BlipBit Boot Socks https://algorithmicknitting.com/blipbit-boot-socks/ https://algorithmicknitting.com/blipbit-boot-socks/#respond Thu, 03 Apr 2025 12:10:03 +0000 https://algorithmicknitting.com/?p=861
ABOUT THIS PATTERN

BlipBit Boot Socks are 2-strand colorwork knee high socks knit with DK weight yarn with a different pattern for each sock to combat 2nd sock syndrome! Or if you prefer, knit one of the two available colorwork patterns for a matching pair.

Worked with a ribbed cuff, to wear pulled up to the knees or slouched for that 90s vibe. The socks have a variable calf size, and have been sized to accommodate varying calf sizes in relation to foot circumference size. Foot length is fully customizable. The socks are worked top down in the round for the Calf with shaping to the ankle, then back and forth for the Heel Flap. The heel is shaped with short rows then stitches picked up along the Heel Flap for the Gusset. The Gusset and Foot are worked in the round with decreases for the Toes and finished with kitchener stitch.

This pattern is available on Ravelry for €7.50.

ABOUT THIS PATTERN

Pattern available in English.

Lace Matrix Headband is a quick knit with an accessible but unusual pattern to keep you engaged. It uses aran weight yarn and the pattern is worked in the round with no seams. It uses a combination of lace and knit and purl textures.

This pattern is available for free

Sign up to the Algorithmic Knitting Design mailing list to receive the pattern in your inbox! (we never share your information!).

MATERIALS AND TOOLS
Recommended Yarn

Aran weight yarn.

Lightly variegated, lightly speckled to solid color yarns, as well as lightly fuzzy / haloed yarns with good stitch definition are recommended. Tweedy yarns, very fuzzy / haloed yarns or heavily variegated / speckled yarns are not recommended as they will obscure both the difference between the knit and purl stitches and the lace on which this pattern depends.

Sample knit with We Are Knitters Meriwool in Mauve.

Bitflower Mobius Cowl https://algorithmicknitting.com/bitflower-mobius-cowl/ https://algorithmicknitting.com/bitflower-mobius-cowl/#respond Fri, 29 Nov 2024 13:26:14 +0000 https://algorithmicknitting.com/?p=792

ABOUT THIS PATTERN

Pattern available in English and Dutch.

Bitflower Mobius cowl is a snuggly 2-strand colorwork mobius cowl worked in the round, knit sideways. The cowl knits up quickly thanks to its bulky weight yarn. It is cast on with a provisional cast on and later kitchenered with a half twist at the ends for an invisible seam. It takes its name from its digital yet seemingly floral appearance.

Bitflower Mobius cowl yarn kits are available at Cross and Woods.

This pattern is available on Ravelry for €8.00.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS
Recommended Yarn

Bulky weight yarn in 2 colors.

This design works well with a variety of yarns although heavy yarns such as cotton or alpaca are not recommended, as they may sag out with time and be excessively heavy – blown yarns (as shown in sample) are highly recommended as they provide durable loft and airiness.

Sample was knit with CaMaRose Snefnug in Braendt Orange (MC) and Lys Pink (CC).

Needles

6mm / US 10 / UK 4 40-60cm/16-24” circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge (per 10cm / 4″ after blocking)

18 stitches x 19 rows in colorwork pattern, in the round

Sizes available

Pattern as based on recommended gauge results in a cowl of 86cm/34” circumference and 27cm/11” wide.

Yardage (approximate)

Based on recommended gauge:

  • Color 1 (main): 320 m / 350 yds
  • Color 2 (contrast): 180 m / 200 yds
Notions
  • 2nd 40-60cm/16-24” circular needle, same size or smaller, for kitchener stitch, and provisional cast on, if choosing spare cable method
  • crochet hook, if choosing crochet hook method for provisional cast on
  • Stitch markers or waste yarn in various colors
  • highlighter (for marking completed rows on printed charts)
  • colored pens/pencils for delineating charts
  • tapestry needle
  • tape measure
Techniques
  • provisional cast on
  • knitting in the round

Introducing: Solitons Sweater – Lace Version https://algorithmicknitting.com/introducing-solitons-sweater-lace-version/ https://algorithmicknitting.com/introducing-solitons-sweater-lace-version/#respond Thu, 26 Sep 2024 22:55:38 +0000 https://algorithmicknitting.com/?p=763 Introducing Solitons Sweater, lace version <3

You’ll find her with the lovely ladies at Cross and Woods at their stand at Breidagen this weekend!! This Solitons Sweater was knit two sizes up for extra airy roominess, with Bérénice by De Rerum Natura in Cypress, and a cheeky little stripe of Midnatssol in Light Turquoise from CaMaRose.

Knit on 4mm needles, using the same pattern as my sportweight Solitons Sweater – the result is same same yet totally different. It’s a dream to wear, light as air, with drool-worthy intricate, subtle patterning. I’m so excited to see how versatile this pattern has turned out to be.

Solitons Sweater was my debut pattern under the moniker Algorithmic Knitting Design.

Event Horizon Circle Scarf https://algorithmicknitting.com/event-horizon-circle-scarf/ https://algorithmicknitting.com/event-horizon-circle-scarf/#respond Sat, 21 Sep 2024 19:57:31 +0000 https://algorithmicknitting.com/?p=714
ABOUT THIS PATTERN

Event Horizon Cirle Scarf is a luxurious, intricate circle scarf worked in 2 colors of worsted weight yarn that can be worn in multiple ways – as a bolero, shawl, loop scarf, cowl and more. It is a fun and challenging knit that incorporates a variety of different techniques – 2-strand intarsia (no bobbins needed), basic knit and purl textures, honeycomb stitch, and simple lace. It is worked flat, beginning with a provisional cast on, and connected end to end with kitchener stitch for a seamless construction.

