com, I genuinely assumed nobody was reading the publication. Despite having access to all the analytics and social following, I am a team of one and hear feedback less often than you probably imagine. </p><p>Going to conferences this year and meeting people in person was eye opening for me. I am very appreciative of all the readers and supporters of this channel! I am very happy that the website has been a helpful resource for people and to have played a small role in helping spread awareness about lifelike 3D. Incredibly, all of these captures were created by the Quest headset camera! On the <a href="https://radiancefields.com/spatial-fields-for-apple-vision-pro-released">Vision Pro, Spatial Fields</a> just hit the app store.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/brush-releases-v0-3">Brush released the first formal update</a> to the hardware agnostic platform since the beginning of the year. 3DGS in Houdini plugin <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gsops-2-8-released">GSOPs added a new Histogram node</a>. OctaneRender added <a href="https://radiancefields.com/octanerender-releases-cinema4d-version-2026-alpha-3-v1-7-0">gaussian splatting support to Cinema4D Version 2026</a>.</p><p>In Blender, a couple of new Plugins emerged. There was <a href="https://radiancefields.com/new-3dgs-blender-add-on-gauss-cannon">free plugin GaussCannon</a>, in addition to <a href="https://radiancefields.com/kiri-engine-releases-v4-of-3dgs-blender-plugin">V4.0 of KIRI Engine&#8217;s Blender Plugin</a>. </p><p>Game engine <a href="https://radiancefields.com/unigine-adds-gaussian-splatting-support">UNIGINE Adds Gaussian Splatting support</a>. </p><p>I published a trio of interviews with the NVIDIA team at SIGGRAPH. I spoke to <a href="https://youtu.be/GN-H7XTrjQg">VP of Media &amp; Entertainment, Richard Kerris</a>, <a href="https://youtu.be/7wMgKowN7uk">Manager of Neural Reconstruction, Nick Schneider</a>, and <a href="https://youtu.be/AXHgTcPi_n4">Director of NVIDIA Research Shalini DeMello</a>. </p><p>PlayCanvas unveield their newest compression method, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/playcanvas-unveils-spatially-ordered-gaussians">Spatially Ordered Gaussians</a> (Not SOGs). </p><p>On the hardware side, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/dji-announces-mini-5-pro">DJI unveiled the Mini Pro 5 </a>(not available in the US). GreenValley International released the <a href="https://radiancefields.com/greenvalley-unveils-ligrip-o2-slam-scanner">LiGrip O2 SLAM Scanner</a>, and the XGRIDS PortalCam is still hard to beat. I spoke to <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gaussian-splatting-in-superman">Framestore about how every shot of the Kryptonian&#8217;s parents were done with gaussian splatting</a>. While many people are upset about the paid tiers, keep in mind that he has made the software free for nearly two years and there is still a free option to use Postshot.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/playcanvas-v2-11-0-engine-released">PlayCanvas released version two of compression method SOGs</a> and file sizes continue to become shrink, with spherical harmonic support. They are also marching towards a bunch of big improvements to gaussian splatting&#8217;s architecture on the web. </p><p><a href="https://www.newyorker.com/news/as-told-to/a-mother-and-her-trans-teen-decide-to-leave-the-us">Sam Wolson at The New Yorker released a new story</a>, with a much larger gaussian splatting presence. </p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/xgrids-announces-spatial-camera-portalcam">XGRIDS launched their PortalCam</a>, with increased capture fidelity and retailing for $5K. It runs on both desktop and mobile. </p><p>Leading geospatial company, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/esri-announces-gaussian-splatting-in-arcgis-3-6">Esri, also announced they will support gaussian splatting within ArcGIS</a>. They have the capability of large scale reconstructions on city scale and larger! <a href="https://radiancefields.com/dji-terra-adds-support-for-gaussian-splatting">DJI added gaussian splatting support to Terra</a>, its geospatial software. Their implementation can process up to 30,000 images per training run.