Join us for a 2-day hackathon that dives deep into the fascinating world of bioinformatics! BioHacks offers an immersive platform for students to unleash their creativity and technical skills in both a collaborative and competitive environment.

Some of BioHacks’ highlights include interactive workshops, speakers, networking and opportunities, and contributing to a difference.

  • Interactive Workshops: These workshops are designed to equip and assist participants with their projects throughout the event. They also build upon possible future career paths and opportunities.

  • Speakers: Mircea Teodorescu, Benedict Paten

  • Networking Opportunities: Be able to connect with like-minded peers, researchers, and potential mentors through workshops and speaker events.

  • Contributing to a Difference: Through your projects and engagement, you will have the opportunity to contribute to real-world challenges in the field of bioinformatics. BioHacks will allow you to make a difference and find solutions to societal issues.

Requirements

  1. Bioethics, Equity, Justice Track

Description:  Tackle issues corresponding to ethical, social, and legal issues in the field of bioinformatics. Explore how bioinformatics can be used to explore the area of equity and justice in healthcare. Project ideas include developing tools that can identify disparities in topics like health care access, diagnosis, treatment.  ( ex: AI bias in biomedical research, genetic privacy, clinical trial ethics)

  1. Cancer Applications in Genomics

Description: Delve into the field of oncology and computational biology to better understand more about cancer. Through this track, participants will explore the realm of cancer biology through cancer mechanisms, progression, tumor behavior, and treatment responses. Project ideas can range but should focus on cancer.

  1. AI Applications in Biomedical Research

Description: AI is transforming the field of biomedical research in recent years. Explore the realm of how AI can be more transformative in the field of biomedical research and genomics. ( ex: usage of AI for precision medicine, gaining information on genetic data, etc.)

  1. Sustainability

Description:  Environmentalism including sustainable agriculture biotechnology, invasive species management, and antibiotic resistance bacteria prevention.

  1. Neuroscience Research Applications

Description: Explore the field of neuroscience and potential technological tools to advance in the field of neuroscience for cures, accurate diagnosis predictions for neurodegenerative diseases. ( ex. A tool used to better predict likelihood of Alizhemer’s disease in a patient based on symptoms)
