Anarchists remember 54th Bloody Sunday Anniversary Derry

Derry Anarchists took part in the annual Bloody Sunday March for Justice on Sunday in Derry which marked the 54th anniversary. Just as years previously, anarchists from the city and beyond also took part in solidarity with the Bloody Sunday families and the continuing campaign for justice and truth.

As anarchists we attend the ongoing ‘March for Justice’ in solidarity. Working class solidarity with those continue to defy state terror and exerocise the right to protest around our world, from the Bogside to Minneapolis.

The annual Bloody Sunday March for Justice was the final event as part of a week long programme which also included the Derry Radical Bookfair

Derry Radical Bookfair Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Derry Radical Bookfair at Pilots Row Community Centre.

Over the last decade the Radical Bookfair has played an important part of the city’s political calendar in the heart of the Bogside. Political books, discussions and debates have engaged the local audience, as well as those who have travelled from further afield, just to take part in discussions or buy new or old political literature. One of the organising committees spoke ahead of this years 10th anniversary celebrations, stated that, “It’s hard to believe that we’re marking our tenth year already. It’s amazing to think of the amount of book launches, discussions or events we’ve created over the last number of years.

“Most of the small independent book sellers and publishers have stayed with us over the year’s and for very many it has turned it into an pilgrimage of sorts. We would like to that each and everyone of them.”

This years Radical Bookfair will see many familiar faces return once again, as well as several new stall holders to support the ongoing work and fantastic space organisers have created each year in Rossville Street.

The idea first came to the local organiser’s following similar events in both London and Dublin. The committee member said that “Some of us regularly attended the London Anarchist Book Fairs in the late 80s and 90s. These events have always been a focal point for anarchist ideas and discussions, as well as a great source to pick up radical political literature. Books and publications that wasn’t readily available here in Derry.

“I guess at the time, Derry and Belfast had radical independent bookshops such as Bookworm or Justbooks. Both locations were ideal to pick up anarchist, feminist or queer political material. It was always your first point of contact for radical literature.”

Since the first Radical Bookfair took place in Derry, it has played a vital part of the annual Bloody Sunday March for Justice week of events in Derry.

They continued, “Some of our participants hold different radical ideas, practices, traditions and none. What we have created is a space in support of small press publishers and independent book sellers, circulating radical reading materials from independent distributers, non-party political campaigns and groups to share their publications and merchandise, most of which are difficult to pick-up in mainstream book shops.

“You’ll find books of local, national and international interest including social and labour history or themes covering radical feminism, queer liberation, anarchism, marxism, republicanism and environmentalism.

“Derry has one most vibrant radical history on the island of Ireland. That’s a radical history which has shaped the world around us. It’s a proud tradition of working class radicalism that has changed society for the better, so it’s no surprise that we continue that tradition with our own Radical Bookfair and that it plays an equally important role within the Bloody Sunday March for Justice Week of events. We hope that Derry Radical Bookfair can grow and allow our class to educate, agitate and organise ourselves with ideas that continues to change the world around us.”

The Derry Radical Bookfair takes place on Saturday 31st January 2026 at Pilots Row Community Centre in Rossville Street from 12noon until 5pm.

Uprising and repression in Indonesia

General Situation in Indonesia

On September 16, 2025, 14 individuals were arrested by the Bali Police on charges of vandalizing buildings and vehicles in the area of the Bali Police Headquarters and the Bali Regional Representative Council during the August 30 demonstration.

Since September, 288 people have been arrested for the August uprising in Surabaya, East Java. Some of whom have been released in poor condition, since the police tortured them badly for three days. This leaves around 80 people remaining imprisoned in Surabaya, including approximately 30 accused anarchists there. This week, some of them will undergo their first trial. The case in Surabaya is particularly sad because many of those arrested are ordinary people, such as workers or online motorcycle taxi drivers who happened to be in the vicinity of the riots. Some were simply watching the riots but were then arrested sporadically. Although they were eventually released in a battered state, some of their property, such as their cell phones, was not returned by the police/ Motorcycle taxi drivers did not even get back the motorcycles they used to make a living.
In addition, the police continue to arrest anyone proven to have been involved in the August demonstrations, especially students and activists in various cities. This time, they involved infiltrators in the Movement to map out arrest targets. As a result, many people are paranoid and suspicious of each other.