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/krpano-1-23-adds-gaussian-splatting-support">krpano added gaussian splatting support</a> to their viewer and it&#8217;s a great tool! It&#8217;s easy to use with powerful features. If you&#8217;re looking for a way to create narratives with gaussian splatting, it&#8217;s a great choice. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/arrival-space-releases-v-81">Arrival Space released version .81</a>, adding spatial sounds, in addition to revamping the content layers, making it much easier to navigate the backend.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/gracia-releases-vr-gaussian-splatting-on-mac">Gracia added a native viewer for Mac</a>. GSOPs added support for both <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gsops-2-6-adds-3dgs-support-for-solaris-and-karma">Karma and Solaris rendering within Houdini</a>.</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/instant-ngp-2-0-released">NVIDIA released Instant NGP 2.0</a>. Rendering rates are radically increased, all the way up to and past one hundred fps for some captures for me. Additionally training times are also 1.5X faster. This is a big deal!</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/gsplat-1-5-3-released-by-nerfstudio">Nerfstudio released gsplat 1.5.3</a>, bringing all major APIs, including 3DGS, 2DGS, and 3DGUT, have been updated to handle multiple batch dimensions. They also released <a href="https://github.com/nerfstudio-project/viser/releases">Viser 1.0</a>!</p><p>Postshot has added a ton of new features this month, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/postshot-adds-april-tag-support">including April Tag support</a>. <a href="https://www.jawset.com/public_download/jawset.postshot/win/">Postshot can be accessed here</a>. </p><p><a href="https://github.com/aws-solutions-library-samples/guidance-for-open-source-3d-reconstruction-toolbox-for-gaussian-splats-on-aws">AWS began offering a cloud based solution</a> for various radiance field representations, including gsplat, 3DGRUT, and more! <a href="https://radiancefields.com/playcanvas-launches-splattransform">Play Canvas has launched Splat Transform</a>, serving as an easy command line conversion tool for 3DGS. <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gaussian-splatting-in-vrchat">VRChat added gaussian splatting support</a> thanks to developer Mykhail Moroz. </p><p>I sat down with Visual Features editor at <a href="https://radiancefields.com/gaussian-splatting-at-the-new-yorker">The New Yorker, Sam Wolson,</a> to profile how he&#8217;s been using gaussian splatting in journalism. </p><h4>Videos and Content:</h4><p>Did you know that <a href="https://youtu.be/gXug7Kb3p4I">Google Maps has supported radiance fields for the past two years</a>? Odyssey showed the <a href="https://radiancefields.com/odyssey-unveils-interactive-video">first public preview of their Interactive Video</a>. <a href="https://experience.odyssey.world/">Try it for two minutes at a time</a>! New generative 3D company, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/generative-3d-company-spaitial-launches-with-13m-in-seed-funding">SpAItial</a>, launches with $13M in seed funding.</p><p>Veesus makes it easier to remove sky and tree floaters with Radiance Clear. They also added <a href="https://radiancefields.com/veesus-adds-rhino-support-for-3dgs">3DGS support for their Rhino plugin</a>. 3DVista added <a href="https://radiancefields.com/3dvista-adds-compressed-3dgs-and-spz-support">compressed ply and SPZ Support</a>. Volinga pushed out an update their <a href="https://radiancefields.com/volinga-releases-ue-plugin-v0-5-1">Unreal Engine plugin</a>. NUBIGON began <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nubigon-adds-gaussian-splatting-support">supporting 3DGS in their latest release</a>.</p><p>Spatial Fields is a <a href="https://radiancefields.com/spatial-fields-free-apple-vision-pro-3dgs-with-sh">new VR 3DGS app for the Vision Pro</a> that supports spherical harmonics.