Millo Martin’s path with Bouchier is a testament to perseverance, commitment, and the value of forging one’s own way. A proud member of the K’ómoks (Comox) First Nation on Vancouver Island, Millo grew up surrounded by a family heritage deeply rooted in logging—his father and grandfather both worked in the industry. Witnessing the challenges and seasonal uncertainty that came with logging, Millo knew he wanted to pursue a different direction. In 2011, driven by a desire to build a stable and rewarding future, Millo chose to enter the plumbing trade, completing his pre-apprenticeship. Although life took him away from the trade for a while, the call to return and finish what he started never faded. He recognized plumbing as a solid, recession-resistant career and wanted to see his ambitions through.

On January 6, 2021, Millo began his journey with Bouchier’s projects team as a first-year plumbing apprentice. Even though nearly a decade had passed since his pre-apprenticeship, Millo was determined to accumulate the hands-on experience needed to advance. His motivation was clear—he wanted to complete his trade and establish a lasting career.

At Bouchier, Millo found more than just a job. The company offered him the opportunity to achieve the work-life balance he’d been seeking, and a culture where growth and learning were encouraged. With steady support and his own dedication, Millo diligently gained the experience and hours required for his advancement. His commitment paid off: Millo has now earned his Red Seal journeyman ticket as a plumber, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey.

Millo’s story is a powerful reminder that with resilience and determination, it’s possible to honour one’s roots while building a new legacy.

When Brett Young moved to Fort McMurray in 2022, he didn’t know much about our region or the Alberta Oil Sands. What he did know was that he was ready to work hard and take on something new.

His first opportunity came with Bouchier, joining as a Labourer at Suncor Base Plant. It wasn’t long before his strong work ethic and curiosity stood out. Brett moved quickly into an Operator role, learning to handle everything from the skid steer and loader to the grader, dozer, and excavator. “The leaders on site saw my potential and gave me every opportunity to challenge myself,” he said.

Of course, growth came with a few bumps along the way. “I still hold the record for the longest ripper mark while training on the grader,” Brett laughed. “At first, I hated it, but over time and with great mentorship, it became my favourite piece of equipment.”

That same drive to learn opened new doors—this time into safety. Today, Brett is an HSE Specialist supporting the Suncor Baseplant site, a role he takes great pride in. “Bouchier gave me the chance to build a foundation, develop my skills, and keep pushing myself. It’s a big family here, and there’s always something new to learn.”

From new beginnings to new responsibilities, Brett’s journey shows how hard work, humility, and curiosity can lead to incredible growth at Bouchier.

Rob Hemsworth’s career is a testament to hard work, persistence, and the power of continuous growth. Before joining Bouchier, Rob began his career as a labourer and later moved into operating equipment at Suncor Mackay River. In 2017, when Bouchier took over the Mackay River contract, Rob was offered the role within our team of Foreman. From there, his leadership skills and dedication quickly set him apart, and he went on to serve as General Foreman at Mackay River for eight years. Earlier this year, in March 2025, Rob embraced a new challenge and was appointed Site Manager at CNRL Horizon R&G’s.

Throughout his journey, Rob has had the support of leaders and mentors who recognized his potential and encouraged his development. From taking part in Bouchier’s first intake of Franklin Covey leadership training, to receiving guidance and mentorship from senior leaders such as Jon Close, Rob is grateful for the investment Bouchier has made in his leadership journey. “I’ve had leaders who truly cared about my growth, mentoring me in all aspects of the business to help me understand what it means to be a leader. I am truly grateful for these mentors and all they have taught me throughout the years,” he shares.

Like many leaders, Rob has faced challenges along the way. But he sees them as opportunities. “Challenges are opportunities to better yourself. Sometimes it may not feel like it in the moment, but it is invaluable experience,” Rob says. By staying positive, seeking help when needed, and not reacting emotionally, he has built resilience and strength as a leader.
When asked what advice he would give to others looking to grow within the company, Rob emphasizes values that resonate across Bouchier:

“Be a positive team member. Contribute to the safety culture. Lead by example. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Respect and value your co-workers. Take pride in your work and be reliable.”

