Everyone is racing to build autonomous vehicles. But an autonomous vehicle in traffic is still in traffic. That’s the mistake. Driverless cars won’t solve traffic. They’ll add to it. This Bloomberg piece by David Zipper lays it out: more autonomous vehicles mean more trips, more empty miles, and more congestion on already crowded streets. They are not the solution.
