ThreadRacer
ThreadRacer is a free lightweight Windows benchmarking tool that measures the relative performance of individual CPU cores. Modern processors don’t always deliver uniform performance across all cores. Some may be faster due to chip architecture, silicon quality, thermal conditions, or power delivery. ThreadRacer helps you identify which cores are your strongest performers, giving you valuable insight for optimizing workloads.
This is especially useful on processors with hybrid architectures that mix performance and efficiency cores, or when evaluating the impact of Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) on AMD and Hyper-Threading (HT) on Intel. These technologies boost throughput by allowing two logical threads to share execution units within a single physical core, but that shared access can sometimes hinder performance for demanding tasks. In such cases, disabling SMT or HT, either system-wide or on a per-process basis using a tool like Process Lasso, ensures threads run exclusively on dedicated physical cores. Process Lasso can also assign processes to specific CPU cores, letting you direct critical workloads to your highest-performing cores as identified by ThreadRacer.
Whether you’re fine-tuning thread affinity, comparing core-to-core performance, or deciding whether SMT/HT helps or hurts a particular workload, ThreadRacer gives you the data to make informed decisions.
ThreadRacer is included with Process Lasso. You’ll find it in the ‘Options > Tools‘ submenu. However, a standalone build can be downloaded on this page.
Note that ThreadRacer was refactored in March 2026 and the new version is currently only available in the Process Lasso v18 beta.
