Andrei Balcanasu liked thisIf you’re hiring for an amazing cloud/platform engineer, look no further.Andrei Balcanasu liked thisQuick update: unfortunately I've been impacted by a layoff and now I'm open to explore new opportunities. I'm a Staff Operation Engineer with +10y experience in Cloud infrastructure , platform engineering, and AWS-based systems. Over the years I’ve worked on DNS platforms, edge technologies, and automation, with a strong focus on reliability and scalability. I’m particularly interested in roles where I can apply strong engineering skills to build and improve scalable systems, especially within platform or infrastructure-focused teams. If you’re hiring or know of relevant opportunities, feel free to reach out or connect. Thanks 😃

Seeing things go from the drawing board to production many times. From early bets on domain events and Kafka as the main event bus, to building analytics on top of those streams, to delivering AI-driven features and even being part of the Copenhagen office band and playing at the office parties 🎸. I’ll miss a lot of the people. But after so many years, I felt I needed to move on. Today, after the Easter break and an amazing family vacation to Italy, I’m joining Danske Bank as a Senior Software Architect. The core mission is to build a unified platform for near-instant, automated credit decisions, a genuinely interesting problem at real scale. Excited to get started!

Andrei Balcanasu reacted on thisAndrei Balcanasu reacted on thisAfter 11 years(!), I've decided to depart Zendesk, and have started a new job at Parloa. Honestly, I'm amazed that I kept the same job for 11 years. All my previous jobs had been 2-3 years, which seemed like the norm for the SF Bay Area. But I really enjoyed the opportunity to work on big, impactful projects, and to see how they played out over several years. There are projects that I proposed, helped implement, watch them scale out, and then be replaced by something even better that other teams created. That's awesome to see. I already miss a lot of the great people I got a chance to work with there. Saying goodbye is always hard. But I also recognized that I hit a plateau, and was ready for new and different challenges. I'm excited to start this new role at Parloa. It's a much smaller company, with fewer teams and timezones and overhead. I'm going to be working on cloud infrastructure and platforms and developer tooling, like I did at Zendesk. I really enjoy helping other engineers to build things and learn and grow, and remove the unnecessary friction in their day-to-day lives. To all my former colleagues, I wish you well, and hope you keep creating great things.

Andrei Balcanasu reacted on thisAndrei Balcanasu reacted on thisMy time at Zendesk has come to an end after almost 7 years. Looking back, I’m quite proud of what my teams and I accomplished. It was an honor to oversee Ticketing for that entire period. I had the great privilege to work with some of the best people in my career, both directly and indirectly. One of the toughest realizations of this layoff is that I won’t be interacting with these people every day anymore. I’ve lost count of the number of people that I have interviewed, promoted, and guided in their careers. I hope I had a positive long-term impact on their careers, as some of the great managers I have worked for impacted mine. The achievements that stand out the most to me include: - Improving the performance of our ticketing services to reduce their p99 response times by over 50% since we began - Working with my team to re-architect the Service Level Agreements product to improve functionality, performance, and scalability to the point that the data was 99.9% accurate and reliable for key business functions - Driving the development and adoption of critical platform features to accelerate internal teams, specifically enabling faster delivery of new AI capabilities. - Successfully delivered a highly-requested feature, sought after by customers for a decade. This achievement required two years of dedicated work and extensive cross-team collaboration. The feature achieved 40% adoption in the first year. - Simplifying our ticket save process to move secondary functions to an async process. It was also one of the first projects to successfully move a service out of the monolith and into a dedicated microservice. - Building out three new remote teams in Singapore, Pune, and Krakow. - Adding the ability to modify closed tickets to support better reporting for our customers - Helping my teams to feel safe, productive, and engaged during the COVID pandemic - Identifying ways to turn some of our cost drivers into revenue generators by highlighting the areas of our product that created cost pressure and reduced our operating margins. The resulting product exceeded its revenue goals in the first year by 500%. - Championing a substantial improvement to how we handled 304 responses that reduced response times by over 50% while also lowering CPU and DB costs - Mentoring one of my tech leads into presenting for the first time at one of our internal tech conferences. Encouraging him to apply and get selected to present that content at multiple major tech conferences. And finally, encouraging him to write a book, which was recently published. - And finally, continuously motivating people to give their best on each project, recognizing the contributions of individuals towards company goals, and inspiring my teams that the work we are doing has meaning and impacts both our company and our customers I could go on but I'm at the LinkedIn limit for a post. 😁

Andrei Balcanasu reacted on thisAndrei Balcanasu reacted on thisExactly a year ago today, the former komoot team was told to cancel all scheduled meetings and instead join an all-hands call. The rest is history. So how are we doing, one year later? Some of us have found new jobs - stepped up the career ladder, or found an organization that actually does good in the world. Some happily work a soulless job only for the money now. Others are still fighting their ways through seemingly endless interview funnels. Almost all of us say, they’ll never be blinded by „We’re all family’ again. Some have moved away from the corporate world, became professional mountaineers (1), started an online shop for candles and flowers (2) or a board game café. Some, only a handful by now, are still with the company. But no matter where we are personally, one year later – what we all gained in this process, is 160 friends spread all over Europe – a network of tremendous support and kindness. We find each other when we’re in the same city. We hop on calls to share stories and gossip. We’ve arranged to be in the same place again for a few days soon. Multiple times a week, a message from somebody in the chat will pop up and make me smile. And this is the single most valuable and heartwarming thing, that came out of this mess. Love you, friends. ❤️ 1) Rémi Alex's mountaineering adventures: https://lnkd.in/dn6JnVGE 2) Katy’s Juniper Cottage Co.: https://lnkd.in/dVBfPEd2 Photo: Screenshot from Dmytro P.'s video „Goodbye Komoot Team“ https://lnkd.in/dYmQifBn

Andrei Balcanasu liked thisAndrei Balcanasu liked thisI recently joined Cursor as the first remote engineering leader. It's been incredibly fast and fun. Going all-in with Cloud Agents + Automations + Bugbot has made me faster than ever getting code into production. We're making decisions that will shape how professionals collaborate and build software. And we need to help companies navigate their fastest growing expense. I'm hiring 3 specific roles right now. I'll link to them in the comments. Apply directly if you're interested or DM me the best person in your network for these roles.
