Recapping Post Leaders Workshop
The 2018 Post Leaders Workshop was held Aug. 19-21 in Bonita Springs, Fla. This year's workshop welcomed more than 160 participants from over 75 Posts and all 17 Regions.
Attendees engaged with SAME national leaders and staff; gained insights on association management from Mark Levin, an expert in nonprofit training; participated in team building activities; heard from fellow Society members who are leaders in areas such as STEM outreach, veteran transition support, international involvment; and leader development; and were provided details on numerous types of opportunities where members can be more active as we push towards SAME's Centennial.
Be sure to ask those who attended from your Post to give you all the details on how you can be a part of the Run to 2020 & Beyond!

Owners Forum Looks at Project Delivery
This spring, SAME and DBIA held the third annual Federal Owners Forum on project delivery, with 22 representatives from 13 agencies participating: Architect of the Capitol; Department of Veterans Affairs; Department of Transportation; Federal Bureau of Investigation; Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers; National Aeronautics & Space Administration; General Services Administration; Naval Facilities Engineering Command; National Security Agency; U.S. Air Force; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; U.S. Coast Guard; and U.S. Customs & Border Protection
The "Federal Owners Forum Report" is now available online.
Breakout sessions covered the Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System; project risk areas; and challenges in government agencies attracting/retaining talent. Additionally, there was a presentation from two researchers involved in the 2015 study "Maximizing Success in Integrated Projects: An Owners’ Guide," which was published by The Charles Pankow Foundation and the Construction Industry Institute.
Following the presentation, participants then broke into small groups for discussions on project success. The groups each used a different sample project to simulate the types of decision-making involved when choosing either design-build or design-bid-build, and the challenges that might occur with both.
