 FEATURED EVENT

#SAMESBC18 Sets Attendance Record

A combined 4,125 people attended the co-located 2018 SAME Federal Small Business Conference for the A/E/C Industry and Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Veterans Small Business Construction-Targeted Industry Engagement, which were held Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in New Orleans, La.

The record attendance to SBC alone (over 3,250) capped the fifth straight year the event has grown—from 1,653 attendees in 2013 to 2,067 in 2015 to 2,582 last year.

The 97 percent growth of SBC since 2013 underscores the equal value that the conference aspires to bring to both government and industry attendees. It is not just about providing opportunities for companies to network with decision-makers from the federal government; and it’s not just about creating a forum where agencies can inform the private sector about where it will need contracting support in the years to come. SBC is about creating mutually beneficial opportunities to conduct valuable market research.

Awards & Medals Nominations Open Dec. 1

It is that time to nominate individuals and organizations for SAME's annual awards and medals. The awards nomination process opens on Dec. 3, 2018; the deadline is Feb. 1, 2019.

Each year, the Society recognizes Sustaining Member companies as well as individual members from the public and private sector for excellence and dedication in engineering, architecture, education, leadership, STEM outreach, and industry-government collaboration.

To view awards criteria and to submit a nomination, visit www.same.org/awards.

Nominations for Elected Director Due Dec. 15

As SAME approaches its Centennial in 2020, it is important to find engaged members who have a broad range of Society experiences and a strong foundation of Post-level achievement to serve as National Officers and Elected Directors on the Board of Direction.

The deadline to nominate an Elected Director candidate has been extended until Dec. 15, 2018. Elected Directors serve three-year terms, and often get an opportunity to participate in and lead task forces and work groups identified as key strategic areas.

Nominations for National Officer (Vice President/President-Elect) are due Dec. 1, 2018.

Nominations must be made at www.same.org/leadershipnominations. Respective nominating committees will determine the candidates who will be voted on by the entire membership during online elections, which be held from March 1 through April 15, 2019.

2019 JETC Call for Presentations Closes Dec. 10

The Call for Presentations for the 2019 Joint Engineer Training Conference in Tampa, Fla., is open. The deadline to submit a presentation for consideration is Dec. 10, 2018.

The 2019 JETC will be held May 7-9 at the Tampa Convention Center. More than 1,700 professionals from across the A/E/C industry and the joint engineering community will be on hand for three days of education and training, as well as celebrating the work of SAME's Posts and members—as JETC is also the Society's Annual Meeting.

Submissions are welcomed in one of seven topical presentation tracks: Architecture & Engineering | Energy & Sustainability | Environmental | Facility Management | Business & Leadership | Joint Engineering | Resilience & National Security.

For more information on JETC and to submit a presentation, visit www.samejetc.org.

Apply for Leader Development Program by Dec. 21

SAME has established a new national Leader Development Program that will work to identify and cultivate leadership from within SAME's membership to help fill a vital training gap in our industry, deliver value to Sustaining Members and Posts, and ensure strong leadership for the future of the nation.

Applications for the first class are open until Dec. 21, 2018.

The program, which is being supported by the SAME Foundation, is for a one-year period. The inaugural class will begin at the 2019 JETC in Tampa, Fla. (May 7-9) and include 17 members (one from each SAME region), with expectations to grow the program in future years. The target participant is an enthusiastic, mid-career professional who is dedicated to SAME and who exhibits the talents and capabilities to be a leader.

Interested in applying? Learn more about the program and the application process.
