           Testing the CROVER in Italy with agROBOfood...

           At the beginning of the year, we were busy packing for an expedition as part of Crover’s involvement in the agROBOfood project. A small team from our office left Edinburgh to evaluate the current version of the CROVER system at a number of test sites at several different locations across Italy. The two weeks worth of testing we undertook in Italy were hugely successful for Crover and  gave us lots to work with going forward.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The first stop was near Pavia not far from Milan in the north of Italy and a province notable for its rice production. From there, Crover moved east into the region of Veneto - famous for its large-scale production of soy, corn and other grains. Veneto is also known for its storage capacity, reflected in the considerable numbers of different sheds and silos in the area. Some sheds make use of grain levellers intended to keep the grain in order and optimise conditions. Surveying different storage configurations like these is very useful as it will allow us to ensure that the CROVER system can be installed without interrupting existing operations.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Nearing the end of the trip, Crover moved south along the east coast of Italy to the penultimate test site in the region of Molise, known for production of various types of wheat, including the hard durum wheat used in pasta. The final site we visited was located further south near Altamura, where the bread known as Pane di Altamura originates.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
            
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The time Crover spent testing in Italy was a great success, demonstrating that the current systems are operating well and that good progress has been made. Over the next few months we will be working hard to implement what we have learned, before our eventual return to Italy for more testing in the summer.            Early in March our founder, Lorenzo Conti, spoke to Ditsa Keren in an interview for DeliveryRank, the online food system service reviewer. Lorenzo elaborated on the origins of Crover, the benefits the system offers and what is on the horizon for Crover in 2022.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           The physical phenomenon known as the ‘Crover effect’ - which allows for locomotion within granular media - was first discovered by Lorenzo while working towards his PhD. In the interview Lorenzo talks about how Crover is leveraging this discovery to help grain storage operators maintain the quality of their stock. The data provided by the CROVER will enable early detection and treatment of hotspots and infestations, reducing losses as a result.

            Lorenzo also touched on Crover’s plans for 2022 and the immediate future. Currently, Crover is aiming for delivery of the first units of the Crover to begin in the summer, coinciding with the harvest cycle.            Europe’s leading events for arable farming

            - where we were able to talk face-to-face with farmers at our first physical event for many months. Around this time we also received recognition from Corporate Vision Magazine at their Technology Innovator Awards 2021, who named us the

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="https://www.corporatevision-news.com/winners/crover/" target="_blank"&gt;&#xD;
      
           Most Innovative Robotics and Automation Development Company

            in the UK. In late July, as Crover’s crowdfunding campaign surpassed £200k in funding, Lorenzo spoke alongside Pete Gwilt of Crowdcube about the merits of crowdfunding at an

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           It was thus that 2021 came to a close. We would like to thank all those who had our back and supported us throughout the year. As a company we have come on leaps and bounds: from the recruitment of many new, talented team members that are propelling us forwards; to the numerous improvements made to the product, each of which bring us closer to its commercial deployment at grain storage sites in the UK, Europe and beyond. 2021 was another great year for Crover and we have emerged from it stronger and more mature than before. We now look forward to the heights we will have to scale in 2022, both with excitement and with anticipation.

           departed for Paris, the newly-formed Crover Marketing Team - comprising several new and talented employees - were asked to help design the display stand. Thousands of big players would be walking past the Crover stall on the show floor so our display needed something outside the box to draw these attendees in. As well as Crover-branded pin badges and stickers, for the stall we also produced new business cards and bespoke 3D-printed Crover keyrings. In the photographs below, there can be seen our Crover stand at Hello Tomorrow, complete with miniature models of the entire grain storage chain process and lastly, a working Crover prototype sitting a typical grain bulk.

           ello Tomorrow’s 2021 Global Summit gathered hundreds of today’s innovators and disruptors together in one location to share their visions for the future of their respective industries and fields. Crover, a dynamic force and innovator in the field of robotics and agri-tech, was selected from among 4000 global applications to be a finalist at Hello Tomorrow’s 2021 Global Summit. And so it was that our founder, Lorenzo Conti, and Gianlorenzo De Santis found themselves in Paris in early December. Throughout the event, they engaged with event attendees and spoke with countless leading lights in several crucial fields. Many great conversations were had at our Crover stand as Lorenzo and Gianlorenzo spoke about the paths we have chosen to get here and where we are going next.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Crover proved a big hit at Hello Tomorrow 2021. Attendees were eager to hear more about our mission to help reduce post-harvest losses and to enable humanity to reach below the surface. Our stand on the show floor and all of the work that went into it helped us promote Crover to a wider international audience than before. The positive reception for Crover did not stop there however. Our founder, Lorenzo Conti took to the floor of the main stage at Hello Tomorrow to deliver a significant address that touched on Crover’s purpose, its ethos and the achievables we are targeting going forward. These are prestigious accolades that we will take with us as we continue our journey to help grain storage operators reduce their post-harvest losses.