This also reveals the fact that power is fragile and unstable, as the political crisis that already existed within the state’s power structure was exacerbated by the impact of last August’s riots. The ruling elites, divided into two major blocs, blame each other and strengthen their respective forces. As a result, various new repressive laws, such as the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) that expands the authority of the police, have been passed in the interests of power and to quell potential threats. This explains why sporadic arrests of civilians continue to this day. On January 2, 2026, the KUHAP law will kick in, this will give the police more leeway to arrest people without solid evidence upfront (especially in the early ‘inquiry’ phase before a crime’s fully confirmed). Critics are saying it will lead to more arbitrary arrests and police overreach, like more searches and detentions without any strong checks. It is suspected that this law will be used to crackdown on the remaining anarchists and non-conformers. There’s considerable hostility building against the repressive law change.

On December 23, 2025, an individualist anarchist was arrested in Makassar, his name is Amal. Amal is being held at the police station in Makassar until January 12, 2026. He is accused of burning down a police station in Makassar five years ago. It’s through an investigation based on information from a suspected informant/infiltrator, according to the files. Amal was arrested at his home. An hour later, the police raided a discussion forum on the environmental crisis held in a collective space called “Munisipal Kongsi Dagang”. The name of the event was ‘Prelude to a Disaster’. The pretext was a drug raid, but in fact they were taken to be witnesses against Amal and later released.

Update of the prisoner’s conditions in the ‘Chaos Star network’ case

As of December 23, 2025, there are only two anarchist prisoners from “Chaos Star” remaining in the West Java Regional Police detention center: Eat (Reyhard Rumbayan) and Dena a.k.a Apip a.k.a Scoobydoomz. Dena was recently arrested on November 20 by Densus 88 (Special anti-terrorism/anti-Makar squad. Makar is an Indonesia term meaning to overthrow the state) in Bali and sent to the West Java Regional Police Headquarters as the focal point of the investigation into the “Chaos Star” group. Meanwhile, the other 42 prisoners have been transferred to the prosecutor’s detention facility (Kebon Waru prison) in preparation for their court hearings. Twenty four of them have already begun their trials, including:

M. Subhan Abdul GhoniWanda Abdul Rahman
Eli YanaWawan Hermawan

Jatnika Alan RamdhaniArya Yudha
Ariel Octa DwiyanRifa Rahnabilla
Angga FriansyahMarshall Andy Kaswara

All of them were accused of assaulting police officers and committing violence in public under Articles 170 (violence in public), 214 (collective resistance), and 406 (destruction of another person’s property) of the Indonesian Criminal Code. Most of these prisoners are ordinary people who have no connection to anarchist-individualists/nihilists. They are victims of arbitrary arrests by the police and are facing trials without access to their own lawyers.

REPRESSIONS OF ANARCHISTS IN THE LAST DAYS

RUSSIA:

– In Czica, on October 22, 2025, a new sentence was issued for anti-fascist Aleksandr Snie Czków: five years in prison. Sniezkow was charged under the article “Public incitement to terrorist activities, public justification or promotion of terrorism.” This article provides for a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles or imprisonment for a period of two to five years. The judge sentenced Alexander to five years in prison, partly combining the new sentence with the old one. Of that, Sne kolonkow will spend three years in prison, and two years in a colony with sharpened rigor. The prosecutor demanded a sentence of 6 years and 6 months.

According to the investigation version, Alexander allegedly “incited terrorism” when he was reading excerpts from his case to his fellow prisoners – in particular an article published earlier on the unpopular Telegram channels “zlo75″ and ” Wedугань25″. The prosecution claimed the words could “inspire extremism” among his fellow prisoners, most of whom had already been prosecuted for articles related to terrorism.

This is the second criminal case against Aleksandrów Snie nakov. The first one ended on April 25, 2024 when he was sentenced to six years in prison. He was found guilty on the basis of an article about vandalism based on political hostility – for the “Death to the regime” graffiti, and also on the basis of articles about inviting extremism and terrorism – for administering the Telegram channels “75zlo” and ” nугань-25″, where news about protests, anti-war activities and animal protection were posted. In November 2024 the appeal reduced the sentence to 5 years and 10 months.

BELARUS :

– Aleksiej Gołowko has been added six months in prison to his 12-year sentence in the case of “international criminal anarchists organization”.