Event Horizon circle scarf is a collaboration with Urth Yarns.

This pattern is available on Ravelry for €9.00

MATERIALS AND TOOLS
Recommended Yarn

Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors.

A smooth plied yarn without fuzz will result in beautiful clarity and stitch definition. Very dark colors will obscure the texture, so a light- to medium-dark color is generally recommended. Likewise, yarns with a lot of variegation or very tweedy yarns are not recommended, as they obscure the difference between the knit and purl stitches.

Sample was knit with Urth Yarns 16 Worsted in P20 (color 1) and P60 (color 2).

Needles

5mm / US 8 / UK 6 80cm/32″ circular needles (or size to obtain gauge).

Gauge (per 10cm / 4″ after blocking)

19 stitches x 26 rows in stockinette

Gauge is not critical in this project – deviations are possible, although a row gauge of more than 26 rows per 10cm/4″ will result in a smaller circumference, possibly making it too short to wrap double.

Sizes available

One size fits all.

Finished dimensions (according to recommended gauge):
Pattern results in a scarf with a 150cm/59″ circumference and 52cm/20″ width.

Yardage (approximate)

Based on recommended gauge:

  • Color 1: 285gr / 570 m / 625 yd
  • Color 2: 185gr / 370 m / 405 yds
Notions
  • stitch markers or waste yarn (different colors highly recommended)
  • row counter (optional)
  • tapestry needle
  • tape measure
  • scissors
  • highlighter marker for crossing out completed chart rows (optional, highly recommended)
Techniques
  • knit and purl
  • intarsia (no bobbins required)
  • simple lacework
  • 1×1 cables
  • Selvedge edge

Turing Cowl https://algorithmicknitting.com/turing-cowl/ https://algorithmicknitting.com/turing-cowl/#respond Sat, 02 Dec 2023 00:54:18 +0000 https://algorithmicknitting.com/?p=665 ABOUT THIS PATTERN

Turing Cowl takes its name from Alan Turing: a pioneering mathematician and computer scientist often regarded as the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence, as well as a queer figure who serves as a reminder of the loss that discrimination creates.

Turing Cowl is a variable yarn weight pattern worked in the round, with no seams. It uses only knit and purl stitches to achieve its beautiful, subtle, chaotic texture.

  • In fingering weight yarn, the pattern produces a delicate close-fitting neck gaiter or headband
  • In DK / sportweight yarn the pattern produces a cozy, loose fitting cowl
  • In aran weight yarn the pattern produces a snuggly oversized cowl that also works as a snood

Turing Cowl is my first collaboration with indie dyer The Wee Yarn Company.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS
Recommended Yarn

This pattern works for a wide variety of yarns, from fingering weight / sock yarn to aran weight.

  • Fingering weight sample knit with The Wee Yarn Company’s Yaldi Yak Sock in Jaffa Cake
  • DK weight sample knit with The Wee Yarn Company’s Agnes DK in No Teal No Shade
  • Aran weight sample knit with The Wee Yarn Company’s Bonnie BFL Aran in Pastel Goth

This pattern is available on Ravelry for €4.50

Yarn kits for this pattern are available at The Wee Yarn Company:

Algorithmic Diva Bolero https://algorithmicknitting.com/algorithmic-diva-bolero/ https://algorithmicknitting.com/algorithmic-diva-bolero/#respond Thu, 12 Oct 2023 22:08:27 +0000 https://algorithmicknitting.com/?p=581
ABOUT THIS PATTERN

Pattern available in English and Dutch.

Algorithmic Diva Bolero combines a number of different techniques: from knit and purl textures, to intarsia (no bobbins required!), to simple lacework. This makes for a fun and challenging project for intermediate knitters that knits up quicker than expected. It is worked flat, sideways from one arm to the other, then stitched together along the ends to create the arms. This version of the bolero is fairly long, hitting at the thighs, dramatic and flowing.

The design is my first collaboration with Berlin-based indie dyer Boredom Kills Design

This pattern is available on Ravelry for 10.00

Yarn kits for this pattern are available at Boredom Kills Design:

MATERIALS AND TOOLS
Recommended Yarn

The Algorithmic Diva Bolero uses a combination of 3 different yarns: 2-ply DK yarn, lace yarn and DK boucle yarn for a truly unique, funky, and fashion forward look.

  • Color 1:  BKD Merino DK or other sportweight or DK yarn that obtains gauge
  • Color 2: BKD Merino Boucle or other sportweight or DK boucle yarn that obtains gauge
  • Color 3: BKD Kid Silk Lace or other laceweight yarn

Sample was knit with BKD Yarn kit – color combination Algorithmic Diva on 4mm needles.

Needles

4.0mm / US 6 / UK 8 80cm/32″ circular needles (or size to obtain gauge)

Gauge (per 10cm / 4″ after blocking)

21 stitches x 28 rows in stockinette for Colors 1& 2, in lace pattern for Color 3

Gauge is not extremely critical, but DK or sport weight yarn is recommended for Colors 1 and 2 to obtain appropriate dimensions. For Colors 2 (in stockinette) and 3 (in lace pattern) it is important that the gauge is equal to, or lower than, the gauge for color 1 (i.e. 21 stitches or less and 28 rows or less per 10x10cm), using the same needles, for shaping purposes.

Sizes available

One size fits most.