           Following the success of crowdfunding, we have continued Crover's development and showcased our current progress  to some world-leading events.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

            Earlier this month, amongst 9 other Agri-Tech finalists, we made it to the final stage of the
           &#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Food Tech Challenger
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            competition. The CROVER has been recognized for its climate-smart technology and ability to improve the grain value chain.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           Secondly, we have participated in ‘

           Each year, millions of tons of grain are lost due to spoilage caused by poor storage conditions. This waste doesn’t just impact farmers—it strains the global food supply chain. But Dr. Lorenzo Conti, founder of CROVER, may have found a solution to this costly problem.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           CROVER has developed the world’s first subterranean drone, designed specifically to help grain storage operatorsmonitor and maintain the quality of their stock. Unlike traditional methods, which require farmers to walk across grain piles with heavy probes—posing both safety risks and limited data collection—CROVER’s robot “swims through grain” to collect real-time data on temperature and moisture levels.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This innovative approach not only reduces spoilage but also saves time and labor costs, enabling operators to proactively manage grain quality and prevent losses before they occur.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           While CROVER is currently focused on centralized grain storage facilities operated by merchants and ports, future versions of the technology could be adapted for on-farm use, making it more accessible to individual farmers.

           We are pleased to announce the reach of the funding target of £150K for our first equity crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube, with 20 days left to invest, with the campaign now being in “overfunding” mode.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           After “bootstrapping”, raising more than £600k in innovation prizes and grants (including the likes of Scottish Enterprise and Innovate UK), Crover opened a seed funding round accessible to seasoned and new investors that want to be part of a pioneering, multi-award-winning company.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Crover will use these funds to advance the development of the Crover and to reach small series manufacturing, which will help with the set-up of additional pilots in the UK, EU, and potentially the US by next year.

          We’re pleased to announce that Crover, one of the finalists of the 2020 Chivas Venture Global Competition, has received its share of this year’s $1 million prize; due to the current COVID-19 global pandemic, the prize money has been equally distributed among the 26 participants before the Global Final so each business can focus on creating positive impact.

          At the 13th awards ceremony for Scottish EDGE, Scotland's largest entrepreneurial competition, Crover has won a Wild Card EDGE award. The award consists of a £10k grant and it will help the company begin the first on-site tests for parts of its product's components and to hire its first employees. We very much look forward for the the impact this will have in the coming months!

          The Climate Launchpad global Grand Final, the world's largest clean-tech business ideas competition, with shortlisted finalists from 45 different countries competing, was hosted for the first time ever in Scotland by the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation. McEwan Hall was the majestic venue chosen for this important occasion.
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          Thanks to the Crover team and the fantastic support from everyone around us, it also became Scotland's first time to have a team making it in the top 3, with Crover receiving the 3rd prize and wowing the globally connected audience both on site and those streaming the event live.
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          ClimateKIC's CEO Kirsten Dunlop had compliments to spare for Crover's solution, saying it "will make us rethink the whole food storage system".
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          This gives us even more confidence that Crover's commercial success will go much beyond the national boundaries of Scotland! We'd like to thank everyone who keeps supporting us, and we look forward to making you all even prouder!

          At the annual Converge Challenge awards dinner, Crover's innovation was awarded the Kickstart award for best early stage startup!

          Every year, Converge Challenge recognises the top startups to come out of Scottish Universities.

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          With the award, Crover also helped The University of Edinburgh reach it's first ever hat-trick in the competition, with all first place winners in each main category of the competition (Challenge, Kickstart, Social Enterprise) coming from the University.

          In the magnificent Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI) Crover triumphed in the Scottish national final of ClimateLaunchpad, the top global competition for green business ideas.
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          This means Crover will be heading to the global final in November as the #1 Scottish entry and will be competing with startups from 45 countries for the top prize. Coincidentally this year the final will be taking place in Edinburgh for the first time ever, so we hope to give Scotland even greater reasons for celebration while the world eyes will be pointed at The University of Edinburgh's McEwan Hall!

          The latest eClub Startup Festival recently took place in Edinburgh, figuring prominent entrepreneurial speakers and events throughout the day.
          &#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    
          During the event our Founder Lorenzo Conti got to talk about Crover in front of a very excited audience, impressing the judges enough to be crowned winner of the Novel Ideas competition.

                    First competition, first award! Crover has started well its path to success by winning the November round of the Fresh Ideas competition. Crover, together with other highly commended businesses, will now move on to the Scottish final of Fresh Ideas. Let's hope this is the first of many successes!
