In Case You Missed It

SAME, We're Just Getting Started!

We have been formulating plans over the last couple weeks for what will be the very first meeting of the SAME National Leadership Assembly (NLA) in November.

The preparations we've been going through have me motivated for where we are headed. Thanks to the tremendous work of an amazing group of volunteers, the NLA is poised to set a new standard for how SAME gathers ideas and inspiration from the members. The NLA will be encouraged to listen to those they represent, whether Posts/Regions, C3s or other national programs, and then present issues or opportunities that warrant broader awareness and discussion.

While there will be some evolution of the NLA as it goes forward, the future of SAME is moving in a great direction. The upcoming Indo-Pacific Regional Summit in Hawaii (Sept. 8-10), the highly successful Post Leaders Workshop earlier this month, and the conclusion of another stellar SAME camps season, are just three of many examples that underscore how we are Driving Partnerships, Delivering Solutions, and Developing People. And if you haven't seen the recently published 2024 SAME Annual Report, check it out and see many, many, many more: our strength truly is our people.

Serve to Inspire!

  FROM THE HISTORY VAULT

From 2015: TME Looks Back 10 Years on Katrina

It has been 20 years since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in August 2005. The response, recovery, and rebuild was historic. The engineering community rose to the occasion in the aftermath and over the ensuing decade-plus as record risk-reduction infrastructure investments were made in the city. TME covered many of the engineering projects over the years, with articles written by those directly involved; these are all available for free to SAME members in the TME Archives.

Let us remember the impact of Katrina on our nation, those whose lives were lost and affected, and how our A/E/C profession came together in the days, weeks, months, and years afterward.

Visit the TME Archives, and explore over a century of SAME and military engineering, including coverage around Hurricane Katrina. Free access is open to SAME members.
