EJ I have to disagree with your word usage they “allowed” Phillips, Dean and Blankenship to walk away. Sorry if that is being picky.

Phillips got a contract Howie was never going to offer. Good luck to Carolina. 30 million a year for a guy who averages 6.5 sacks and rarely plays a full season? I don’t think the contract will age well.

Howie knew the moment they drafted Campbell and gave Baun that contract Nakobe was gone. I wish he could have fit him in but his injury history I think was a prohibitive to that.

Blankenship? He is a dime a dozen S in this league. I think Marcus Epps being inserted into the secondary had more to stabilizing that secondary last season. Blankenship can’t tackle or cover. Christian McCaffrey zooming past him while Blankenship stood there will stay in my mind forever.

Another game of the Passing Ice Capades. Look at the pretty passes. Please shoot the damn puck for crying out loud! These guys couldn’t get the puck on the net even if they were allowed to throw it.

We have young talented offensive players on this team that should excel on the PP. we have a coach (2nd in a row) who preaches defensive responsibility to the point that offensive players are overthinking their defensive covers, even on the PP.

I’d happily give up some shorties for the PP to get creative and just go for it. These young guys will learn to play D. Let’s not beat the O out of them along the way. Let MM and Zegras go for Michigans all game if that’s what it takes.

Another vintage Vladar game wasted by a team with no offensive firepower especially on the PP which is embarrassing to say the least. Barkey is a warrior, he has definitely endeared himself to the Flyers faithful after this game. He consistently put his head into the fan and played hard. I wish all the players had his drive. As you stated, this team’s main problem might be their inability to hang onto the puck. Tippett looked like his all flash self in this one, he tried like Michkov but nothing to show for their efforts. Such a shame. Even the shootout was pretty weak and I was not surprised as they out-thought themselves there. Keep it simple and use your best moves.

Bill, I couldn’t agree more about the PP which is obscenely bad. The replacement of Michkov with Dvorak has made it look worse. I swear Tocchet is more concerned about faceoffs than scoring. In fact, I don’t think scoring is ever a priority given his late game line that you pointed out. They are playing like they are the team ahead in the standings which they obviously are not. Just dumb stuff with anything regarding scoring. This team is too defensively minded to a fault.

I agree with your overall praise of the Flyers especially against such a formidable opponent and this having been the second game of a back to back. Such a showing does give one hope that this team has maybe taken a step forward in just winning the second game in a back to back, something unheard of with any recent Flyers team. While they will most likely not make the playoffs their resilience is being seen and can for once be admired. This is a team to be proud of.
