This past week, students from the School of Computing shone at Avant South’s Innovation Cup. Arjun Sakthi, Hadiza Sarr, and Matt Mocklin, alongside their Georgia Tech teammate, developed Tera—a human-led, AI-assisted travel platform that connects tourists and residents with verified local hosts for authentic travel experiences. Simultaneously, Jasmine Nguyen, a Data Science student, and her “Unity Field” team tackled the same eight-day challenge. Their project focused on bringing the 2026 World Cup to residents unable to attend in person due to high costs. They pioneered a website that brings families together to create soccer hubs, delivering the World Cup experience directly to their homes. The Tera team secured First Place, earning a $7,500 prize and the People’s Choice Award, while “Unity Field” took Third Place and a $1,500 award for Best Website UI/UX. The Avant South's Innovation Cup had nearly three hundred original applications for the competition, representing a dozen Georgia colleges and universities.
