Inside High School Championship Rings: A Q&A with Baron®‘s Tyler Durocher

We had the opportunity to sit down with Tyler Durocher, a Championship Ring Specialist at Baron® Championship Rings and an advocate for Championship storytelling.

With this Q&A Session, our aim was to learn about his passion and the inspirations behind his work at Baron®. Tyler shared his enthusiasm for helping schools craft unique Championship Rings that are symbols of excellence.

He discussed how these rings are important because they carry the spirit of teamwork and dedication. Tyler’s commitment to ensuring that each high school ring reflects the story of the team.

Further, its members truly highlight his dedication to preserving the memories and achievements of young athletes.

Let’s take a look at what Tyler said in this Baron®‘s Q&A Session.

What excites you most about working in the high school market, and what keeps it challenging year after year?

Tyler: High school sports are all about energy, passion, and stories waiting to be told, and I get a front-row seat. The challenge? Every year brings new schedules, budgets, and personalities. Along with the occasional “RUSH” orders that we have to deal with.

Thankfully, we have such a good team behind me to make sure everything gets done smoothly and professionally.

At Baron® Championship Rings, we’re dedicated to being with you every step of the way.

From the exciting moment we begin designing your custom Championship Rings to the delivery of these unforgettable Championship Rings.

We’re honored in celebrating monumental achievements together, capturing the joy of your ring ceremony with tagged photos and stories on social media.

Can you recall a memorable high school championship moment that really stuck with you?

Tyler: While I don’t have a single Championship moment tattooed in my memory, I’ve always been drawn to the upsets.

The underdogs that nobody saw coming. There’s something magical about a team defying the odds, and it’s a reminder that sports aren’t just about stats; they’re about heart.

If you could design the ultimate “High School Championship Experience” for a team, what would it look like?

Tyler: An exhilarating event that flows seamlessly, full of passion, sportsmanship, and some unforgettable surprises!

Cap it all off with a lively post-game celebration where every player feels like a true Champion. Complete with plenty of delicious snacks to enjoy.

How do you approach building trust with schools and athletic directors, especially in competitive markets?

Tyler: Honestly, it’s about being human and making everyone feel comfortable. I show up consistently, communicate honestly, and don’t shy away from a little playful sarcasm or humour when it fits.

Additionally, responding to emails faster than Rory McIlroy’s ball speed never hurts!

We know you’re a big golf guy. If you could play 18 holes anywhere in the world, where are you teeing off and who’s in your foursome?

Tyler: I’m going to take this into two parts.

            1.  Augusta would be my dream 18 holes. It would take me 6 hours to finish because I would just get lost in the history and stop constantly to smell the Azaleas. For this round, I would have to bring my usual golfing buddies.
            2. If I were to play my local course, my dream foursome (golf-related people) would be Viktor Hovland (my favourite golfer), Tommy Fleetwood (Samm’s favourite golfer), and Robby Berger.

Baron® proudly designed Rory McIlroy’s remarkable PGA Tour Championship Ring.

Be sure to explore the compelling details and story behind this iconic piece in Baron® Blog: The First-Ever PGA Tour Championship Ring Presented to Rory Mcilroy.

            Chris Bourque

            Playmaking Legend and Three-Time Champion

The son of Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque, Chris Bourque has built his own legendary career in the AHL. Chris was drafted by the Washington Capitals in 2004 and began his professional career with the Portland Pirates.

            • Bourque claimed his first Calder Cup in 2006 as a rookie with the Hershey Bears.
            • Bourque has played more than 794 games in the regular season with Portland, Hershey, Providence, Hartford, and Bridgeport.

            Chris Bourque

AHL Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Bourque closed his speech with a heartfelt message to the next generation: work hard, be a good teammate, and respect the game. “The goals and assists are great,” he said, “but what stays with you are the memories, and the reason you end up on a stage like this is because of how you treated the guys next to you.”

He closed with sincere gratitude to the AHL, calling the honor one he will carry with him for the rest of his life.

            Alexandre Giroux

            Elite Goal Scorer

“Don’t wait for something better or to reach your goal to be happy. Enjoy the ride because it’s worth it, and be proud of who you are now.”

