What is the difference between WordPress and Jetpack apps?
We have improved the WordPress app to be more like the core WordPress software. With this update, key Jetpack features such as Stats, Notifications, and Reader are now exclusively available in the Jetpack app, and to use all these Jetpack features, the Jetpack should be connected to the site through the Jetpack plugin.
Jetpack App can work even without the Jetpack plugin, but it will not have any Jetpack features available to use in the App unless the Jetpack is connected to the site through the Jetpack plugin.
To help you decide which app is best for managing your site on the go, refer to this blog post, which includes a comparison table.
After choosing the app you want to use, delete the other one to prevent any data conflicts.
How to download Jetpack app?
Jetpack App is currently available for Android and iOS devices.
- Android users can download the app from the Play Store.
- iOS users can download the app from the App Store.
Requirements for a website to work on the Jetpack app
- The Jetpack app currently supports:
- Android: Version 8.0 or above
- iOS: Version 16.0 or above
- These requirements may change over time, so we recommend checking the Jetpack app on the Play Store or App Store for the most up-to-date compatibility info
- Publicly accessible XML-RPC file for the website.
- A publicly accessible WordPress site: no password protection or Coming Soon / Maintenance Mode plugin in use.
- A web host that meets the minimum PHP and MySQL (or MariaDB) versions specified in the WordPress host requirements.
- Make sure you have the latest version of WordPress installed for your site.
Plans & Features in the Jetpack App
The features available in the Jetpack app depend on your site type:
- Sites hosted on WordPress.com use WordPress.com plans (Free, Personal, Premium, Business, Commerce).
- Self-hosted WordPress sites connected to the Jetpack app use Jetpack plans (Free, Security, Complete, Backup, Scan, etc.).
💡 Note: WordPress.com plans apply only to sites hosted on WordPress.com. If your site is self-hosted, upgrading to a WordPress.com plan will not add features to your site or the Jetpack app. For self-hosted sites, you’ll need a Jetpack plan to unlock premium features like backups, scans, and priority support.
WordPress.com Sites
If your site is hosted on WordPress.com, you can compare WordPress.com plans here:
WordPress.com Plan Comparison.
Example: The Personal plan includes a custom domain, removal of WordPress.com ads, and email support.
Self-Hosted Sites
If your site is self-hosted and connected to the Jetpack app, you can compare Jetpack plans here:
Jetpack Plan Comparison.
Example: Jetpack Security includes daily backups, one-click restores, malware scanning, and spam protection.
Which version of Jetpack plugin does the Jetpack app work with?
We make sure the app works with the current version of Jetpack and two previous versions. Earlier versions are not supported, but most features may still work.
How do I get started with the Jetpack app?
Do you have a self-hosted WordPress site or a WordPress.com site? You can check the differences between both to understand them.
You can only create new WordPress.com sites directly from the Jetpack app.
If you want to use a self-hosted WordPress site, you’ll need to create it first through your web host (for example, using cPanel or a hosting installer), install the Jetpack plugin, and then connect it to your WordPress.com account.
After that, you can add it to the Jetpack app using Add self-hosted site.
If you have a self-hosted WordPress site:
- Open the Jetpack app and tap Enter your existing site address.
- Enter your site address (e.g.,
https://example.com), then log in with your WP Admin username/email address and password. Make sure to use the WP Admin login credentials and not your WordPress.com account login credentials.
If you have a site on WordPress.com or a self-hosted site with the Jetpack plugin installed:
- Open the Jetpack app and tap Continue With WordPress.com.
- Enter the email address associated with your WordPress.com account and tap Continue.
- On the next screen, add your password, reset it if needed, or request a magic link. Tap Continue.
- Two-Step Authentication (if enabled): Enter the verification code sent to your authenticator or mobile number. If you don’t have access to your 2FA device, contact our support.
- After tapping Continue, select one of your sites from the list, or you can create a new site by tapping the Create a new site button.
If you have a WordPress.com account and no sites:
- Open the Jetpack app and tap Continue With WordPress.com.
- Enter the email address associated with your WordPress.com account and tap Continue.
- On the next screen, add your password, reset it if needed, or request a magic link. Tap Continue.
- Two-Step Authentication (if enabled): Enter the verification code sent to your authenticator or mobile number. If you don’t have access to your 2FA device, contact our support.
Once logged in, you’ll see a screen inviting you to create a new WordPress.com site or add a self-hosted site. You can choose either of those actions, or if you’d like to use the app without sites, you can use the WordPress.com Reader.
