He's an engineer. He just wants to build things. Cars. Rockets. Tunnels. - Congress woman from California decides to tweet “F*ck Elon Musk”. He replies, "message received" and moves his companies to Texas. - Twitter censors (de-platforms) the sitting President. Free speech is at risk. - Biden gets elected. He holds an "EV summit" and invites every car maker. Except Tesla (you know, the one company who actually makes all the electric cars in America). Instead of helping the greatest American entrepreneur of our lifetime. They pump the brakes. Government depts start getting handsy like it's a house party at Diddy's. He buys Twitter for $44B. Walks in carrying a sink. Rahul Ligma star is born. He releases the Twitter files proving the democrats were actively censoring the media. Fires 80% of the staff, and takes a picture with the remaining crew of H-1B All Stars. Advertisers boycott. Twitter revenue drops 80%. He's down $20B. Then - the state revokes his $56B pay package (that he earned by hitting every metric that analysts thought was impossible) Retroactively revoked $56B because a guy who owned 9 shares of Tesla sued him. So what does he do? Elon goes ALL IN on Trump for 3 months. He sets up camp in Philly. Starts giving speeches. Gives away $1M per day. Town Halls on X. Gets him on Joe Rogan. The richest, busiest man in the world - decides to become an unpaid volunteer for Trump. Why take the risk? What if Trump lost? The democrats already didn't like him. Now they would HATE him. Conventional wisdom: it's a tossup. Why go all in on a coin flip? This is what he does. The Elon Method: 1. Figure out what is the most Existential Problem 2. Identify the key lever (eg. PA swing state) 3. Go all in. Burn all boats. Throw your entire weight at it. If you play - play to win. If he plays it safe. Nothing changes. More regulation. More lawfare. Most people see 50/50 and think: "don't risk my neck". He saw the opposite: 50/50 meant he could tilt the odds single handedly. What did he have to gain? 1/ A giant "i owe you" from Trump...who is the most openly "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" candidate you'll ever see 2/ A pro-tech, pro-business, e/acc government 3/ The tears of his enemies He spent $150M - but his companies are worth $1T If this tilts the playing field back to even. That $150M spent will generate $10B++ in gains. +EV decision. People mix up likeability for credibility. You don't have to like his jokes, or his opinions. But he is undeniably the greatest entrepreneur of our lifetime. This chess analogy sums up the last 4 years for Elon: "it doesn't matter if you're mate in 3...If there's a laser beam from space that shoots down your opponent's king, you win" Well, checkmate. -Shaan

In fact, it's been looking like a big ol' middle finger, pointing straight up at me. But you know what? I'm not mad about it . In fact, I'm kind of proud 🤗. You see, six years ago when I left my high-paying 9-to-5 job to become an indie maker and start my own business from scratch, a lot of people thought I was crazy 🤪. They said I was throwing away a good thing, that I was foolish to take such a risk. Well, that middle finger on my revenue graph is my way of saying, "I'm doing just fine, thank you very much!" Sure, it hasn't been easy. There have been times when I've doubted myself, when I've wondered if I made the right decision. But then I look at that middle finger and I think, "Hell yeah, I'm doing something that scares me, and I'm doing it well." My microstartups are now making seven times more than what I used to make in my old job. Taking a risk paid off in a big way 💸👌. So to all those who thought I was an idiot for leaving my comfortable job to pursue my dreams, I say this: You can stick your doubts and your skepticism where the sun don't shine, because I'm making it work. And to everyone else who's out there taking risks and chasing their dreams, even when it feels like the odds are against you, I say this: Keep going 🏃♂️. Keep pushing 💪. And when your revenue graph starts to look like a middle finger, take it as a sign that you're on the right track. Has anyone underestimated you like this? would love to read what others have faced! In a viral post titled “Finally decided to leave India,” the techie shared how years of disillusionment with the country’s governance and justice system led him to the decision. “I was always against moving abroad and wanted to do good for my motherland. But recent events made me realise the dire state of our bureaucracy and judiciary — where an honest, tax-paying individual will always face injustice because someone with a pen and authority can destroy you without any consequences,” he wrote. Expressing anger over India’s governance structure, he added: “We are just being used for getting money — first in the form of taxes, then in the form of bribes.” He concluded his post with a sense of resignation: “I can’t live in fear that someone can file a false case or FIR just to threaten me. I didn’t study so hard for this. It nails five deeply complex challenges, all at the planetary scale. I have wanted to pen this for a while now. It’s a rare example of a product that combines technical, operational and experiential mastery - and sustains it for decades. 1. Tackles meticulously one of the most complex problems in software development - domain modelling of an ambiguous system into a structured representation, that optimizes for all the subsequent operations to be done on top of it. Think about representing the messiness of the real world, even in situations where no one official truth exists (disputed country boundaries, postal code grids, colloquial locality names, etc.) 2. Sourcing accurate, time-sensitive and rapidly changing data from multiple signals conveying real-world status to overlay on the complex domain model (road closures, one-ways, public transport timings & delays, street view, etc.). Validation & accuracy of this directly impact trust; even a single failure can erode it irreparably. 3. Executing complex, data-intensive, optimised algorithms - dealing with conflicting signals and dynamically changing on-ground situation - at extremely high concurrency with millisecond precision on search retrievals, route generation, etc. This lies at the heart of giving accurate, non-misleading info - getting that wrong can be life-threatening, at its worst. 4. Ingesting billions of data update requests in real time (location updates, reviews, weather signals, traffic lights, etc.) and processing those for intelligent assistance to millions of users in their local context (bike routes, route waypoint announcements, route re-tracing, displaying traffic conditions, etc.) 5. Brilliantly wrapping all this complexity inside a neat, intuitive interface - hiding this machinery behind an experience that feels like gliding over the planet. 20 years ago, it was the pioneer in using AJAX, and forever pushed the boundaries of what a web-based experience can feel like. Every great product hides deep complexity behind user ease. Few do it this elegantly. It’s a reminder that true simplicity isn’t the absence of complexity, it’s mastery over it. Google Maps surpasses the value proposition of mere convenience/efficiency to become mission-critical for its users. What other products come close to this level of multidimensional excellence?

I loved the infrastructure 🏙️, the roads 🛣️… but the subtle racism 😒 was impossible to ignore. One incident stands out: I spoke to a girl who was curious about India 🇮🇳. She seemed genuinely interested. The next day, I greeted her in a group… and she ignored me completely 😶. Apparently, acknowledging me in front of others was a “status problem.” Moments like this made it clear - many white Americans unconsciously look down on brown people from “third-world countries.” This is one reason I decided I will never live and work in the US ❌🏡. Even if it means dealing with broken roads, corrupt politicians, and failing infrastructure, I choose to stay in India and contribute here 💪🇮🇳. Many Indians in the US are struggling right now 😔. But I have zero sympathy for the idea that this is unfair. People who lived in the US during 9/11 were deported far harsher 😞. When you go to a foreign country, you must accept that political instability and systemic issues are part of the deal. Unless you become a citizen, your time there is temporary ⏳. I get it - Indian parents with kids in US feel frustrated and angry 😡. But it’s not just about individuals—it’s the system. The global monetary system makes the rich richer 💰 and the poor poorer 💸. Trump rose to power by appealing to the economically vulnerable. And similar dynamics are happening here in India, especially concerning minorities ⚠️. We feel sorry for Indians in the US who are a minority. But have we reflected on how we treat minorities in our own country? 🤔 Under the current government, minorities are struggling. If you have sympathy for Indians abroad, you must also have empathy for minorities at home 💡.
