A typical day for Herbert Hernandez begins with a prayer and a generous dose of coffee. He spends his workday from 9 to 6 at GIGIL, either on calls or meeting with clients, taking a lunch break with his family. Married for 15 years and father to three children, Hernandez makes it a priority to spend quality time with his loved ones. Whenever possible, he invites his children to the office to show them what he does during the day. Evenings are filled with family dinners and, frequently, performances with either 6cyclemind or Moonstar88. He ends his day unwinding with Mobile Legends alongside his wife. Hernandez also ensures there’s one date night, one family day, and one international family vacation each year, alongside regular family bike rides and a focus on health.

Hernandez’s busy schedule also involves significant travel. The trade-off often comes in the form of reduced sleep, with many nights offering him only four hours. Despite the sacrifices, his dual careers bring him immense satisfaction. The positive feedback from fans and clients provides the motivation he needs to keep moving forward.

In addition to his diverse careers in advertising and music, Hernandez has committed himself to creating opportunities and solutions for his industry peers. In 2018, he launched The Indierectory, a platform designed to help advertising freelancers and independents showcase their work directly to hiring agencies and companies. Hernandez is dedicated to connecting Filipino talents with paid opportunities, with hopes of expanding this initiative globally.

Moreover, in 2010, Hernandez founded the Lakihan Mo Logo (“Make the Logo Bigger”), which he describes as “a commercial break for people making commercials.” This concert series features bands composed of Manila-based advertising professionals, offering them a creative outlet to relieve stress. Despite almost leaving his music career behind while advancing in advertising, Hernandez now provides a similar escape for his entire industry. Since its inception, Lakihan Mo Logo has held 58 concerts, with some participants achieving recording artist status. Additionally, Hernandez organized 12 “Rockovery” concerts to raise funds for critically ill members of the advertising community.

At 40, Herbert Hernandez envisions retiring in the next 15 years. After reading through magazines, watching movies and watching the latest edition of soap operas your imagination runs wild. You start to think that I want a life like that or I hope that never happens to me. The reality is that our life is nothing like a movie or a soap opera. There maybe some things in the soap that happen to you but in general whatever appears on TV is not reality.

OK so men like factual things and hate anything emotional. The emotional nature and lack of facts in a soap are probably the biggest reasons for men disliking Soaps, but they are not the only reasons.

The majority of men absolutely hate soap operas because they know that women are going to compare their lives with what is happening on the latest soap opera. Women for some reason want to relive most of the moments on the soap opera. Fair enough they have conversations with their friends about what’s happened on the latest edition of Coronation Street. But don’t make the big mistake and think your life should be like a soap opera or a movie.

Life in reality is full of good times and bad times. Life would be boring if it was easy. But don’t make life any harder than it already is by being a drama queen. Sometimes men find these drama moments entertaining but go over the top and he will find them annoying. Too much drama or inflating an issue too far and sorry he will be thinking (manipulative, devious witch) maybe I am going out with the wrong woman.

Equally so women who reckon that they should experience all the good times that their latest soap character has experienced are also very naive. While there is nothing wrong with reminding him to be romantic every now and then, don’t bombard him with the your latest fad as seen on Coronation Street every week. That’s tacky, annoying and makes him feel as though he is worthless to constantly compare him with a movie star or soap star. Comparing him every once in a while is fine but don’t constantly put him down, because you wouldn’t like it if he did the same to you.

The reality of real life is the challenge of bringing up children, balancing your finances, buying a house, shopping for groceries etc. Balanced with some very exciting times such as wedding days, honeymoons, romantic dates, when your child first walks or talks, when your child gets married and continues the next generation of your family.

When he is not working on the latest movie, even Brad Pitt has to think about the more mundane things in life. So don’t try to make your life like a fantasy story on TV.

G-Man: What’s the history of MySpace?

Chris DeWolfe: We launched the general MySpace site in September of 2003. Our vision was to create a portal where our users could mobilize and connect around shared interests — whether those interests be music, television, dating, nightlife, politics, religion or anything else.

G-Man: How does music fit into the MySpace network?