</p><p>New cloud based 3DGS platform, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/parallax-3d-cloud-based-3dgs">Parallax 3D released</a>. People who have been wanting an more friendly way to <a href="https://radiancefields.com/annx-studio-gaussian-splatting-on-mac">train 3DGS on Mac can check out ANNX Studio</a>. Blurry is <a href="https://www.useblurry.com/">making sharing captures easier</a>. </p><p>XGRIDS had a few exciting releases. Speaking of NVIDIA, I published an <a href="https://radiancefields.com/interview-with-rev-lebaredian-simulation-robotics-and-the-future-of-imaging">interview with VP of Simulation and Omniverse, Rev Lebaredian</a>. </p><p>Varjo released <a href="https://radiancefields.com/varjo-announces-teleport-2-0">V2.0 of Teleport</a> and is now offering honestly close to desktop training fidelity. Reflct open sourced a <a href="https://radiancefields.com/sharp-frames-python-released">Python version of their Sharp Frames selector</a>, expanding the options for people on Mac, AMD, and Intel for fast image selection!</p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/arrival-space-receives-several-updates">Arrival.Space</a> has put out a bunch of updates to their platform. Ecommerce 3DGS app, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/doly-launches-shopify-plugin">Doly has added a Shopify plugin</a>.</p><p>Unreal Engine was a hot topic last month with a plugin update from Volinga. Japan based <a href="https://radiancefields.com/preferred-networks-inc-announces-3dgs-unreal-engine-5-plugin">Preferred Networks also announced a 3DGS UE 5 plugin</a> that brings awesome features such as relighting, shadow casting and high speed rendering. </p><p><a href="https://radiancefields.com/xgrids-launches-lixel-cybercolor-studio-1-7">XGRIDS release LCC Studio 1.7</a>, bringing HD enhancement and the ability to pair drone footage with captures! XGRIDS competitor <a href="https://radiancefields.com/3dmakerpro-adds-3dgs-support-for-raystudio">3DMakerPro added Gaussian Splatting support</a> to their platform, Raystudio. </p><p>Former Luma employee Jakub &#268;erven&#253; released <a href="https://splatter.app/s/hlb-tag">Splatter.app</a>, which has progressive loading and level of detail already implemented. During its beta period, he is allowing unlimited ply uploads, so take advantage of it while it lasts! Scaniverse said they are currently at 50,000 captures, with more rising every day. They also have been blitzing out media awareness, with Niantic SVP Brian McClendon sitting down with <a href="https://www.fastcompany.com/91284839/niantic-unveils-quest-app-to-explore-3d-images-from-around-the-world">Fast Company</a>. The cover gif also happened to be <a href="https://scaniverse.com/scan/s5jeb3b5ppnba4kg">one that I took</a> during coverage of the <a href="https://radiancefields.com/radiance-fields-in-the-elizabeth-street-garden">Elizabeth Street Garden</a>. </p><p>PlayCanvas&#8217;s SuperSplat has been on fire, shipping SuperSplat 2.0. Several new features are now here, with a Discover Page, camera keyframes, tonemapping, and more! Access 2.0 on their new domain at <a href="http://superspl.at">superspl.at</a> and the editor at <a href="https://superspl.at/editor">https://superspl.at/editor</a>.</p><p>Polycam made &#8220;<a href="https://poly.cam/vision-25">their biggest announcement ever</a>&#8221;, but if you were able to discern exactly what was announced, please let me know. Their video content was catered to Enterprise customers, but the tone more towards indie content creators?