This past week, students from the School of Computing shone at Avant South’s Innovation Cup. Arjun Sakthi, Hadiza Sarr, and Matt Mocklin, alongside their Georgia Tech teammate, developed Tera—a human-led, AI-assisted travel platform that connects tourists and residents with verified local hosts for authentic travel experiences.   Simultaneously, Jasmine Nguyen, a Data Science student, and her “Unity Field” team tackled the same eight-day challenge. Their project focused on bringing the 2026 World Cup to residents unable to attend in person due to high costs. They pioneered a website that brings families together to create soccer hubs, delivering the World Cup experience directly to their homes.   The Tera team secured First Place, earning a $7,500 prize and the People’s Choice Award, while “Unity Field” took Third Place and a $1,500 award for Best Website UI/UX.   The Avant South's Innovation Cup had nearly three hundred original applications for the competition, representing a dozen Georgia colleges and universities.  Congratulations to both teams for your creative and innovative solutions.

  • We're excited to announce that Traders@UGA is hosting its first-ever open meeting tomorrow (10/9)! Join us in Boyd 0204 at 6:30 PM to learn more about our club, quantitative finance, recruiting opportunities, and to play fun trading games with prizes! We look forward to seeing you there!

  • This past week at Traders@UGA, we played a trading card game designed to simulate market strategies, negotiations, and fast-paced decision-making! Traders started with a limited hand of cards and a single hidden rule, then spent 15 minutes trading, bluffing, and strategizing to build the highest-value hands based on the rules they uncovered. The game really highlighted the importance of information, timing, and teamwork. We even had a “shop” where traders could purchase additional cards or information to gain an edge. Congrats to Vikas Katari for winning with 108 points! A big thank you to DRW for sending us some awesome merch, it made the day even more memorable! We’re always looking for new ways to bring trading concepts to life for our members, and this game was a huge hit. Can’t wait for more sessions like this!