Chris DeWolfe: Almost from the day we launched, music became one of the primary interests of MySpace users. We believe that most people hear and sample new music based on recommendations from friends. The network affect of our site (friends telling friends), allows new trends and music to spread very quickly. At the same time, bands began flocking to MySpace as a mechanism to promote themselves, find new fans, book shows, and even secure label deals.

G-Man: What are the revenue streams for MySpace?

Chris DeWolfe: MySpace is currently supported by online advertising and sponsorship. We may add premium services later, but any service we currently offer for free will stay that way. We’ve been lucky to secure top tier advertisers such as Sony Music, Interscope, Warner Music, Dreamworks, Napster and others. The promotion works for these types of advertisers because most of our users are hip 18-34 year-old influencers who love music and frequently go to movies during the opening weekend.

G-Man: What are the advantages for artists using MySpace?

Chris DeWolfe: Artists may sell their CDs on our site. The primary use so far has been for bands to mobilize new fans who they ordinarily wouldn’t have met. A band from Iowa can quickly develop a following in New York or Los Angeles. Additionally, bands use the site to book tours and fill venues. The MySpace social network is international. Because MySpace is an online network, it makes geographical boundaries less relevant.

G-Man: Can you compare the MySpace entity with other networking sites?

Chris DeWolfe: Most sites are narrowly focused on business networking, classifieds, or dating. MySpace is a portal that uses a social networking infrastructure. MySpace includes, games, blogs, music, classifieds, forums, mail, instant messaging, and user rankings. Our model has lead to an incredibly sticky site where the average user spends over an hour per session on the site. We have also served more page views than our largest competitor in each of the last three months.

MySpace is just extending functionality around existing mass behavior. Most if not all of those other sites didn’t or don’t have that luxury — they were counting on behavior to develop around functionality. To put it another way, we’re not building it, hoping people will come. People are already on the site sharing information about bands; bands are already recruiting fans and local help; users are already clamoring to download music; they’re already ranking and rating music; they’re already showing up at our parties to hear music they learned about on MySpace. MySpace music works because two million people are already doing what we’re now making it easier for them to do.

G-Man: What marketing arenas are involved (or planned to be involved) with MySpace?

Chris DeWolfe: Two of our bigger marketing partners are the Warped Tour and Rock The Vote. The Warped Tour, in particular, is a great fit for us. We are sponsoring the Uproar Stage and bands from MySpace will be playing at Warped Tour venues. This partnership offers great exposure for MySpace Music and participating MySpace Music bands.

Rock the Vote is also a great partner as it fits in with our mission of allowing our users to mobilize around shared interests. MySpace users can register to vote directly from our home page. We will also be participating in several of their music shows.

Being a poet is in your blood, in some way or another, but why haven’t you realized it yet? Poetry is simply a metered form of writing, that expresses art, more than it does language. Poetry must conform with the intent to entertain the reader, where you will have any form or style permitted, which go beyond conventional writing, and the best part is that you can break all sorts of rules, or even all the rules, and it will still count!

When you think of a poet, what comes to mind? Do you see yourself as the master of poetry? Poetry is a personal art form, where the artist expresses their true intent, and you, in some way, are a poet. You will know if you are a poet when you want to express deep, inner-emotions, but you want to write within your own ability. You want to write without restrictions, you want to express yourself!

You see yourself as a person, with values, with your own tastes, and your own desires, you can easily express this through writing poetry, you will even let out your frustrations and fears! When you read over it, you look at the result, you may even let go of your anger or fear when you see how irrational your feelings really were!

To write poetry, one must only write down their thoughts, in their own unique, artistic style. Think of yourself as an artist, who chooses to make their art into words! You are art itself, as your body, your mind, and your soul lead you on your own unique life path! What does your life mean to you? Even if you see your life as meaningless, express that feeling of isolation, feel your words, and write down everything about you!

You are a true poet when you learn to just let go of all conventions, let go of all your preconceived notions. If you think a poet is too dramatic, just look at your own life. Who doesn’t have drama in their life? Everyone fills the role in their own personal drama; poets choose to make their whole life into a masterpiece, much like they perfect their art of writing poetry. You know that you are fit to write, you know deep down inside, your entire being wants to come to life, in a world full of chaos, you are a poet.
