    12:30pm – 2pm

  4. Abstracting the Appview Workshop

    2pm – 4pm

    Chad Miller

Chad's workshop dives into AppViews, what they are, how they work, and the different ways to implement them. He'll explore how tools like quickslice can abstract away the complexity so you can stay focused on your Lexicons and UI/UX. We'll also look at additional tools, including Tap, AIP, Constellation, and more, covering approaches from getting started all the way to production. Bring your questions. Many answers are 'it depends', shaped by your specific product and Lexicon design.

  5. Verified Human Users, game changer in the atmosphere

    4pm – 5pm

    Jan Lindblad

Bots are swarming on most social media, and dominating in some. Social media has become asocial. How can we bring sanity and social exchange back again? W Social makes a strong bet on verified human users, meaning passport scanning in order to get a W Social account. But do we always want to know who is behind every account? We propose a model with a user information firewall. One side knows exactly who each user is, but not which social media account belongs to her. The other knows everything about the user's friends, likes and followers, but not her true identity.

Friday, March 27th: Workshops & ATScience

  3. Lunch Break (Not Catered)

    12:30pm – 1:30pm

  4. Creating the ATmosphere

    1:30pm – 4:30pm

What is AtmosphereConf? #

AtmosphereConf is the global conference for the atproto community, an open protocol powering Bluesky and 100s of other applications.

How can I contact AtmosphereConf? #

You can reach the conference producers using our contact form.

Where is the venue? #

The main venue is the AMS Student Nest, on the University of British Columbia (UBC) campus, located at:

6133 University Blvd GMap · CoMaps Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z1

How do I get from the airport? #

The Skytrain goes to and from the airport. The most direct route is to take the Canada Line (there is only one line leaving the airport) and get out at Oakridge - 41st Avenue. Cross the street and take the R4 fast bus to the end of the line UBC Bus Exchange Bay 1, and it's a 5min walk to the Gage Suites conference hotel.

How do I get around Vancouver generally? #

Vancouver's public transit is quite good. There is a fast bus to UBC along Broadway, so will take 30-40min from downtown Vancouver. Public transit is enabled with tap-to-pay that works with major credit cards, or you can buy a stored value Compass Card and use that to tap.

Uber and Lyft are both available.

What kind of restaurants are around? #

There is a dinner plans channel in Roomy which is a good place to trade restaurant tips.

// hotel & accomodation

What is the conference hotel? #

We have reserved rooms and special rates at the Gage Suites, about a 10min walk on campus to The Nest venue.

🚨🚨 Conference Hotel reserved rates are now sold out 🚨🚨

There is very limited availability of rooms at regular rates, with mostly only one bedroom + sofa bed rooms available. Check the site directly.

What are the rooms like? #

The rooms we have reserved are Signature Suites:

Premium private studio room with queen bed, fully equipped kitchen with appliances, and washroom with shower (no bathtub). Superior bathroom and kitchenette finishes. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and LCD TV. Sleeps up to two people. Suite has air conditioning during the summer months

What are the details for travel support hotel stays? #

Organizers, speakers, and other community members who are having their travel supported will all be staying at Gage Suites. As part of travel support onboarding, you'll be booked into these suites. Your name and id at the front desk is all that you will need to present.

Do you have other accomodation recommendations? #

Here is a Booking.com link sorted by distance to the conference venue.

Closer to downtown Vancouver, the Holiday Inn Vancouver-Centre is right on Broadway which has a fast bus line direct to the UBC campus.

Find others to coordinate with in the Roomy #accomodation-tips channel.

// remote attendance

Are there options for attending the conference remotely? #

Yes, you can read the initial announcement on Remote / Hybrid participation.

Go to the Remote page for the main dashboard for remote streaming & chat, plus forums and more. There is a $10USD suggested donation for remote attendees, and regardless of payment we ask that you register and accept the code of conduct.

Will the workshops be available virtually or are there any virtual workshops? #

The workshops will primarily be designed as in person workshops, with presentations and support.

We'll look at capturing video / streaming the ones that make sense, and as we confirm workshops we'll discuss with presenters how / if they are able to also include remote participants.

How can I watch the video streaming? #

Video streaming is provided by Streamplace. You can access streams in a web browser, or through the Streamplace desktop or mobile apps. Login with your Atmosphere account, and you'll be able to chat on stream.