</p><p>Miris showed the first public teaser of their <a href="https://radiancefields.com/miris-shows-spatial-streaming-preview">ability to stream Radiance Fields</a> and other next gen content. </p><p>And the BAFTA goes to Harry Nelder, who <a href="https://radiancefields.com/radiance-fields-at-the-baftas">captured over 40 of the recent award winners and presenters at this year&#8217;s British Academy Film Awards</a>. Nelder used a combination of his own cloud processing engine, paired with Postshot. </p><p><a href="https://youtube.com/shorts/iFDnBT8fptM?si=yYi3kcPAK_A_oK8j">https://youtube.com/shorts/iFDnBT8fptM?si=yYi3kcPAK_A_oK8j</a></p><p>There were TWO Sutro Tower projects that released this month, highlighting its 50th anniversary. (<a href="https://vincentwoo.com/3d/sutro_tower/">First</a> and <a href="https://explore.sutrotower.com">Second</a>)</p><p>In Denver, GeoWeek 2025 took place and there was an immense amount of interest in Gaussian Splatting. I gave two talks and was surprised by the level of interest. Simultaneously, Photogrammetry powerhouse, <a href="https://radiancefields.com/pix4d-adds-gaussian-splatting">Pix4D announced 3DGS support</a>.</p><p>NVIDIA&#8217;s GTC is just a couple weeks away now and there are a few talks revolving around Radiance Fields. I&#8217;ll be giving <a href="https://www.nvidia.com/gtc/session-catalog/?regcode=pa-srch-goog-905015-prsp&amp;ncid=pa-srch-goog-905015-prsp&amp;tab.catalogallsessionstab=16566177511100015Kus&amp;search=Esri#/session/1725038753131001Q4oX">one of those talks</a>, so please reach out if you&#8217;ll be attending! My co-panelist, <a href="https://www.esri.com/en-us/industries/blog/articles/geoai-reality-capture-and-the-future-of-digital-twins/">Patrick Wallis from ESRI wrote up a blog about the intersection of GeoAI and Radiance Fields</a>. I&#8217;ve also heard rumors about Radiance Field demos taking place onsite, so keep an eye out. </p><p>Chaos V-Ray has continued to roll out platform support for 3DGS, this month it was for <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHpn3rkovhE">SketchUp</a> and <a href="https://youtu.be/lsjUNfxKnrI?si=KGeJjdAUFGhaWIow">Rhino</a>. </p><p>There have been three new radiance field representations to start the year! The newest ones have been <a href="https://radfoam.github.io/">Radiant Foam</a>, <a href="https://svraster.github.io/">SV Raster</a>, and <a href="https://nicolasvonluetzow.github.io/LinPrim/">LinPrim</a>. VRAM usage continues to plummet in dynamic reconstructions. </p><p>We got a sneak peak into some of the preeminent reconstruction companies, such as Bentley Systems, Hexagon, Microsoft, and Meta at the Metaverse Standards Forum meeting. </p><div id="youtube2-0xdPpKSkO3I" class="youtube-wrap" data-attrs="{&quot;videoId&quot;:&quot;0xdPpKSkO3I&quot;,&quot;startTime&quot;:null,&quot;endTime&quot;:null}" data-component-name="Youtube2ToDOM"><div class="youtube-inner"><iframe src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/0xdPpKSkO3I?rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;enablejsapi=0" frameborder="0" loading="lazy" gesture="media" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowautoplay="true" allowfullscreen="true" width="728" height="409"></iframe></div></div><p>NVIDIA also announced <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-to-open-source-3dgrt-and-3dgut">they will open source both 3D Gaussian Ray Tracing (this is not Gaussian Splatting) and 3D Gaussian Unscented Transform</a>. These papers are both big deals and I hope that NVIDIA will release them, soon.</p><p>Instant-NGP creator, <a href="https://tom94.net/index.php">Thomas M&#252;ller</a>, quietly added Blackwell and DLSS 4 support to Instant-NGP. While I don&#8217;t have access to the newest generation of cards, I will be curious to see how DLSS 4 affects NeRF rendering rates. I would pay very close attention to neural rendering capabilities over the course of this year. </p><p>World Foundation Models, such as <a href="https://radiancefields.com/nvidia-announces-foundational-world-model-cosmos">NVIDIA&#8217;s recently announced Cosmos</a>, are beginning to shift conversation of radiance fields into the world of simulation. There&#8217;s no word yet when Postshot will leave its free beta phase.</p><p>There was another exciting forum on Radiance Fields, this time it was a <a href="https://www.mpeg.org/joint-jpeg-mpeg-workshop-on-radiance-fields/">joint workshop from JPEG and MPEG</a>. I was also fortunate enough to speak, alongside Eunbyung Park, Davi Lazzarotto, Yiyi Liao, and Professor Angjoo Kanazawa.
