Angsty Gyuhan recs

one of the tags is “emotional slow burn” and i think that’s very accurate. i love how the author writes mingyu in this fic.
It’s hard to even remember to breathe, it’s warm like lying under the sun in August; and Jeonghan thinks, for someone born in spring, Mingyu kisses like summer’s in his blood. It’s the warmest thing he’s ever known, and he thinks, if someone like that ever loved him, it’d set him on fire. (Or, the one where Jeonghan and Mingyu start hooking up in secret, and Jeonghan has to face the mortifying ordeal of being known.)

soulmate angst.
“Please don’t leave me,” Jeonghan begs, in between kisses. He knows he’s drunk and that he has to stop talking, but the truth comes out of him anyway. Embarrassingly desperate, excruciatingly real. “Please, God, I won’t be able to handle it.”
“Baby,” Mingyu breathes out, “I won’t.”
at the open-heart of it by divisibilities
the author described this as a “coming of gender” fic and i thought that was really apt.
Eight months ago, Jeonghan and Mingyu broke up.
Well, to be specific: eight months ago, Jeonghan broke up with Mingyu. He didn't have much of a choice. He's positive that Mingyu would have beaten him to the punch otherwise.

“It doesn’t matter,” Jeonghan says. He drags a finger around the mouth of his own beer glass, drawing a circle on the condensation. “I won’t see him that much anymore after this.” “Everything matters to you,” Seungcheol mutters. “You just don’t like saying it out loud.”
Jeonghan learns what to keep and what to discard; all that comes between him and Mingyu catches up.

mingyu swaps into jeonghan’s position.
Mingyu sighs, but stops arguing and follows Seungcheol off the pitch.
And Jeonghan has gotten off the bench, free hand waving at the team as they come off the field, his injured arm in his sling. He’s smiling. Mingyu’s sure it’s not meant for him.
“Cheol-ah,” Jeonghan calls affectionately to the captain, who scoffs and shakes his head in response. “Are you taking the first penalty shot, or will Mingyu-ssi be taking my place there too?”

"As long as we’re on the same team, we’ll never be on the same side."
They were teammates, and they were rivals. Until the bitter end.

jealous sulky mingoo.
Given their track record, it’s sort of amazing Mingyu and Jeonghan chose each other. Maybe Seungcheol would have been a better choice, the right choice, but it’s not the one Jeonghan made. Instead, Jeonghan will call him tonight, just like he has been every night. Seungcheol will ask him for one more drink and Jeonghan will say no, he’s got to go call his boyfriend.

fwb with a lot of history with each other.
Three years after everything, Jeonghan shows up at Mingyu's door.
Mingyu lets him in.

angst with a happy ending.
Jeonghan looks up and he sees the person he’s wanted to see the most, and the person he’s most been dreading to see–
Kim Mingyu is standing in front of him, wearing the jacket that Jeonghan got him long ago. He didn’t know he’d kept it. And Mingyu looks like himself, but his hair is a little longer and his shoulders a little broader. He’s just as pretty as he was when Jeonghan left him three years ago.

jealous friends with benefits.
The secret is that they do this every time they go clubbing. The heavy breaths, the hands on flushed skin, the heartbeats thrumming in rhythm with the music. In dark rooms and darker corners.
The secret is that this isn't new.
The real secret is that Mingyu wants more.
i want to be alone! no i don’t! by notspring
jeonghan is having an existential crisis.
“Yeah, but that’s, like….” Seungkwan pauses, making a face as he searches for what to say next. “A cry for help,” is what he settles on, and Jeonghan grimaces.
“I’m not crying for anything,” he says.

royalty au where mingyu is a prince and jeonghan has the bad luck of becoming a pawn.
Jeonghan's father has his eyes on a political prize, and his way to it involves the prince of their country - with Jeonghan as the lure.
lie again by calypsio
jeonghan trying not to fall in love and failing.
That summer turns into the summer of Mingyu.
Jeonghan doesn't notice it happening until it's already too late.
Or, at least, that's what he tells himself.
you said love fills you up by moonbreeze
usually i just put the ao3 summary but i love this line so much:
Jeonghan flinches slightly, drawing his knees up to his chest. “I want love,” he says. “But I… what if someone takes it away?”
“You can’t take love away,” Mingyu says. “Once you give it to someone, it’s not yours anymore. I gave you half of my egg. You’ve eaten it. That love is in you now.”
faking it by calypsio
i think everyone and their mother has read this one, for good reason. fake/pretend reloationship. jeonghan is mega confused.
Apparently the best way to avoid bad press is to turn it into good press. So when Mingyu finds himself on the brink of a dating scandal that could end his career, the company instead announces that he and Jeonghan are in a relationship.
Sometimes you just have to fake it until you make it.