            Alexandre Giroux

AHL Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Giroux offered a message of gratitude and perspective, urging players to treasure every moment on the ice with their teammates, because those days, he said, should feel like the best of your life. Reflecting on his 11 seasons in the league, he acknowledged that the journey wasn’t without its challenges, but emphasized that the people you meet along the way are what carry you through the difficult times.

He closed with warm appreciation for the coaches who shaped him: Bruce Boudreau, Mark French, Todd Nelson, and John Anderson. Crediting each of them for making him not only a better player and teammate, but a better person.

            Jim Wiemer

            From Forward to Premier Defenseman

Jim Wiemer started as a left winger, then he switched to the blue line. This led to his being one of the top two-way defensemen in the AHL over a 14-year period.

            • Wiemer won the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s top defenseman in the 1985-86 season.
            • Wiemer contributed to the Calder Cup win by the Rochester Americans in 1983.

Learn more about Jim Wiemer’s AHL career.

Wiemer was visibly moved, standing among the legends of the game, reflecting on what the moment truly meant to him. He spoke simply and sincerely, saying that his love for hockey was the foundation of everything. Adding, that the game, in return, gave back more than he could have ever imagined.

Being inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame, he said, was something that meant more to him than words could express, and he closed with deep gratitude for the journey that brought him to that stage.

“One of the moments that will always stand out is winning the Calder Cup in 1983. Raising the cup with my teammates is something I’ll never forget. Not because of the trophy, but because of the journey it gave me and what a team we had. “

            • Young was awarded the “Baz” Bastien Award as the league’s outstanding goaltender and the Jack Butterfield Trophy as MVP of the Calder Cup Playoffs in the 1987-88 season.

How Women’s Sports Are Thriving Today?

The numbers tell a story. Women’s sports earned more than $1 billion in 2024, with numbers expected to climb to $2.35 billion in 2025.

An RBC data report stated that team valuations are on the rise, expected to increase from $2.6 billion to $4.3 billion in 2027.

But behind all the numbers is something far more important: passion.

Viewership of the WNBA has increased 170% in just three years. 80% of sports fans in America are now watching women’s sports.

This is no longer a trend; this is a movement.

            • The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) drew 1 million fans in its second season
            • Toronto Sceptres moved to an 8,000+ seat arena due to high demand.
            • 53% increase in U.S. women’s soccer attendance since 2019

The Rise of Girls and Women in Sport: New Leagues, New Dreams

Women’s sports dominated 2025 with major expansions, record-breaking audiences, and leadership milestones.

The WNBA is expanding to 18 teams with new franchises in Toronto and Portland, scheduled for spring 2026.

There are also planned expansions to Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia. The Connecticut Sun have relocated to Boston’s TD Garden.

            • The Northern Super League was launched in Canada in April 2025 with 14,000 fans in attendance for Vancouver’s first game.
            • Soccer is still rising in popularity with a 53% increase in U.S. women’s soccer attendance since 2019, with a record average national television audience for the NWSL championship final at 1.18 million.
            • The Professional Women’s Hockey League is expanding in its third year with Vancouver Goldeneyes and Seattle teams joining the league.

            Breaking Through in Baseball

For the 2025 season, 14 women held general manager positions across Minor League Baseball teams, indicating a changing landscape of women in professional baseball. From Katie Beekman with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to Julia McNeil with the Quad Cities River Bandits, these women oversee various aspects, including community impact and gameday experiences.

            Inspiring the Next Generation

Their advice resonates across all sports. Brooke Cooper of the Worcester Red Sox emphasized the importance of consistency: “Anyone can be great once. It takes real character to display those traits every day, especially when faced with the gruelling nature of the baseball season.”

Kristin Call of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans reminded aspiring professionals to focus on “effort and attitude. If you put in the effort and approach your work with a positive and collaborative attitude, your work will speak for itself.”

