Hi! We’ve been expanding format support in l10n.dev Localization is hard not because translating text is difficult - AI already does that well. The real challenge is everything around it: - preserving file structure and syntax - keeping placeholders and variables intact - respecting format-specific rules - avoiding changes to already tested translations This is exactly where AI becomes more powerful than traditional approaches - not just translating, but understanding and adapting to the format, making safe, context-aware updates instead of blind string replacement. Here’s what we focused on: ✅ Multiple formats supported From JSON / JSONC to XML, YAML, ARB, PO, XLIFF, and more - covering modern frontend, backend, and localization ecosystems. ✅ Format compliance double-check Every translation is validated against the source format. This means: - structure is preserved - placeholders stay intact - no broken builds because of malformed output ✅ Safe incremental updates (JSON-based formats) For JSON formats, l10n.dev supports translating only new strings. Translating OpenAPI Schemas — Now Supported in l10n.dev 🚀 Our AI-powered service has been updated to support this workflow more naturally. 🔍 l10n.dev now automatically detects OpenAPI schemas (based on the openapi property), validates the structure, and translates only the parts that are meant to be human-readable — while preserving the exact schema format. The AI understands what should and should not be translated: Field names, enums, states, and status values remain untouched Only descriptions, summaries, and message text are localized The service also preserves JSON data types during translation — numbers stay numbers, booleans stay booleans, null stays null — ensuring the translated spec remains valid and safe to use in production.
