Gartner's CMO Spend Survey puts paid media at 31% of enterprise marketing budgets. The largest single allocation, and growing. Martech, the category that includes personalization, CRO, and lifecycle infrastructure, has fallen to 22%. That’s a 10-year low. We built a metric to measure what that imbalance actually looks like by industry. We call it the Acquire-to-Convert Spend Ratio: every dollar spent bringing traffic in, divided by every dollar spent converting it once it arrives. - P&C Insurance: ~7:1. - Retail Banking: ~6:1. - Life Insurance and Wealth: ~4:1. - The top-performing companies in our study: ~2:1. The companies closest to 2:1 consistently had the best personalization outcomes, not because they spent more, but because they rebalanced where it went. The funnel isn't broken. It's underfunded on the wrong end.

Back when I was running Meta ads for CPG brands, a single campaign could drive thousands of clicks a day. Same landing page for all of them. The person who clicked an ad about "bulk savings for your family" and the one who clicked "delivered fresh to your door"...same page, headline, and CTA. We called it "the funnel." That's a wrap at The Financial Brand 2026. Three days in Las Vegas, surrounded by some of the sharpest minds in BFSI marketing and growth. We had the chance to meet incredible CMOs and digital leaders from banks and credit unions across the country, people openly talking about what’s hard, not just what’s working. The kind of conversations you simply don’t get on Zoom or Google Meet...real, honest and unhurried. What stood out most: the industry isn’t lacking awareness. Teams know what needs to change. The intent to build better digital experiences is there. The investment is there. But most are still figuring out where to actually start. We had hundreds of conversations at our booth — some quick, some deep. And honestly, that’s the most interesting place to be in a market like this. This is just getting started.