            First woman to ever umpire

In August of 2025, Jen Pawol made history as the first woman to ever umpire a regular-season MLB game since 2007. The Boston Red Sox also hosted an all-female broadcast team for a Women’s Celebration Night at Fenway Park, featuring Emma Tiedemann, Alanna Rizzo, Amy Kaplan, Anna Gregoire, Kasey Hudson, Natalie Noury, and Jenn McCaffrey.

40th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day: “Don’t be afraid to speak up; your opinion matters, and it’s important to share your ideas with your team, because you never know what can come of it.” – Julia McNeil, Quad Cities River Bandits

40 Years of Breaking Barriers and Building Champions: A Legacy Worth Celebrating

McMaster University’s Coach Theresa Burns has announced her retirement after an incredible 34 seasons with the Marauders women’s basketball team. Her extraordinary legacy:

            • 5 OUA titles
            • U SPORTS National Championship in 2019
            • an impressive 618 career wins

Coach Theresa Burns’ legendary career truly illustrates that true success lies in building pathways for the generations to come.

Baron® Championship Rings Named Official Championship Ring Partner of UC Davis Athletics

Three-Year Partnership Brings Premium Championship Recognition to the Aggies

            PRESS RELEASE

January 15, 2026, DAVIS, Calif. — Baron® Championship Rings is proud to announce a new three-year partnership with UC Davis Athletics, becoming the Official Championship Ring Partner of UC Davis Athletics.

The agreement establishes Baron® as the exclusive provider of Championship Rings for UC Davis Athletics, granting the company sole rights to use UC Davis Athletics marks on Championship Rings, Hall of Fame rings, and any varsity ring program.

“Baron® Championship Rings is incredibly proud to partner with UC Davis Athletics as their Official Championship Ring Provider.”

            Kevin Kloostra

Senior Account Executive at Baron® Championship Rings

“The Aggies have a rich tradition of excellence, and we’re honored to help commemorate the achievements of their student-athletes with rings that celebrate their hard work, dedication, and legacy. We look forward to creating meaningful pieces that will be treasured for years to come.”

As part of the partnership, Baron® will collaborate closely with Aggie programs to design and produce custom pieces that reflect the pride and tradition of UC Davis Athletics. While also providing up to five complementary Hall of Fame rings each year to recognize inductees whose achievements have shaped the legacy of Aggie Athletics.

Baron® specializes in producing customized, highly crafted rings for collegiate and professional sports programs, with a process focused on storytelling, precision, and the Championship Journey. Through this partnership, UC Davis student-athletes, coaches, and Hall of Fame honorees will have access to a collaborative design experience that highlights the values and history of Aggie Athletics.

“Partnering with Baron® Championship Rings allows us to celebrate Aggie Pride by honoring the achievements of our student-athletes, coaches, and Hall of Fame members in a truly meaningful way.”

            Dr. Heather Hunter

            Executive Director, Aggie Varsity Club

“This partnership also gives our letterwinners, past and present, the opportunity to commemorate their UC Davis student-athlete experience with a varsity ring that reflects their commitment and legacy.”

The first programs to work with Baron® under the new partnership will be men’s water polo and women’s volleyball, both of which captured Big West titles this fall. The Aggie men’s water polo team earned the Big West Tournament Championship, securing the conference crown with a dominant postseason run. At the same time, the women’s volleyball program claimed the Big West regular season title behind a historic year on the court.

Each team will collaborate with Baron® to design custom Championship Rings that reflect the unique identity of their program and celebrate the student-athletes who helped deliver conference titles to Davis.

The ring design process will highlight the journey, achievements, and traditions that define both Championship seasons, setting the standard for future Aggie programs and earning their place in UC Davis Athletics history.

            3. Willis “Kid” Oliver
            4. Andy Washington
            5. Al “Runt” Pullins

Historical Milestones: A Legacy of Barrier-Breaking Excellence

The Harlem Globetrotters’ century-long journey includes moments that transformed basketball and American culture.

            Breaking Barriers on the Court

In 1948 and 1949, the Globetrotters made history by defeating the NBA’s World Champion Minneapolis Lakers twice. These extraordinary victories clearly showcased that African-American athletes could excel at the highest professional level, significantly accelerating the integration of the NBA.

