From concept to engineering: hydrogen production at sea is entering real implementation. This week in Pisa, we hosted Mike Mackay and Nick Williams from DRIFT Energy Ltd for the first marinization workshop of our joint project – together with our team including Giulio Telleschi, Ruben Furi and Gianluca Magagnini. The focus: bringing Enapter’s modular Multi-Core electrolyzers into maritime applications. That means working through real engineering challenges: – integrating hydrogen production systems onboard offshore vessels – managing dynamic operation with variable renewable inputs – aligning system design with maritime certification processes – including RINA in line with IMO requirements This is where hydrogen projects move from concept to implementation. Enapter’s modular #AEM architecture is designed for exactly this phase – enabling scalable systems that can be adapted to complex, real-world environments. The moment a hydrogen project moves from plans to physical reality. At the Hydrogen Valley in Acerra, that moment is now visible on site. The Grastim JV Balance of Plant has officially arrived – marking a significant step into the project’s execution phase. Seeing key equipment on the ground is when projects start to become tangible, and this marks meaningful progress for a highly promising initiative. This solar-powered green hydrogen project, promoted by So.F. Invest, is the result of a strong partnership, built around shared ambition and close coordination: Enapter is supplying the #AEM #Nexus 1000 (1 MW), Simplifhy as our trusted partner for engineering and system integration, Grastim JV delivering the Balance of Plant, and Hydrogen Refueling Solutions - HRS providing compression and storage. With the Balance of Plant now on site, and additional auxiliaries expected by the end of April, the project continues to move steadily toward commissioning and the next execution phases. Building your own energy system is one thing. Running operations on it is another. Last week, our CEO Jürgen Laakmann visited JP Landgoed in Limpopo, South Africa – a mandarin farm that is building exactly that. Together with founder Cobus Beetge and our partner TKS Solar Group, the team has been working for over five years on a clear goal: A farm that can operate independently of the grid. Today, the system already includes: ~1 MW of solar PV Battery storage A private electricity network across 300 hectares This reliably covers day-to-day operations. But the real challenge is seasonal. During packing season: Energy demand increases sharply Packing lines run continuously Workforce grows from ~150 to 300+ Instead of oversizing the entire system, the approach is different. Excess solar energy is converted into hydrogen and stored. During peak demand, it is converted back into electricity via fuel cells. Hydrogen becomes the missing link between: renewable generation and operational reliability. Why is this relevant? Because in many regions, stable energy supply is not guaranteed. And for growing businesses, resilience is not optional. What stands out is how this system was built: Step by step – from generation to storage to future use in mobility. This is not a theoretical concept. It’s a working blueprint for how decentralized energy systems can scale with real operational demand. The Wilo Group didn't wait for the energy transition. They built it. At their Wilopark in Dortmund, 96 Enapter AEM electrolyzers convert surplus solar power into green hydrogen – stored on site and turned back into electricity when needed. 520 kg hydrogen storage. 3 MWp PV. 76.5 kW fuel cell.