If you don’t have a site or account:
- Open the Jetpack app and click the Continue With WordPress.com button at the bottom of the login screen to register a new WordPress.com account and website. (If you don’t see the button, try hiding your keyboard.)
- Alternatively, you can sign up in a web browser at WordPress.com/start. After registering, log in to your new account on the Jetpack app’s login screen.
Once logged in, go to My Account → Account Settings. At the top of this screen, you’ll see the WordPress.com account currently linked to the app, including your username and email.
You can use the Jetpack app to manage both free WordPress.com sites and self-hosted WordPress sites. You don’t need to pay to get started — WordPress.com offers a free plan, and the WordPress software for self-hosted sites is also free. Jetpack also offers optional paid plans that unlock additional features like backups, security scans, and priority support.
How do you add multiple sites to the Jetpack app?
Sites Hosted On WordPress.com:
- If you have multiple WordPress.com sites under one account, they will all automatically appear once you log into the app using your WordPress.com login credentials.
Self-Hosted Sites:
- After logging in to the Jetpack App, go to the My Site option at the bottom left corner of the screen.
- At the top of the screen, tap the down arrow (v) on the right of the site address and click the
+icon/button. - Enter the site URL, WP Admin username/email address, and password for the new site.
When adding additional self-hosted sites, the Jetpack App will create an Application Password. Application Passwords are a more secure way for the app to access your site content without using your actual account and password.
You can view and manage these passwords in your user profile within your site’s WP Admin at:
https://yourjetpack.blog/wp-admin/profile.php
Revoking application passwords used by the app will terminate the app’s access to your site.
How do I access my site’s dashboard?
After logging into the Jetpack app, tap My Site in the bottom menu to open your site’s dashboard.
From there, you can:
- Create and edit posts or pages
- View site stats
- Manage comments and media
- Update basic settings
- … and more.
If you need to access advanced tools, like certain plugin settings or full theme customization, these features may only be available in a browser. In that case, you can:
- Visit
yourdomain.com/wp-admin(for self-hosted sites) - Or go to wordpress.com and sign in (for Jetpack-connected or WordPress.com sites)
Can I view my site in the app?
The Jetpack mobile app is designed for managing your site, not for browsing it. While you can access your site’s dashboard, stats, and settings, the app does not provide a built-in site viewer. To visit your site, open a web browser and enter your site’s URL.
Managing and installing plugins in the Jetpack Mobile App
To manage your site’s plugins using the Jetpack Mobile app, follow these steps:
- Tap My Site and select your site from the top of the screen.
- Tap More from the menu list.
- Tap Plugins.
Once you’re there, you can:
- See all installed plugins
- Activate or deactivate plugins
- Update plugins if a new version is available
- Search and install new plugins from the WordPress.org plugin repository (use the search bar at the top)
Where to report a Jetpack app bug?
The best place to report a bug depends on which device you are using. There are different GitHub issue trackers for the Android and iOS apps:
- Report Jetpack Android App issues at WordPress Android.
- Report Jetpack iOS App issues at WordPress iOS.
Alternatively, you can contact our support team, and we can file the bug report with our developers on your behalf.
Make sure the bug is specific to the app and not the website itself. Also, make sure to provide us with as many details as possible including the app version, OS version, and a screenshot or a video of the issue.
Why can’t I see posts in the app?
If you can’t access your posts, your posts aren’t showing up, or you see errors like “The posts can’t be fetched” or “No posts found,” it’s usually because Jetpack connection to your site is affected.
To fix this, you’ll need to check your site’s connection in a browser on a computer:
- Open the Jetpack Debug Tool in a browser and enter your site’s address.
- If there’s an error, follow the recommended steps to reconnect Jetpack.
- Make sure your site is publicly accessible (not in maintenance mode or password protected).
- Confirm you’re signed into the correct WordPress.com account that’s connected to your site.
Once your connection is restored, your posts should appear in the app again.
How do I manage comments on my site?
You can control comment settings directly from the WordPress or Jetpack mobile app. To do this, go to My Site → Settings → Discussion. From there, you can allow or disable comments site-wide, close commenting on posts, enable moderation settings, and more.
Can’t log into the Jetpack app?
If you’re unable to get past the login screen, please check:
- Whether you see a specific error message.
- How you’re trying to log in (email and password or via WordPress.com access).
- If you can log in to WordPress.com in a web browser with the same account.
If you still can’t access the app, contact support and share these details so we can help faster.