– anarchist Aleksandr Kozljance, who recently had a birthday, was added 1.5 years in prison. Sasza was recently convicted for allegedly persistent disobedience to the demands of the penal colony administration. The court’s verdict is another 1.5 years of colony to his 6-year sentence in the case of “international organized criminal anarchist group”. It is currently unknown where Sasza is and where he will be transferred.

Black Flag Solidarity Vigil for Bloody Sunday

Several hundred people gathered once again at Free Derry Wall on Friday evening, in solidarity with the families of those murdered on Bloody Sunday.

The impromptu Black Flag Solidarity Vigil, organised by the Bloody Sunday March for Justice Committee, came following the outcome of the recent legal proceedings against the former paratrooper accused of murdering two civilians on the Bloody Sunday back in January 1972.

A member of the British Parachute Regiment, known as ‘Soldier F’, was accused of murdering two innocent and unarmed protesters, James Wray and William McKinney, whilst participating in the civil rights parade in Derry. ‘Soldier F’ was also found not guilty of another five attempted murders at Belfast Crown Court on Thursday.

At the vigil, a number of Bloody Sunday family members addressed those who gathered which included Liam Wray, Kate Nash and Geraldine Doherty, the niece of Gerald Donaghey, who was murdered on Bloody Sunday.

A representative of the Bloody Sunday March Committee and former civil rights activist Eamonn McCann, addressed the vigil stating that they (the people of Derry) “will continue the fight for those killed and injured that day. He said “We will keep going, we have to!”.

As the event came to a close, Kate Nash reminded those in gathered that “all of us must continue to March for Justice”.

Following the Black Flag Solidarity Vigil, a local anarchist activist commented upon the event stating that “We totally agree with each of the speakers on the important of the March for Justice. We must continue to support this event and to support the families who continue to demand justice for what happened on these streets.

“For anarchists, we believe that justice for what happened on Bloody Sunday will never be achieved through the machinery of the British State. Through their legal systems, their courts or their parliaments. All of the State’s institutions are designed and created solely to protect the States own system of power and interests. Our freedom, just as the justice we seek for what happened on Bloody Sunday, will only come from the streets and by the people themselves.”

Trial begins for Anarchist Prisoner in ‘Death to the Regime!’ Graffiti

In Chita a new trial starts against Alexander Snezhkov

On October 22, 2025, the Second District Military Court in Chita will start hearing a new criminal case against anarchist Alexander Snezhkov. This time, he is charged under of “Public calls for terrorist activity, public justification, or propaganda of terrorism.” The article carries a penalty of up to 500,000 rubles (circa 5000 euros) in fines or two to five years in prison.

This is the second criminal case against Snezhkov. The first ended on April 25, 2024, when the First District Military Court, during an offsite session in Chita, sentenced him to six years in a penal colony. He was found guilty under the article on ”vandalism motivated by political hatred” for graffiti reading “Death to the regime.” He was also convicted under articles for calls to ”extremism” and ”terrorism” for administering anarchist Telegram channels. In November 2024, the appeal court reduced the sentence to five years and ten months.

Snezhkov was arrested in the fall of 2022 in Chita. The grounds for his arrest were graffiti and his administration of the Telegram channels “75zlo” and “Shugan-25,” which published news about anti-war protests, partisan actions, and animal rights.

The new criminal case was opened in January 2025 while Alexander was in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Chita. A fellow inmate cooperating with the administration was placed in his cell and began questioning him about the case. Their conversation was secretly recorded. Based on this recording, the FSB opened a new case against him for “justifying terrorism.”

The hearing will take place at Chita, Leningradskaya Street 100, courtroom No. 1. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. The judge is O. O. Dunyashin.

According to Alexander, the court may try to issue a verdict in a single session. He intends to fight to the end, but under the conditions of a military court—which has become a punitive institution—much has already been predetermined. In such cases in Russia, acquittals are almost unheard of.

Friends, journalists, and concerned residents of Chita are encouraged to attend the trial and show support for Alexander. He needs solidarity and human attention that is stronger than any wall. Even if the hearing is closed to the public, it is still important to come and show support.

You may write letters of support to Alexander.

Letters should be written in Russian, but you can use automated online translation tools. We recommend writing at least the prisoner’s name in Cyrillic, and, if possible, also the address in Cyrillic letters.
Prisoner’s name in Cyrillic (to be written after the address, according to Russian convention): Снежкову Александру Евгеньевичу 2003 г.р.