Rob’s journey reflects the best of Bouchier’s culture; where hard work, mentorship, and opportunity combine to help people grow into strong leaders. Congratulations, Rob, on your well-earned success.

Francis (Frankie) Hynes is a quiet force behind the success of many new team members at Albian GSS R&G. As a Trainer in our Training Department, he leads with purpose – bringing a steady, supportive presence and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed. Known for his thoughtful approach and willingness to go the extra mile, Frankie has helped raise the standard for what effective, people-first training looks like at Bouchier.

Frankie joined Bouchier in 2019 as a Heavy Equipment Operator, bringing with him experience from a previous training background. Within a year and a half, his passion for supporting others was recognized, and he was invited to pursue a role in training as a coach.

“My growth here has been amazing,” Frankie reflects. “I’ve learned a lot of new things since starting, and the training team has come a long way since then. I’m fortunate to work with peers and managers who always support the questions I have and the ideas I bring forward.”

Like any journey worth taking, Frankie knew joining the Training Department would be a new challenge. But instead of stepping back and waiting, he leaned in and started leading the path forward.

“I wanted to help make things better for the new employees coming in. I spoke up and let people know that I’d like to be a coach, and they listened. That really set things in motion.”
His determination helped strengthen the department and created a more welcoming and structured training environment for others. Through consistency, honesty, and a positive attitude, Frankie became a reliable and respected presence on the team.

“Frankie truly exemplifies what it means to be a Trainer. His approach to training delivery is both thoughtful and effective, drawing on deep knowledge and hands-on expertise to create impactful learning experiences. Coupled with his strong competency in administrative tasks and computer-based work, Frankie consistently demonstrates the qualities of a well-rounded, highly professional trainer.

His journey at Bouchier (from operator to coach to trainer) not only speaks to his personal growth and dedication, but also reflects the very essence of our Grow Our Own strategy. This natural step progression is exactly what we strive to foster and is a strong example of the development path we aim to make possible for all team members.”
– Chris Patterson, Manager, Training Department

When asked what advice he’d give to others looking to grow within the company, Frankie shares, “Stay true to yourself. Be honest with everyone and work hard for what you want in life—everything is possible. Having the right mindset and attitude toward others is so important. Without those things, it’s hard to get anywhere in life.”
Congratulations, Frankie, on your years of service and a career that continues to inspire growth, teamwork, and a strong sense of purpose.

In 2014, Raskto Korac joined Bouchier at Suncor Firebag. Since then, his career has been a testament to hard work, adaptability, and the power of mentorship.

Starting as a labourer, Raskto was quick to embrace new learning opportunities. Over the years, he developed his skills in equipment operation and, in 2024, stepped into a new role as an HSE Specialist. Reflecting on his career growth, he acknowledges the strong mentorship he has received along the way.

“There have been so many leaders who took the time to direct my development,” Raskto shares. “Having leaders that care about their workers and are able to support their development is key.”

Transitioning into his HSE role came with its challenges, particularly adjusting to a new worksite and a division with a different scope. However, he credits the support of his leadership team for making the shift a successful one. “The transition from operations into HSE on a new site was a big change. However, I was able to make the change thanks to a leadership team that was as invested in my success as I was.”

For those looking to grow within Bouchier, Raskto offers some valuable advice: “Reach out to your leaders on site and have a conversation with them about your goals. Ask them what they’d like to see from you in order to support your growth within the company. Be open to different opportunities, whether it’s an opportunity on a different site or a role you might not have seen yourself in.”

Raskto’s journey exemplifies how dedication, mentorship, and a willingness to embrace new challenges can pave the way for career advancement at Bouchier. His story serves as an inspiration for anyone looking to grow within the company and take their career to the next level.

Keep up the great work, Raskto!
