Meet ANova: A UC Berkeley Student Run Non-Profit that seeks to empower students by providing computer science education and mentorship to under-resourced schools and marginalized communities.

ANova is excited to host our annual free of charge, hackathon for high school students from underserved communities. We imagine a diverse tech environment where age, gender, and background do not limit one’s ability to pursue computer science —— ANova Hacks aims to make that a reality. We want to give students the skills and experience necessary to achieve their career aspirations, and spread their ideas to the world through technology.

Throughout the week, experienced ANova mentors (UC Berkeley students) and industry professionals will be present to mentor hackers —— from project ideation and design, implementation, to polishing the final product that will be showcased during the judging process. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams in each category. This is a great opportunity for our students to not only apply what they have been learning in the classroom, but also be exposed to crucial skills used in industry and have a better understanding of life after high school.

Application Deadline: 3/19

ANova Hacks is an annual, free-of-charge hackathon with a mission of giving students from underserved communities the opportunity and resources to pursue computer science and other STEM-related fields.

We encourage students who meet any of the following criteria to apply (you do not have to meet all of the following criteria to be accepted):

  • Currently Enrolled in High School (required)
  • From an Underresourced Background
  • First Generation Student
  • Low Income Student
  • Identify as a Female
  • Reside in the Bay Area (i.e. Oakland, Hayward, etc.)

Though we wish we could accept everyone who applies, we have limited spots due to budgetary constraints and will use the responses to the questions in the final section in deciding who is able to attend. Personal information (such as coding level!) will not be taken into account. EVERYONE should feel free to apply to this event — regardless of coding level, experience, etc.