That impact became concrete in 1950 when Globetrotter Nathaniel “Sweetwater” Clifton became the first African-American player to sign an NBA contract, joining the New York Knicks. That same year, the team embarked on their first international tour, beginning their transformation into true global ambassadors.

            Ambassadors of Goodwill

Following a historic 1951 trip to Berlin, where they played before 75,000 fans at Olympic Stadium, the U.S. State Department officially named the team “Ambassadors of Extraordinary Goodwill.” This distinction has been honored by Presidents Eisenhower and Ford, among other world leaders, and remains central to the organization’s identity today.

            Legends Who Wore the Uniform

The legendary Wilt Chamberlain played a full season with the Globetrotters in 1958-59 and returned between NBA seasons throughout his career. Chamberlain himself said that some of the most pleasant days of his life were spent playing for the Harlem Globetrotters.

            The Ultimate Honor

In 2002, the Harlem Globetrotters received basketball’s highest recognition: induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. They remain the only team ever inducted as a team, in addition to 13 individual players with Globetrotter ties who have received the honor.

Harlem Globetrotters 100 Year Tour: Be Part of the Celebration

The Harlem Globetrotters launched their 100 Year Anniversary World Tour, bringing their once-in-a-century show to fans across the globe.

Crafting Legacy: Inside Baron®‘s Hockey Hall of Fame Ring Production

Baron® Championship Rings, the Official Ring Partner of the Hockey Hall of Fame, recently opened its doors to highlight the meticulous artistry behind these symbols of hockey greatness.

Madison Heatherington of Propel Marketing, commissioned by Baron® as the host of the HHOF event, toured the company’s headquarters alongside CEO Peter Kanis, witnessing firsthand how raw materials become timeless markers of achievement.

The Championship Ring production journey mirrors an elite athlete’s path. Beginning with gold and diamonds, every ring progresses through multiple stages: from initial design, drafting, and casting to the precision hand-setting of each stone by Baron®‘s skilled craftspeople.

A dedicated quality-control team reviews every detail to ensure each inductee receives a ring worthy of their Hall of Fame legacy.

“Just like an athlete’s career, there are a lot of factors involved, like putting in hours of practice and grinding through tough training.”

            Peter Kanis

            CEO

“You start with raw elements: gold and diamonds. Similarly, athletes have their own raw skill sets, along with their drive and motivation. Eventually, that raw passion and skill meet development, allowing them to become great players.”

For Peter and the Baron® team, creating these rings represents more than just craftsmanship; it is about honouring athletic achievement.

“Anytime we have the honour and privilege to see them wear our ring, it feels like a token of their career. It’s almost like an encore; it symbolizes their accomplishments.”

The 2024 inductees expressed their excitement about receiving their Hall of Fame rings.

            • Zdeno Chara mentioned that his sons would likely have the best reaction and revealed that he would engrave the word “Will” inside his ring, a testament to the determination that defined his legendary career.
            • Jennifer Botterill reflected on how this honour connected to her parents’ unwavering support, crediting them for encouraging her to believe in herself and pursue her Olympic dreams.

Baron®‘s Snap & Reveal: A New Dimension in Ring Customization

Baron® Championship Rings unveiled an innovative design feature in 2025 that revolutionizes ring personalization: the Snap & Reveal.

This groundbreaking multi-piece ring design incorporates a magnetic snap-and-release top, creating two additional customizable areas beyond traditional engraving options.

            • With a simple snap, the Championship Ring top detaches to unveil a hidden compartment beneath, perfect for engraving personal messages, significant dates, or team mottos that hold special meaning.
            • The removable top then reveals a stunning stadium field design complete with the team’s logo displayed prominently at center field, a powerful symbol of the team’s legacy and the unwavering support of its fans.
            • This innovative feature transforms the Championship Ring from a single-surface keepsake into a multi-layered storytelling piece, allowing teams and athletes to celebrate their journey with unprecedented depth and creativity.

The Snap & Reveal gives Champions new ways to honour their achievements, commemorate pivotal moments, and preserve memories that extend far beyond the final score.
